LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! My jumpers live in containers that cheesy poofs came in. A tiny side note, if getting sticks from outside, either put them in the oven at a low temp for 15mins or so or boil them to kill any pests that can harm your spiders. They are susceptible to parasites. 💜 THANK YOU, KAT!
You should get one! They are adorable and fun little creatures. The best part about having them is that they actually look like they're studying you with their huge eyes.
And they’re probably the easiest spider I’ve ever kept in my life and one of the most adorable too, they’re so much more interactive and enjoyable than most tarantulas (pet rocks) 😂
Yes! Do it! I have four at the moment, and they are all amazing. I would recommend Clint's Reptiles's jumping spider video as well as Snake Discovery's, as they really helped me.
Never kept jumping spiders before. Found this video very interesting. I had 82 Tarantulas during my life, but the lady I'm with now, she and her son are afraid of Spiders, so I don't keep them anymore. But I still love 💞 Spiders and I like very much what you've created for your Arachnid family! It's Beautiful ❤️!
I can empathize with your situation. My wife tolerated my spider hobby years ago, and snakes, and lizards, etc, etc. But, she has said not again! However, I am yet thinking a jumping spider is so cute and small and easy to care for, maybe....
Doing dishes, I saw a small jumping spider exploring around my kitchen sink. I collected it and proceeded to free it outside. It wouldn't leave. It seemed to like the Tupperware container it was in. So I decided to keep him or her as a companion. This will be a first for me, and THANKS for all your informative videos.
Literally was planning to rehouse my 2 jumpers and then BAM you come through! I will be using enclosures I already have but I need decor! Love pet store trips!
These are wonderful DYI options. Beautifully done. Bravo. You probably know this by now but jumping spiders should have enclosures that open either from the side or the bottom, since they spin their hammocks in the tops of their enclosures. These 3 enclosures would all still work though. You would just invert them, putting the substrate in the lid 😊. Great video, just found your channel. You're so enjoyable to watch. 💖
I found your channel through this video. I had a bold jumping spider on my ceiling, in the middle of winter in VT. I was searching care/enclosure videos and planned on trying to care for it over winter. Well, I never found him again, but it’s only been about a month. However, I’ve now binge watched a lot of your videos and just ordered my first two curly hair slings from Fear Not Tarantulas! Thank you for all of your helpful videos and positivity! I am excited for my first venture into the hobby. 🙏🏻🕸❤️
I have 8 jumping spiders and 5's now. The new ways of housing the jumping spiders, was certainly showing I have done my enclosures correct. Thank you for the extra tips.
I have arachnophobia, but I find jumping spiders adorable and I hope I can have one as a pet sometime soon :D My younger sibling had a pet tarantula, I thought he was adorable but I wouldn’t hold him because I was scared that the feeling of him crawling on me would freak me out and I would throw him (which I wouldn’t do intentionally, I loved the little guy). But he sadly passed away one day and we don’t know why. My dad thinks he was unable to shed/molt and that killed him. He only was able to molt once I think and my sibling has his molt in a bag somewhere
Oh! And misting their enclosures ensures a healthy molt. I live in the Midwest. I put them near 2 salt lamps I have to keep them warm. Using heat lamps or pads can kill them so be very careful.
Really great idea with gluing cork bark to the sides to make ledges! They really like that! I also appreciate your advocating bigger enclosures even though they're little :) There are so many containers that work for them. Particularly like fresh food or drink containers. I've used some fruit containers from the grocery store. I usually pick something rectangular because then I can turn it on its side and have the lid on the side. Just as a suggestion, you can also get nylons from the dollar store and cut a piece to put over the lid instead of using the actual lid for more ventilation. Or you can drill lid holes. I've been finding more vent is always better. I drill holes with a hand-crank drill because I'm weird and don't like power tools. I have more control, but it does take longer. If it's soft thin plastic you can get away with using a push-pin/tack. I have a heavy duty paper awl which works well (pointy needle on a handle.) I also suggest putting some more leaves in. They seem to really like sitting on them and will often use them for a hammock. If you have some clutter near the top, they're less likely to hammock near the lid. If I put some fake flower near the top, they almost always nest in them. Some of your spiders seemed like they'd be willing to climb on your hand if you gave them some time to think about it :)
I loveJumping Spiders. They have lots of personality and their friendly. So today I'm in my kitchen and 1 tiny baby dot repels down from the ceiling! I look up and I see these dots all over the ceiling. Hmm I don't think I want that many pets. But it's been 100° out so okay for a while. There's a big one that hangs out and sits on my arm when I'm in the front yard looks like Kate's black one with the white,And green fangs.😊
I made the teddy bear jar habitat last night and I just wanted to say thank you because it is sooooo cute! I wish I could share a picture because I just love it so much!

I have a purple passion vine that I'm going to place in my Caribena versicolor's final enclosure. It's growing fast, only a couple months ago it was about the same size as yours. Now I'd say it's about 20 inches tall. I'm going to allow it to continue growing, so that I can drape it around the enclosure as my Caribena versicolor also continues to grow ( a sling that I got at the beginning of June).
i just got into keeping jumping spiders. I did it to help my kids with their fear of bugs. Its been great so far. I caught 2 in my garden. Made enclosures with debris from the forest behind our house.
So happy to be seeing one of your vids early before my sister spoils it ! Im planning to get my first jumper after winter , thank you so much for being such an educational channel.
As someone who has grown up into my 30s scared of spiders I love all of these vids as it’s making me calmer at the sight of spiders in my home, now the only thing that i have gritted teeth for in each video is the random but teeth grind “and you want to be” part lol
I couldn’t stand to even look at photos of spiders but after watching hours of your content, I’m starting to find them fascinating. In the coming year if my interest is persistent, I might even start keeping some.
I'm so glad I seen this. I was terrified by spiders and I forced myself to watch your videos and I've now decided I would really like some jumping spiders.
awesome!! i always see people use those REALLY tiny enclosures (like the ones they were being kept in temporarily) and i always thought that was way too small for a jumping spider… these are so nice!! i’m very excited for a jumping spider!! my mom also loves them so i hope she won’t be too upset at me taking care of them LOL
beautiful jumping spiders and beautiful enclosures! purple passion plant is amazing and grows fast if it has enough sunlight💜 mine also bloomed these orange poof like flowers that were sooo cute this past summer, I was completely shocked!
Omggg I getting my first spider is really tiny and I got all the materials to the set up tomorrow.I want to make it comfy and beautiful as yours, omg I would live happily in one of those enclosures
I still stand by my velvet spider comment, but gosh darnit these guys are so cute! Also, I will be making a bunch of enclosures soon, so thank you for the info!
A way I've found to drill plastic is a step bit for a drill. Their cheap, easy to find, and make various size holes without cracking. Hope this helps someone 😄
I've always been afraid of spiders until I saw a video of you with your jumping spiders. Now I'm in love! 🥰🥰 I just came across this video and had to share with you. I'm in love with this little girl ❤❤
One of the best informative video's for the setting up of a jumping Spider, thanks so much for the information and the ideas! Loved the Idea of gluing the cork on the insides! Because of you, I've just purchased a male and female pair. And I've subscribed to your channel. Best wishes, Andrew, Wales. UK.
To avoid cracking the plastic with a drill. Try out various drill bits - it'll usually be one of the smallest ones that'll have a very sharp tip. I think it's my 0,5mm micro drill that's perfect for the job. Make initial holes with it and then switch to a larger bit. If your aim is not much larger holes then you can switch to the right size immediately. Like going from 0,5 to 2mm. If you want larger holes then you'll likely need a mid-step drill bit.
They are just too cute for words! I don't know if this would be helpful for you but, I use my soldering iron at the stove with overhead exhaust fan on, so no stinky fumes. I am cautious about fumes because of my parrots.
This video was how I came across your channel and I first looked up on UA-cam on how to make a DIY jumping spider enclosure and that was how I found your channel and then I started liking velvet spiders and then tarantulas and now I’m just an aracnophile.😅❤
These jumping spider are so beautiful and I love their enclosures. Spiders so give me then heebyjeebys but I think I would love to keep a jumping spider.
Do you have any videos on beginning to keep jumping spiders? Like some good sources to purchase them from, the best housing for them, the best things to feed them, which of the larger species are good for handling, and so on?
I live with the fear of spiders sutch as tarantulas and black widow. I can't see clips, documents on tv on black widow or see pictures but these jumping spiders is just so darn cute 🥰 I don't know how many clips I'v seen by now with jumping spiders and its so cute what they can be "trained" to do 🙂
In the process now on deciding my 1st enclosure. Liking the Microhabitat To start, especially with the front opening door. Also Kind of wanting that exo terra too for when my Spood Matures. Have another exo for my lizard and nothing beats having front opening doors. Shall start searching for Alternatives.
thank you! my school has a whole bunch of habronattus pyrrithrix and habronattus californicus and one of my teachers asked if i can do anything about it,so of course i wanted to care for them. i know h. californicus do eat pyrrithrix so im making 2 containers. those things are so god damn tiny i love them
I have a huge fear of spiders but I'm considering getting one. Ik that it could help me get over that fear and also jumping spiders are so cute. I love these videos.
Good thing to note is if you pick up sticks from outside you’ll want to bake them in the oven for some time to kill any bacteria and pests that come with it. That way you keep your spider safe.
Ok I new and been. Doing a lot of research. I’ve read that top opening enclosures aren’t the best bc jumpers will build their best at the top. Did that happen to you? How did you work around it
it's my pleasure!! I also have a channel, it's called Skyla Studioz. Check it out if ur interested, I only have 3 vids up atm, working on more, really trying to get this channel going. Hope you check it out, if u do I sincerely hope you enjoy, I want to eventually get a jumping spider & feature it. I don't have any spiders yet... I actually grew up arachnophobic lol. Ironically now I think they're so cool!!
I love jumping spiders. I found one last summer on the sliding door. I was amazed but I didn't know that it was one before i looked it up. I pretty sure that it was a bold jumping spider.
The mesh ventilation is cool. My enclosure are made from two round plastic clear trifle containers put together to make a ball, with a flat top an bottom. In the top half/half, i cut two holes about 5cm wide. At my local Asda i found these deserts that come in two tiny cool clear glass cappucino looking cups, and the have these clear plastic lids which i cut holes in. I then take a face mask. Ya know the blue and white medical ones. And separate the layers. I then cut circles out and glue a layer of face mask over the hole in the cappucino pudding cup lids. The lids then fit perfectly into the holes i cut on the bowl. The one on the side is permanant, and the one on the top is removable. I actually have a fruit fly trap, and i have a mini milk bottle with a cappacino pudding cup lid on the neck. I open the trap (outside, cuz these are flying fruit flies) and place my mini milk bottle upisde down on top of the trap. Wait for some flies to crawl or fly in. I then remove the top filter on the enclosure, and because of the capacino lid being o the milk bottle, i can sit it i the filter hole, and just leave it be for as long as it takes the flies to leave. Its kinda cool when u make something by hand, and see all these random things come together. Im actually an arachnaphobe, and i have 4 jumping spiders in 3 terrariums. I have two female zebras in one called Gwen, and Stacey. a fleecy jumper called Pheobe (who just had babies) in another, and a male zebra called Gary. I've yet to be brave enough to touch them, and them to touch me. But i'm hoping to keep at least one of the babies, so we can both get used to each other. I have always hated this irrational fear of spiders. And thought these guys would help. I dont think i could handle american jumping spiders. Those ones there look huge. I think uk ones only get to about 1 centimetre in length. Or at least not much bigger than that. Anyway yeah, ive never seen that screen door stuff anywhere here, but found that face masks are suprisingly perfect filters for terrariums.
I wonder if you could retrofit some sort of side door on these containers to aid in feeding without disturbing the hammocks, which will likely be at the top of the containers? BTW, I love your ingenuity!
💜 THANK YOU, KAT!
what kind of temprature would you reccomend ? I might be getting a piece of wood from outside!
I wash my sticks off first, soap and water, then bake them in the oven at 250-275°F for 20-30 minutes.
But isn’t a spider a pest 😂
My first ever pet spider - a female jumping spider - will be here on Wednesday!!
So Kat's velvet spider will be carrying her to you on her back? :P

Honestly they are amazing
The only problem is feeding, they are miniscule. The only thing they'll eat is pet shop wingless fruit flied
omg the googly eyes effect from the ring light at 7:30 got me in stitches. LOL
Pause: you have a TOAD too?! Woman you are after my heart. That's the 2nd critter on my must have list 💝
I have a purple passion plant, they need to be water frequently or they'll wilt and look sad. 💜
They also don't like to be misted because of their fuzzy velvetiness

I’ve been watching so many videos on jumping spiders!! I’m definitely ready to get one 😍
I just got my first Tarantula. Its a Aphonopelma Chalcodes (please forgive me if thats not spelled correctly, im trying) and i am so inlove with it
I wonder if you could retrofit some sort of side door on these containers to aid in feeding without disturbing the hammocks, which will likely be at the top of the containers? BTW, I love your ingenuity!
Wood from the yard can also be boiled or baked to kill off harmful bacteria or bugs etc and sanitize
I just LOVE their eyes and little faces! :)
Back at it again ! Wuhuhhhhhhh
I CAUGHT A WILD ONE SO ITS MINE NOW 🏃🏃
I love theses enclosures they really helped out a lot thank you Kat 😊
hello great video Kat
Loving the aminita stool lol
Love your videos
Thx you. How do you clean the enclosures? Or no need to clean at all?
Some sticky tape over where you are drilling holes helps to prevent cracking.
I'm in love with your top
There is a cutie in my chili pepper plant so cute. Ive actually gave it food a couple times.
My first spider is coming tomorrow!!! I’m naming him October and he will be spoiled
