This is an update from July 2024. I bought an LSA Ercoupe with a C85 engine. I have been flying it now for about a year. Still liking it. The farthest I have flown it was a triangle needed to pass the check ride. The biggest problem was finding and examiner who weighed less that 220 lbs. That would have made the plane over gross.

I hope it is not too late to ask some questions if you don't mind. How long did it take you to get signed off for a PPL or an LSA license? I just bought one of the LSA type and it is 85hp. I am beginning to prepare to undertake to get an LSA license 1st and then work my way up to PPL or similar with add ons.

Hi Lynn! Definitely not too late, thanks for asking! I don't have mine yet, that's actually an instructor with me who happens to be my cousin. Was hoping I would be able to get by with an LSA, but that Ercoupe is just over the requirement and needs a PPL. I think the LSA would take 20 hours while the PPL needs 40. Racking up as many hours as I can with my cousin to save a lot of money, and beyond that for the fun of it. Ideally I'd like to get this done within a year, but we shall see how realistic that ends up being.

@@travellintravis6373 I don’t understand what you mean by “the Ercoupe is just over the requirements and needs a PPL.” Do you mean that your Ercoupe is not LSA qualified? I.e. gross weight is 1400, not 1320?
By the way, there is no LSA rating. LSA refers to the aircraft. The certificate is Sport Pilot.
      Cheers!

@@kenthompson3730 yeah that's all I mean, it's just over the weight limit. We weren't sure and were hoping I could get away with the sport certification, since the Ercoupe is all I'm really planning to fly. But due to the weight of this one I need to go PPL.
