I DUCKING BALLED MY EYES OUT, I only started watching it because of all the UA-cam shorts recommendations I got and oh my god were they right. This first episode is absolutely amazing and ITS SO SAD AND I WAS BALLONG MY EYES OUT SO HARD, I haven’t cried like this in a long time. I GOT SO ANGRY AS WELL AT THE COMMENTS IN THE SHOW ABOUT HER DEATH. I got HIDIVE just to watch this and it was worth it, looking forward to more, BUT ITS GONNA BREAK MY HEART IN THE PROCESS PROBABLY 😭
THAT is some damn good directing, this entire scene when I watched it in another clip, made me cry and I never watched the show, I have no background on any of the characters. But the voices, the emotions, the sound and art, all of it comes together so raw. This shit has actually happened to other rising or famous women, that's what makes this scene ever more heartbreaking. The one I immediately thought of was Rebecca Schaeffer, who was killed at her front door as well by a deranged fan, for his feelings of rejection. She had made the mistake of getting too personal in letters to fans because she truly wanted to connect to them, I think to really love them in her own way-- this fan ended up showing up at her house and shot her. She was warned by her seniors and mentors who cared for her safety, but she had a pretty innocent and kind look on the world and it ended up betraying her.
Aside from the fact that OH GOD. Their lives were soo… 🥹🥹🥹 I think one more thing that adds up to how tragic and fked up it seemed to me, to the point that I bawled my eyes out and repeatedly ranted to my friends was how CLOSE it hit to reality…. I never read the manga, so I was totally innocent with what happened here. This first episode just amusingly destroyed me. Now, I decided still not to read the original material. I want to genuinely know what will happen next through the anime. On the other hand, when men begin crying over an anime, it means that it is fcking good.
When the adaptation is god-tier like this episode, it's better to watch the anime-only assuming you want to have the ultimate experience, since the animation really brought life to these characters better than manga, and the anime did justice to the original source (according to the first episode)

I feel like this entire scene in specific was so beautifully tragic that it literally helped me want to become a better person (be warned, this is long) Ai Hoshiono was a compulsive/pathological liar who never felt or gave true love, and she actually hates herself because of that. She hates that she lies so easily and well, and being an idol only made her feel even more bad because she knew she lied every time she told her fans that she loves them. Despite all of this, she still kept trying to the very end, hoping that her love will finally become true. She was smiling even in severe pain because she felt like she had it coming, she even wanted to love the person that literally killed her. She never told her kids that she loved them because she was so scared that it would be a lie, so she waited for the time when it would be true...and she got her wish. With her dying breath, she was able to finally say that she loved her kids and MEAN it. This made me cry not only because of the way it was executed, but because Ai was able to free herself from all of her sins, even if she died because of it. It felt like she was empathizing with me because I felt the same way too. I struggle with very bad mental health and built up dangerous beliefs that I'm a really bad person and that I don't deserve love. This caused me to hate myself a lot, but I still wanted to try to be better. This scene singlehandedly destroyed those bad beliefs and pretty much told me that even if I was really such a bad person, I can still keep trying to love and forgive everyone...including myself. Thank you Ai Hoshiono.
