  • William Lane Craig is a Christian leader and he impacts a lot of people. But you can see he admits he’s going with the flow of what he calls mainstream science. In other words, he’s taking what the majority of scientists, secular scientists, are saying-billions of years-and saying that’s fact and then going to the Bible. He’s taking man’s word literally and God’s Word allegorically.

Given that science pretty much knows the world is billions of years old, it's very clear we've misunderstood his word, at least re Genesis.

@dasreicht "Science" means knowledge. God is omniscient, all-knowing. He says in His Word, the Bible, in Genesis Ch 1 that He created the world in 6 days. Since the Bible is a historical record, the exact historical genealogy given in it, adds up to 6,500 years appr. Do you know how culture explains evolution? It would take more than faith and miracles to believe it. Dawkins first said everything came from nothing. Scientific laws (1st Law of Thermodynamics) state that everything can not come from nothing. Now he says everything came from an intelligent being. If you found a watch on a beach and it worked precisely according to logic and reason, you wouldn't say it was formed from an explosion and it just fell perfectly together in place and began working. No, you would know it came from a factory where people had planned it out and formed it from existing materials. Or if you found a book and you saw beautiful color pictures and long lines of words in sentences that could form thoughts in your mind once you read it, I doubt you would believe that someone threw a grenade and the book fell together from the pieces. Then why do we believe a logical universe that runs by organized and precise laws came from an explosion? Or believe in a theory like evolution that: 1) Has not been proven (no one has ever seen a half fish-half bird etc) 2) is completely different from and does not count adaptation like in Galapogos finches, 3) tries to say we are little by little progressing as a universe when everything is actually growing worse and dying, as well as it goes against the 2nd scientific law of Thermodynamics that states that, within any system, change is constant and it all deteriorates over time.
Evolution is the one that does not add up to science.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

@@martinploughboy988 Yes it is. There's many forms of dating of things. They're also able to be cross-checked to some degree. They apply across the world, without exception. We've found wood older than what the Bible says, based on following seasons and how much trees grew (not a single tree, but many trees, and the patterns runs across).
There are uranium formations, which degrade into a known chain of other elements.

Then they compare rings across different trees by eye & decide that this ring looks the same as this ring, thus extending the range across multiple trees of different ages. It's more an art than a science & it is all tied up with assumptions.
As for dating methods agreeing, that's because any possible method that gives an answer that doesn't agree with their theory is rejected. No one has ever tested the ancient dates from radiometric dating methods to confirm their accuracy When known modern rock, for example at Mount St Helens, has been tested the result didn't fit the theory & therefore rejected by mainstream sciences.

An example of a geomarker which is too new is Sr-90 and Cs-135 decay chains... They show up in steel used in construction, and in exposed rocks since 1944. Nuclear weapons testing changed the air worldwide. Now, it's the fission products, but 100 years it will be the first fission product.

@martinploughboy988 What does the Bible say about the age of the earth? Genesis only gives a lineage, which had to be passed orally. It's not consistent between the two versions of Genesis.
We cannot verify the lineage, and ages are definitely skewed in prehistory, with lifespans in the hundreds of years. There is no history aside from whom they beget.
There is no divine copy of the Bible. It was written by someone based on oral history. It's been translated a few times. That doesn't change the message one iota.
YEC goes against ID. Also, is it a bad thing if God created the earth and everything, and we have our role, as opposed to everything was made just for us? That seems very... selfish. If God is great, isn't his creation great as well?

The oldest rocks on Earth are 4.2 billion years old; any older rocks have been recycled through plate tectonics. However, scientists have also performed radiometric dating on lunar rocks and meteorites, and they all point to an age of 4.5 billion years for the solar system, including Earth and all of the other planets.

As a born again, by the Grace of God, Christian, I will credit WLC with preaching Christ’s Gospel; however, there are significant errors in the manner in which he packages and presents that gospel. He is a ardent proponent of the Catholic Jesuit’s Luis de Molina’s non-exegetical philosophy of Molinism. A philosophy that suggests God is limited in the effectuation of His Will by something foreign and outside Himself. That God in effect is doing the best He can given imposed circumstances in His creation, much like the way a poker player is attempting to make the best hand possible with the cards he happens to have been dealt. This is found nowhere in Scripture and is in many ways antithetical to God as He has revealed Himself. It was a counter-reformation conjuring which had as its desire, the positing of man as fully autonomous being. Also, the Bible makes no formal declarations as to the age of the earth. Verses 1 & 2 in Genesis Ch1 are written in the past tense before verse 3 and the first day. I personally make no claims on the matter, though perhaps lean old earth if pressed. Its question and response offer nothing of substantial value and is generally a topic which is used as an excuse for the denial of truth.

Causing division within the body of Christ over non-essential and un-provable derived doctrines is not standing on God's Word.
Learn your church history: Old earth creationism did not begin as a moral compromise for evolutionary biology. Gap theory and other 'gap-like' theories existed as prominent interpretations of Genesis 1 long before the modern flood geology of AiG.
Want to test your faith in a meaningful way? Start a white-paper study of old-earth interpretations of Genesis 1. You can come away with your own conclusions, but I think you'll find that it isn't the threat to Biblical authority that Ken Ham wants you to think it is.

    • @bradmorris5797
      @bradmorris5797 11 місяців тому

By the way, you'll also find that understanding Genesis with an old-earth worldview does not 'broaden' or 'open' your mind; in fact, it narrows it. To understand Genesis in an old-earth light is to understand the singular purpose of the Book (Hint: NOT an astronomy book!).
Ken Ham sets up old-earth creationism as a gateway drug to atheistic evolution, and that it only ever existed in that context of compromise.
That's a load of bull. Old-earth creationism was a predominantly-held view in the church long before this flood-geology young earth stuff was even a consideration.
...yes, Isaac Newton was young-earth. But not because of flood geology and mostly for since-refuted reasons that even modern day young-earthers don't accept.
Christianity is not under fire from the likes of Craig, Lennox, Turek and Ross who do not buy the 'my way or the highway' line that Ken Ham uses.
It's a real shame...the more I hear from this man and his militant crusade against orthodox thought, the less credibility he has in my eyes. He should not be wasting his time putting down other believers.

The life span of the early men in scriptures (the Bible & even the Quran) is stated as very long (they lived to the age of more than 900 years), for eg, Noah died at the age of 950 years. But men's lifespan gradually decreased from Abraham to Moses (120 years old), maybe due to evolution? Could men had evolved from apes (the type of ape with a long lifespan & with soul & spirit)? @@RosalindToh I agree Eve was a "super woman", 😆. However, Adam and Eve were not a different "type of human". God created Adam from something that He previously created, the earth. Eve was also created from something previously created, Adam's rib. Everything else in existence was created from nothing solely by God speaking everything into existence. Everything was created in 6 24 hour days. The Hebrew word for a 24 hour day is "yod". That is the word used in Genesis. "Yod" is also used to in the Old Testament to mean a time era as in, "the day of Moses", or what we might say today, "back in the day". But almost always it means a 24 hour day. If "yod" means a 24 hour day in most of the Old Testament, why would it mean millions of years in Genesis chapter one? That is linguistically and hermeneuticaly illogical.
I'm very well acquainted with the Old Testament and how long people lived. The reason for the decreasing ages of people is due to sin which lead to God's curse and causes the physical nature of humans to degrade as everything degrades.
Evolution is nothing more than an unprovable theory.

    • @RosalindToh
      @RosalindToh Рік тому

@@denniscrumbley8274 Maybe the decreasing lifespan of humans is also due to the fact that the world population is so much higher in numbers now compared to that of the time of Adam, Eve, Seth, Noah etc. When earth was scarcely populated, God made humans with longer lifespan & higher fertility (eg, Eve's ability to give birth to more than 60 children)! As the population increased, lifespan decreased to help control the numbers, & lifespan alao decreases due to man's unhealthy lifestyle of consuming cancer-causing food, unhealthy diet, lack of exercise & obesity?

One could easily reverse the positions of the viewpoints in that statement (or not), and, depending on which one he gives more credence to, whether spiritual or material, seem to himself to be just as correct either way.
Nonetheless, scripture and what science (currently) regards as the physical reality do not actually conflict over this matter. The controversy is actually unnecessary. If I may illustrate...
Genesis 1:1 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
      Fine.
1:2 "And the earth was formless and void..." and covered with water.
      Alright.
Many of my Christian siblings say that God created the heavens and the earth in 7 days. I examine scripture to see if that is actually what it says:
1:3 "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
So the first day encompassed what?
It encompassed the existence of light (on earth) and a division of that light between day and night which defined the first day itself.
Did that first day involve the creation of the earth (globe) itself?
No. The earth was already in place before the first day. What the first day did involve was a step of preparation of the earth for life (as we now know it) to exist on it.
Then when _was_ the earth created?
It was creating _in the beginning_, as stated in 1:1.
      Then, when was "the beginning"?
Some undefined period of time prior to the first day in which God began preparing the earth for life (as we now know it).

What we see now is probably 6000 years old. What it was before we don't know.

I never hear these guys ever talk about how long a day might have been for God during the creation. A day could have been an Age, millions or billions of years, no one knows, each side would rather entrench themselves and just shout that the other side is wrong and never consider that maybe both can be true.
