The reality of characters in this show frightens me... like Manaka, her feelings about Retsuko joining the group, taking the role as the main vocal from her, if it was another regular anime, she would or try to kill Retsuko or go immediately depressed and drop out from the group. But I think real life would be probably like it was represented, she did not hide she was angry, but instead she kept getting good and gradually accepted Retsy.
She's great, what do you mean? She pushes Retsuko to stop being passive wuss and reach her dreams and gave spot-on warnings when it came to the stalker (Retsuko didn't listen, assumed the best and almost died for it). She was protective, loyal and true to her friend who may outshine her, that takes a big person. She brought out the best of Retsuko, was real with her. She's the best friend for Retsuko in my opinion, wants what's best for her and pushes her to see what she really wants while being dependable. She was more "Is this what you really want?" kind of gal, no filter but also risking herself to protect her, unlike other meddlers of Retsuko's life. I feel like Retsuko could be her truest self around Manaka, who empowered Retsuko in the truest way with her tough love and no fake garbage outside shows attitude. They hung out even after they stopped working together, I think Retsuko really appreciated how true she was with her personality.
Manaka is like a not so depressing version of shikabane. They both give zero shit about the world, Shikabane takes the brooding approach and gives up. Manaka toughened up and kept on fighting without any doubt in her heart. Shikabane is a nihilist, manaka is an existentialist.
Yeah, they both are pretty similar unsuprisingly to me. With Manaka, and a little bit of Shikabane and also Shikabane, with a little bit of Manaka they kind of fullfilled each other. But seeing the current state of Shikabane, i worry about her a lot but pretty hopeful with how Manaka is doing. Well we don't know what's going to happen for sure and what is in the store...
@@Biscuity_hole True, but the fact Shikabane is looking for apartments at least gives the idea she's taking the first step. I know people wanted to see more, but life isn't always that quick. Things take time, especially to crawl out of a state you have been in for what might've been YEARS.

I initially hated Manaka, but I stopped hating her after season 3 since she’s such a good friend to Retsuko and just because i feel like she wasn’t such an asshole like at the beginning of season 3
I ship it so hard. do all friendships need to be romanticized? no. but it is SO so easy to read their relationship growth as Manaka slowwwwwwly falling for Retsuko and going from 'dismissive and petty' to 'protective and encouraging.'
She is a crazy good character. All of them are. In a lesser anime, she would be a antagonist, one who are bitter for losing the spotlight. But here, she is endearing, and really made you think what is it that you want, and what it takes to get there.
Came to say - I sadly did not enjoy season how seasons 4/5 went with their story direction. Yes it had good morals and great undertone plot points, but it maybe needed another draft or two to have cleaner connections to the rest of the show.
yeah, they were messy and honestly crammed together. i mean, haida working to screw over his job and having a dramatic anime battle with The New Boss, who then gets dethroned when Old Boss heals from his injury just in time for the plot to move forward. then haida quits his job, running off to a net cafe and retsuko gets upset when there's a girl he crashes with at the cafe, then haida moves in with retsuko shortly after, then all of a sudden haida's brother is running for office, so retsuko ALSO RUNS FOR OFFICE, JUST to encourage people to let out their inner rage, and haida's brother has a whole character reform??? seems messy to me
I didn't like how she criticized Retsuko for just wanting to post her singing online and had an aversion to wanting to sing in front of a crowd. There's a difference between singing in a private room or in your own house compared to singing on stage in front of alot of people. Some people just feel more comfortable in their own privacy rather than having audience. I know she was frustrated and angry but she didn't have to attack Retsuko like that.
I interpreted it as her being mad she was making up excuses on why she posted it (for the money) and not giving herself a chance to actually admit her enjoyment of others seeing her preform
Most of these characters in this show i don't feel the need to hate because they all reflect ppl I know who're going through the same things. I guess this is a show that express the livelihood of actual adults
