      I have found in my experience that neither the GoPro 12/11 or Action 4 was suitable for a Non Content Creator who does not want to edit just take photos and videos. Action 4 creates Gigabytes of files within a few minutes and split a single video across multiple files, 4K videos are double the file size of my S23 with the same settings and not much difference in quality (for me at least). The GoPros over heating issues rule out anywhere above 30 degrees for when you want to just record and forget about it when you need your hands for Activities. Also the GPS was just awful on the GP11 and not practical wasting several minutes of battery just to get a signal that will probably just stop working after a few minutes of recording. The absolute must have feature for me was GPS tags, as I travel ALOT and keeping my photos organised used to be a real pain, now I can just select a location and see all my photos organised instantly. I am hoping that the Ace Pro comes with some bitrate settings to reduce file sizes I find the S23 in terms of quality more than suitable for my needs so just wanting the same in an action camera. Fast charge, AI Recommendations and some of the clever features of the Companion App were also a big selling feature for me.

      GoPro Hero 12 for me. Love the colours, EIS is great, so much that I don't even use the boost mode because it seems too artificial, to my eyes, rock solid build if it stayed true to it's predecessors and I don't need low light and AI stuff for what I use it for (motovlogging).

    Had a GOPRO 11, DJI OSMO 4 but I don't have a Acepro. I do mountain biking videos and I have the camera attached to a chest mount. From my point of view I need a wide field of view with very good stabilization, no overheating, not too heavy and good battery life. Also while mounted for me a front screen that you can interact with is very much appreciated. The flip screen in my scenario is not usable. So for me it is DJI Action 4 although if GOPRO would have thought about a front screen with touch and a quick screen flip shortcut I might have stayed with GOPRO.

    The Ace pro's purevideo mode and clarity zoom are gonna be the new benchmarks. Low-light performance also seems quite promising and definitely competitive with the Action 4. I'll need to watch more comparisons between Ace pro and action 4 to really see which one's better. Right now I'm more leaning toward Ace Pro tbh.

    Quality wise the Insta360 takes the win easily, and way better dynamic range than both (especially compared to the GoPro...) and better colors than the DJI but on par with GoPro, and better low light than the GoPro. The zoom is also a good option, but a shame it’s missing 10bit and Log. Audio is weird on the DJI..
    And wow that low light stabilization!
    The Insta360 is the way to go it seems

    This is one of the most balanced reviews I've come across on UA-cam! I'm on the lookout for a camera that can handle both my vlogs and action footage. The Ace Pro seems to tick both boxes with its flip screen - a game changer for us solo vloggers. Low light performance looks fire too. Keep these reviews coming - thanks for what you do!

    I have 3 GoPro cameras, hero 5 and 8 and the 360 max. I just order the Insta360 Ace Pro for my videos. I am just tired of the GoPro failure and problems they have. It was a tough choice between Insta360 and DJI but hoping for better quality videos and not losing anymore video shots. I only get one chance at my shot and GoPro has glitched and failed me too many times to upgrade to another GoPro.

    1) For those who want to get the best image quality and proces the image, Action 4 is the best (10-bit log with sharpnes turned off).

    I have bought the Insta360 Ace Pro and I'm amazed by the quality of this camera. It's really amazing! The only small disappointment to me is that even the widest angle isn't as wide as the Osmo Action's onem which is a small drawback for extreme sport POVs. But other than that, this camera is soooo amazing!

    Having watched many a "review" and "comparison" video over the last couple of weeks between these three cameras, I'm glad to see the signs of a well used action camera on your OA4 and on the GH12. I wonder how the AP will fare in harsh conditions, given its flippy screen and non-replaceable lens cover.
    Insta360 are marketing it as an action camera but it's really more of a vlogging/travel camera than anything else. Tapping the screen to get 2X zoom or pausing recording during a bike ride or while skiing down a slope doesn't mean a thing to those who need a tough point and click camera. Even worse if you think about what can happen to the flippy screen if you drop it at high speed.
    Don't get me wrong, I think all major action cameras are getting more and more gimmicky, AI, HDR, low light magic and all that jazz but that's not what's going to sell them to me, as a motovlogger. I want something I can use and trust that won't break if I drop it or, heaven forbid, crash.
    I rocked a GoPro Hero 6 Black for four years (Most of the videos on my channel were filmed on it) until it died on me. I lost count of how many times the thing fell on the ground, had to replace the lens cover three times, had scuffs and marks all over it but it kept going until it finally started overheating for no apparent reason and not recording at all.
    Four years of constant abuse in the cold, rain, snow and heat. I got a free replacement under the GoPro membership thing and got a Hero 9, which I still use to this day. Never had an issue with it except when using the awful and completely useless media mod. Come on GoPro, what were you thinking when you made that?
    Sorry if I'm highjacking your comments but I sincerely hope that all these new cameras can hold themselves up to the challenges of proper "action camering"!
    Great comparison video. Cheers :)

    • @borsh2002
      @borsh2002 6 місяців тому

      Indeed, for your type of use scenario GoPro might be the one, although the screen of Ace Pro i can bet it is a durable one, the only big gripe remaining is the non replaceble lens (who knows maybe they can do it under waranty or other DIY solution). In other areas where the crashes and drops is not such a daily thing the Ace Pro seems to be king. In my country, on the YT channels that i follow, action cameras are used for their small size and filming capabilities in harsh weather like fishing vloggs, car reviews, DIY stuff building and tools reviews. It means that battery life and charging, quality of image , lack of heating under stress and warm weather should be more important. In that area you need a better image quality using the light that you have available, in tight areas around the house, so GoPro is not quite the one to rule them all. Every product has it`s niche and buyers but in general, taking 100 people into the scheme , i can bet that more then 50% of them will find Ace Pro the better choise.

    Good job brother. I have the GP11 and the Action 3 and 4 and after seeing your clips (thanks), I don’t see a massive enough reason to abandon the Action 4. I have to admit I was surprised to see this new release with a more complex piece of action/convenience gear. I’m no stranger to Insta360 and have used most of their cameras in the past 7 years but I’ll probably pass on this release. Thanks for the review.

    • @canyonblue737-8
      @canyonblue737-8 7 місяців тому +5

      the only thing clearly better is the low light stabilization (not low light, they both are equally bright but stabilization specifically) vs. the Action 4. but when you consider the Action 4 has 10 bit, LOG, replaceable lens glass, better battery life, better daytime stabilization in camera, is smaller, better better battery charger, horizon lock in some modes in camera (vs. post for Ace Pro) and more I still think it is a better option right now... in particular if you are in the "DJI world" where you can shoot identical D-Log M between the Action 4, Pocket 3 (killer 1 inch mechanically stabilized camera that destroys all these cams at night) and their drones like the Mini 4 Pro. insta360 joining the party is an excellent thing because it will drive all these companies forward and I expect the large and fast moving DJI to quickly match and exceed any lacking features compared to the Ace Pro in an Action 5 in 2024... the real question is how will GoPro respond because they are far slower moving, a smaller US based company, and seem to have budgetary issues that might make it difficult to keep up with these other Chinese based Goliaths. I'm rooting for all of them... because then we the consumers win.

    • @SeanHelmsMedia

      @@canyonblue737-8 well said. This is exactly what I was inferring. With my Mavic 3 Pro, mini 4 Pro, Pocket 3, Action 4…I feel like the dlog-m and exact color matching amongst these devices covers most scenarios. 10 bit is mandatory now days for me. I agree that competition breeds growth and never want to see that die off. I just wish we had an American competitor instead of watching other countries battle it out in our back yard. Happy Holidays friends.

    So I will be getting an action camera for filming camping setups and various areas of nature. From dipping it in the ocean, being in the rain and whatever else weather. Mainly for the camping filming. A big worry I have is the fact the lens is not removable. If it breaks thats a huge pain in the ass and expense to get it sent in and fixed. Other cameras the lens can be popped off and easily replaced. Other thing is i absolutely hate editing. I see the Ace pro has a AI mode that auto generates all the best parts youŕe capturing. For me that will make editing a lot easier. A big selling point for me on the gopro 12 is the fact you can shoot in Full mode and instantly change it to vertical footage in its editing app. I will be making a lot of content for both wide youtube and vertical shots for socials. Does anyone know if either the Ace pro or action camera offer this feature? Anyone have advice on what camera to get based off what i wanna use it for?

I still have a goPro hero 3 that still works but is close to not working. and I also trust DJI because they just seem to make good products. but I don't really know about Insta360 as a brand. but the Ace looks like a good camera. but it doesn't matter how good it is if you end up having a problem with it. does anyone have an opinion about this ?

      I was thinking the same but the GoPro still has overheating issues and that is a respected trusted brand. Up until about 4 weeks ago I thought Insta360 was just selling budget Instagram cameras and had no idea they had products in the same league as GoPro and DJI. As neither the GoPro 12 or Osmo Action 4 have been a good fit for me I think its worth the risk, alleviated by the Accidental Damage cover and Extended Warranty that Insta360 offer will see when it arrives and you get 2 weeks return policy so gives me plenty of time to evaluate it.

    That would be an absolute no-go for me, even if the camera is otherwise really interesting.

    How on earth is the gopro footage so shaky on the side by side wth? I was walking after dark with gopro yesterday on the city and it was smooth sailing. Only very dark situations the stabilization stopped working, but were talking way darker than what those footages had on this vid. EDIT: On manual mode you can increase the shutter speed to re-enable stabilization on the gopro and dji. ofc they will look darker and not as good as the ace, but its better than no stabilization if you only have Gopro or dji.

    So I recently returned the Osmo Action 4, while it is undoubtedly a good camera for content creators I found it to not be great for someone who just wants to take videos and photos with no editing. Filesizes were just ridiculous and filming in 4K @ 60fps I could not even play the video back on my laptop in realtime as it overwhelmed the CPU (Laptop had no issues with my S23 4K @60fps), another gigantic pain was that it constantly split recordings over multiple files forcing you to join them up in editing software (which I don't use). The GPS remote was delayed on launch so I couldn't purchase it and being able to organise all my clips by location is an absolute must have for me as I am travelling most of the year. I have now ordered the Ace Pro with GPS remote which seems to be a better fit with its AI easy edit features and much better photo quality compared with Osmo Action, I just hope the file sizes are not gigantic for short clips like the OSMO Action..

  • @MilanAryal7
    @MilanAryal7 7 місяців тому +7

    The flip-up screen on an action camera? Not for me. If I need one for vlogging or similar purposes, the Osmo Pocket 3 is the best choice. I still favor the Osmo Action 4 for its price, battery life, usability, bundled packs like the adventure combo, superior waterproofing (18m on OA4 vs. 10m on Ace Pro), and image quality, which is on par or even better in some instances with the same sensor size. The AI features on Ace Pro didn't impress me much, I also trust DJI updating firmwares and adding similar AI software features to the OA4.
    However, I am excited and keeping an eye out for the Insta360 One X4, which might come with a better sensor (1/1.3 inch) similar to the Ace Pro, higher resolution 360 video, and other exciting features.

      I'd have agreed until I got Insta360's GO 3 this summer. The flip screen is very robust and locks in the down position. It doesn't seem to increase the size of the package all that much and has large advantages when looking to frame the image when aiming at yourself. I don't think there are too many downsides. All in all I think the Ace Pro's only real clear win over its competitors however is low light stabilization which clearly bests even the Action 4. The downsides are significant however for users that rely on 10 bit, LOG etc. All in all I still prefer the Action 4... its GoPro that has its work cut out for it because at this point is trailing more and more and relying on its brand.

      @@canyonblue737-8 I liked the GO 3, and it is aimed at different shooting scenario as compared to proper action camera like Ace Pro. I prefer Osmo Action 4 for action adventure shoots for the reasons I mentioned earlier, of course including 10bit log on OA4!

    Since you asked, I got them all right. I want the action 4 but highlights are burned out. My concern about the 360 is it has less waterproofing than the action 4 and I plan on using this for kayaking. The other concern for the action 4 is "lens flair" the lens lacks protective coatings to control lens flair so shooting into the sun is a no no.

    Ace pro I think has best overall image quality by just a slight bit but the Action 4 still has best FOV and audio. Ace pro is close in audio but not quite there and GoPro still sound the same as hero 5 with muffled sound and completely out of date. One thing is for sure is GoPro has been asleep. The 12 should have just been a firmware update and waited a year rather than releasing an already obsolete camera a month after your competitor. After years of no competition and using GoPros (which I like my 11 for some features) it’s nice to see a return to the action camera market and really liking my action 4. If the ace pro version 2 adds replacement lens and wider natural FOV or action 5 gets better low light that will be the next clear winner or if GoPro decides to wake up and enter the fight with new sensor and mounting. For now they all have some pros and cons but I think for most its really between the action 4 and ace pro and for me FOV beats zoom and I guess for the very limited market of people doing night lapse then GoPro.

    If you are like me and like to shoot in low light situations, then the Insta360 Ace Pro is hands down the right move. However, If you don't mind the grain look in low light situations, either the GoPro Hero 12 or the DJI Action 4 will work just fine. The price is close on all three when pricing other cameras. The best deal out there I think is the GoPro Hero 12. I've been seeing it at $289. To some that might be the right choice and it would be. Next year, all 3 of these companies will offer something better then this year. I keep telling people this, stop worrying about your equipment and think more on lighting and composition. In the end, I shoot most of my video on a Canon 70D at 1080. If I need 4K, then I will use software to enhance and upscale to 4K and it looks amazing.

    All the comparisons 8n the last few days with this hype on the new insta360, and they all forget one very important key feature of an action cam: durability!!! Stop showing a side by side walking down the street, 8 can do that with an iPhone. Take them to the ocean for surfing, ski down the slopes or any other extreme sports for a month and than tell us who survived this trials. Hint: that flip screen and unchangeable lense on the insta is disadvantage not a feature. For a vloging touristy aight seeing its great, but it's far from an action camera. And don't forget about privacy, all your videos stored on a Chinese cloud with no regulation what so ever, keep that in mind. I'll wait for GoPro to catch up
