    • @hollowgroundproductions

      Sorry dude. I breezed passed a crucial step in the video. at 1:58, when you see the Wavetable, at the bottom right of the instrument, you see "Unison", and you can change the "Voices" and "Amount". Choose "Classic" as a Unison option, then select "4" voices and around "50%" amount. This will widen the sound!

    Hi, i just started watching and i'm wondering : What's the point of sidechaining your snare to the kick?

    • @hollowgroundproductions
      @hollowgroundproductions  Рік тому

      Because its lo-fi, i wanted to maximise the distortion and crunch on the impact of the snare, so step 1 is to sidechain it so the kick is distorting the top of the snare, and step 2 is to group the kick and the snare together and drive the saturator over both. The results are more lo fi. But other than this genre, Since making this video, I've honestly changed my routine on snares. Sidechain compression usually takes place when the kick and snare don't sit we'll together, in which case it makes more sense to change the samples.

    This is totally great man, I just have a question about the pad you made in wavetable. When you say LFO on the pitch, when I do this I just hear it pitching up and down dramatically, even though it's only set to 3.5, whereas yours didn't do that at all. I can't see why it's doing that compared to yours. Sorry, I'm a noob

    Hey, mate, great tutorial!
    I would have few questions, please.
    01) In regards to the clap, could you please explain why would you sidechain it to the kick? For house, clap would there be anyway on the 2s and 4s kicks so you can just balance it, instead of using sidechain. Could you please advise if I'm missing something here? Also, in the video, sidechain doesn't seem to work.
    02) Also, could you please advise if there is a reason for having the compression from the clap in a group? I can't see any mapped macro in there. :)
    03) Regarding to creating chords, do you try and experiment to come up with the cords? Or are you counting on music theory knowledge?
    04) Are all bass notes on offbeat?
    05) Do you tune the vox by ear or are you using some special plugin for that? :)
    07) Do you always start the arrangement from the session view?
    Haaa, you sampled Seinfeld! The TV show, not the DJ. :)) Love it.
    Btw, love your minimalistic way of working, didn't saw any third party plugin in there. I think I have too many of those! :))
    And the track is a serious gem!
    Sorry for all the questions and long comment. :)
    Thank you! :)

    • @hollowgroundproductions
      @hollowgroundproductions  2 роки тому +9

      Damn, this guy is engaged for real!
      Ok, so in brief.
      01) The few clips in the video where the sidechain is not activated are a result of the editing of the video, some cutaways that were done out of sequence before I activated the sidechain properly, which in truth I did afterwards. And the precision with which you sidechain your clap to the kick depends on the genre. If i were working in Commercial Tech House, i would spend more time getting the levels right to avoid unnecessary distortion. Less necessary for the grimy aesthetic of LoFi House.
      02) It's just a "Sidechain" audio rack I have in my presets which i threw in after the other plug-ins
      03) Some of the notes are on the 1, and therefore hit with the kick
      04) A bit of sarcasm in the video at that point. It is a chord that I have used before, and its a Minor 9 chord, Dm9 to Am9. In future videos I will cover chord theory and midi chord presets.
      05) Vox tuned by ear, but it is possible to use spectrum analyser to help, no special plug-in that I am aware of...but these things ultimately come down to tuning your ear to what works in the mix
      06) no question - no answer, my good man!!
      07) If my track is dependant on loops, or if i'm planning a live set of launchable clips, or for illustration purposes, I rely on session view in the beginning. Otherwise, for my own purposes, I will often begin in arrangement.
      Hope that helps!

    • @adrianconsta1139
      @adrianconsta1139 2 роки тому +2

      @@hollowgroundproductions Cool, thank you a lot for taking the time to answer my questions. There is a lot of good information here.
      For samples tuning I'm using Mixed in Key Studio Edition.
      Still, there would be a much cheaper plugin, HoRNet's SongKey, which just released their 4th's version. Haven't tested it yet tho.
      Exicited about the new episodes, thank you! :)
