DIY: Garage Ventilation System for Under $20
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- In this video, I show you how I built my ventilation system for my garage. After everything is said and done, it cost me more than 20 bucks only because I didn’t include the fan into the equation as I’ve had it for years. I can basically guarantee everyone has a fan laying around at home. But anyways, the intake and exhaust system have filters that can be replaced for very cheap. Picked up the filters for 3 for 5 bucks at Home Depot, along with all of the wood for something like 17 bucks.
If you have any questions, post them in the comments section down below.
Thanks for watching,
Milan

FYI: those fiberglass filters are not gonna filter or clean any air... they call them "rock catchers" in the HVAC industry.
I think the only point of them is to trap any dust from coming in and getting on his freshly "dipped" car.
@@r6u356une56ney which they won't do for shit... :)
Thank you for that that could have cost me a paint job
@@sandman900rr How come? It literally says on the product page "Captures dust/lint, pollen, carpet fibers, and more"
@@JackRR15 the holes in the filter is this big to stop most dust. It will catch some but most will slide through.

Don't get me wrong I am just trying to give a little constructive criticism here. I worked (part time with a friend) in a body shop for 20 years. Your fan in the window should be your exhaust fan, blowing air out of the garage. If you get any significant amount of over-spray in the air in the garage the system of pressurizing the space will not push air out fast enough. With the exhaust in the window it will suck the inside air and the over-spray out much better and the fresh air will come in from under the door. It will take no further parts just the time it takes to turn the fan around in the window. Hope this helps. If not at least I tried.
Peace
+Gene A I'll give that a try :) Thanks!
+Gene A Cool that you're trying to help, but be careful on your advise. Not trying to be rude, but your suggestion could kill him and his family. Exhaust fan would pull fumes past a motor that emits sparks. Being that he's in a garage, the levels could easily hit the level needed for an explosion. Those fans aren't made for ventilation. For an exhaust fan, you'd need a sealed, explosion proof fan (the motor is housed outside of the air path).
+Andrew Stewart I'm aware of the risks of using that type of fan but if he starts the fan when he starts spraying it would be very unlikely it would ever get to the explosive state. He has a better chance winning the power ball. (just a little levity to ease the tension). He will have the front door open about 2 feet as well so, I'm pretty sure he would be safe. Thanks for pointing out my omission about the fan though, that is one point I did leave out.
Hey guys! So after what you guys are talking about it got me thinking. I guess now my question is, is it safe to have the door as the intake with a fan blowing air into the garage with the filter facing outside and then having the garage door opened with a few fans with filters facing outside?
I see a few guys that are worried about an explosion caused by a spark in the electric motor of an exhaust fan. Just a couple of points I'd like to make. 1) Pretty much every body shop I have been inside of has an exhaust fan of one form or another, not a positive pressure system. The filters are in place in front of the fan so any particulate matter (my chance to use a fancy phrase) gets cleaned out of the air before reaching the fan motor itself.and the air that is going through the fan is doing so at a high rate of speed.. not likely to explode. 2). In a 2 car garage as large as sick dips' is I don't believe you could get enough fumes in the air to cause an explosion. Just stop and think for a minute how much explosive material you would need in the air for that to happen. After reading a couple of material safety data sheets it appears as though you would need somewhere between 1% and 12.8% by volume saturation for it to be explosive. Even just the 1% would be approximately..(guessing the garage's dimensions) 30x16x12 ... about 5800 cubic feet...you would need somewhere around 58 cubic feet of vapor in the air(your math may vary) to be explosive.... that's a lotta stuff...... Just sayin'
I put this contraption together and, while it casts closer to $60 for the parts, to my surprise it actually works! I just put a coat of polyurethane on a large wooden dog kennel I'm building in my garage, set this thing up, turned on the fan and it did a good job pushing the fumes outside. Normally the entire house would smell and my wife would be giving me grief but even she didn't notice any fumes.
Since the company that used to build the Vent-a-Garage VG100 and 200 don't build them anymore, this is one of the few options if you don't have windows or holes in your garage wall to work with.
When you open a garage door it allso opens a area at the top
These filters catch only cats, dogs and small children. Table salt will fall through them. They will not keep dust out of your paint, dip or whatever you're using.
Says to be careful, uses a circular saw by his feet while wearing sandals. Lol. I love irony. Cool system too.
Well it's an 18 volt saw with kick back detection..... But still. Hahaha
Positive pressure ensures FILTERED air coming in along with fresh air. This positive pressure would also ensure dirt does not come in any other leaks in the garage, see next point.... His FTM (failure to measure) resulting in those gaping holes on either side of his filter assembly. Likely a 16' opening. Math would help him figure out the right size filters. By not closing the door all the way, the upper panel is not sealed, tape and plastic sheet would fix that. Use the manual release on the garage door opener, you may damage the opener if it's torque was not properly set.
Otherwise great idea! :P
Thanks for the video! I actually was waiting for some kind of a test of air circulation, like a smoke test to visualise the air movement after the intake fan has been applied.
7:00 Min's , Of Life Wasted ! Crapola< Flush This One !
YEP... Terrible advice!!
Than you ,you really helpme I was planing to make a hole on the wall but this is more useful and a lot of air and no modification to the house thanks 👍👍👍👍👍
surely you would want to filter what is coming in and not going out the filter on the exhaust would trap dirt inside the garage.
I noticed some comments saying that you should have an exhaust fan. DO NOT put an exhaust fan in this setup for spraying paint or dip. Unless you have an explosion proof fan (i.e. squirrel cage fan), you are asking for trouble. As the exhaust fan pulls the fumes through, the motor spark could ignite the fumes causing an explosion. Even a positive pressure system runs risk, but it's the safer bet. Also, make sure to turn off water heater and furnace if they're located in the garage while doing this. Props for showing people a trick for ventilation though.
What's the fricken point in filtering the exhaust air???
Just to waste filters
You want to filter the air in the garage just in case there's dust her hair floating around, that filter will grab anything and then Blow clean air.
I tought the filters are the intake and the fan will push the air out ,in that case no filter is needed on the fan and it will be the correct way 😃 but is just an idea ,and is after us to modify the project to meet ours requirements
😆😆😆😆
Thanks for the demo and info, have a great day
Under 20 bucks my ass.
6 filters $10
2x4s $15
screws $8
box fan $20
duct tape $4
More like under $60 bucks
Smart. Useful for winter time when you can't work on the driveway haha
Creative af. Good stuff. Gives me ideas for future projects. 👌
Anyone concerned about igniting fumes, you can force clean air in, and let it out passively. so the fan is blowing fresh air, not contacting fumes. You definitely need to turn the fan on before beginning to spray, and do not turn it off until flashed off. so there's no spark while spraying.
Hi from donald, but i happened to see your Red block type driveway can you explain in Short of how you did it or was it there when you bought your house ??
Why not buy 10 foot long lumber instead of 8 foot to make it span the width of the garage?
I would say under $52 Not $20
6) filters. $10
2) 2x6. $8 each. = $16
2) 2x4. $3.50 each = $7
1) cheep fan. $12
1) roll of duct tape. $7
Total without tax = $52 😒
Sweet video thou, I will be doing this.
Just need to save up $32 😞
😀 sorry I was board
Definitely need more credit for what ur doing keep up the great work bud
I guess if you're in a secure property it might be a good idea but if you are just out in a un-secure neighborhood looks like an easy in for burglars.
If you can see through the filters, it ain't filtering anything...
Curious would this help with carbon monoxide? From briefly running a car in a garage while working on it? Or should I look for another route?
Awesome video!
You deserve more subs
Very informative vids, keep it up
+Gursawake Salh Thanks :)
+Sick Dips Great vid as always!! Did you try both ways? Using as positive pressure and turning the fan around for exhaust? How effective did you feel each was?
Thanks..
You are awesome. Thank you
Good ideas. Nice video. Thanks. $20? Ummm no. Lumber. Vents. Fan?$50 mmmaybe. Thanks for the video though.
this is now a $2000 system in 2021
You need an exhaust scavenging system in the shop
Wow it must work so well, he doesnt show us how it works haha
In flip flops... yea
I need this bad
Price of lumber today this is like 200$ now lol.
cool. but that fan is not nearly enough. you need about 10 of those
So you put the fan in the window area so the outside air would be coming in and leaving. My garage like most has just a door that leads into the house. I have no other outside source of air from other than the garage door.
Max Ficarro So my question would be where to put the fans
Max Ficarro I'd put one that brings the air from inside your house into the garage. That'll be your intake system bringing fresh air in. Don't forget to use the exhaust system under the garage door.
Fail - go steal some centrifugal squirrel cage fans -- one to pull - one to push LARGE VOLUMES through better filters - I can't believe you tried using box fans - there's no air volume! Those air filters suck ass! lol
a Bud how did this work out for you ?
It's not very safe to all this work with open shoes but nice and help full video doe.
How do i vent a garage to live in or does it need to be??
Wow, you folks get so worked up over stuff....who cares how he does the exhaust as long as he does it shirtless and sweaty. That will be a most wonderful video.
can it protect from fallout air
how does this guy not have more subscribers
Like the Audi A4 of dipyourcar. To get that color, I should have 2 galons of gunmetal gray and 2 galons of metalizer s'il et?
Silver*
+TANAZEFTI Akram I'm not sure which colour you are talking about. That audi changes colours all the time lol
+Sick Dips lol sorry, it's about the anthracite grey, to get that color I bought 2 gallons of gunmetal grey + 2 anthracite grey. I will start with gunmetal grey and I will finish with the anthracite grey. Is that right?
+Sick Dips this gay had used 1 gallon of gunmetal grey + 1 gallon of anthracite grey. I bought 4 gallons, 2 of gunmetal and 2 anthracite to get a better result and long life. Is that right?
Sure is!! It will also be more durable TANAZEFTI Akram
Hi dude, about plasti dip, to get the anthracite gray color I must usé gunmetal gray + metalizer silver ??
+TANAZEFTI Akram Not necessarily, you will get a different colour that way. The you will get a gunmetal grey with metallic flakes in it if you go that route. Anthracite grey is a solid colour with no flake, and it will be less glossy
I think if you were to post the video as how to VENTILATE a garage with dust free air you would have better response. This clearly isn't going to work as a make shift paint booth.
Is this a joke?
20$ my butt..lumber is expensive
What if you don't have a window to put a fan in?
Eli Noblin Use a door leading into the garage. Seal it off if the gap is too big but that should work as well
Sick Dips the only door i have is the one that enters the house
Eli Noblin That will work too. As long as you are making a positive pressure in the garage, your exhaust will pull the bad air out.
Post a video soon
+DerpyDonkey Got 2 coming up soon! :)
makes no sense.
nice way to get rats
+Daquan Jr. This isn't installed on the garage door all of the time, only when you're dipping a vehicle
painting in garage cold whelher
"system"
