1) Jurong East The hub for all Westies is one of the busiest places during peak hours. The queues at Jurong East are like snakes and sometimes will start from one platform and end on the other platform. Even though there is more than one platform going to the same direction, the queues are still endless. 2) Choa Chu Kang For those staying in Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang, the easiest way to connect to Jurong East/Buona Vista is via Choa Chu Kang. Hence, the crowd here in Choa Chu Kang in the morning can easily overwhelm you if you are not prepared for it. 3) Woodlands In the morning, the train going northbound will see the crowd coming in droves at Woodlands. The queues at the stations are endless and you can say that having a little space to stand on while queuing is a blessing. 4) Yishun The crowds at Yishun are getting really bad nowadays with all the new BTOs completed in the area. Morning crowds tend to extend from one end of the platform to the other end, and multiple queues will form as there is simply no space to handle the crowds. 5) Ang Mo Kio Being one of the oldest neighbourhood in Singapore, Ang Mo Kio naturally has more residents crowding the train station. The overcrowding issue is made worse by the fact that the southbound trains are already fully packed before they reached Ang Mo Kio. Good luck in waiting for a train here, for you can probably get in on the 3rd or 4th train. 6) Bishan After the Circle Line calls Bishan its interchange station, Bishan has become crowded during peak hours. It is common to see droves of people crowding the small little platforms in Bishan without the chance of getting onto an already overcrowded train. 7) Toa Payoh The old neighbourhood in Singapore deserves the title of being overcrowded too. The good thing about this station is the fact that the station is relatively big, so the squeeze at the station is not too bad. Nonetheless, the frustration of trying to get on a southbound train in the morning is very real indeed. 8) Dhoby Ghaut Another interchange station worthy to be on this list, Dhoby Ghaut is an interchange station to 3 lines - the North-South line, the North-East line and the Circle Line. It is no joke trying to take a train here during peak hours, for the queues are always long. 9) City Hall It is expected that City Hall will be crowded as there are many people who works here. The crowds are mostly office workers rushing to the office or rushing home, hence the pushing and jostling can get out of hand sometimes. Moreover, the interchange station for the North-South and the East-West line is a must for someone who stays in the East and works in the North. 10) Raffles Place The crème of the crop - Raffles Place is CBD and hence, the busiest of all MRT station. To say that it is overcrowded appears to undermine the crowds that it handles. Sufficient to say, Raffles Place is not a place where you would like to be at during peak hours because you will be squeezed, shoved and pushed into and out of trains. There you have it, the 10 stations that make you feel like uber-ing. Do you agree?
Cashew Station probably because its design, it only had 1 Exit on one side of the road compared to Hillview (maybe due to mindef safety reasons) , and is only a short bus ride away from bukit Panjang.
The same reasoning for Tan Kah Kee can be applied to Bras Basah. Bras Basah is actually crowded. December is school holiday so all ur SMU students wont be there. But I'm surprised Springleaf is on the list considering the food places nearby.
Well Ampang Yong Tao Foo has since closed down/moved out from the Springleaf area, & maybe food places alone won't attract that many passengers to a station? E.g. meanwhile Farrer Rd station is surrounded by high-rise condos & HDBs but is also relatively quiet, maybe as there aren't so many densely populated neighbourhoods slightly further away with connecting buses to them, while the shops & hawker centre there maybe don't attract so many people from elsewhere. However maybe better bus connections from Springleaf MRT to southern Yishun will boost the station's ridership
Not really, I visited and it's just a long walk down with random food stalls Honestly if you take the train down 2 stops to mayflower, you immediately get access to 2 kopitiams and 1 kedai kopi (malay kopitiam) with mala, seafood / zichar, western food, cai png, etc The other exit got Indian muslim food, domino's, McDonald's, burger king It was honestly very disappointing to go to springleaf. Especially 6pm got nothing much
Thank you for making this! Always happy to see interest in the usage aspects of our public transport network :) Actually, here are more clear-cut reasons for Bras Basah: 1. Bencoolen station on the DTL is located close enough to interchange with it, but due to them being considered separate stations, they also have separate usage numbers. 2. Its proximity to Dhoby Ghaut, a major interchange just 600m away. 3. The low frequency of branch line CCL services during both peak and off-peak hours. SMU students and others coming from Dhoby Ghaut would prefer to walk instead.
good point! however bras basah sees regular 5 min frequency during off-peak hours, even the branch like to marina bay runs at this frequency. no matter the case, trains on the circle line will run at intervals of a maximum of 5 mins, and 2-3 mins from promenade to stadium
The transfer between Bras Basah & Bencoolen stations is also inconvenient, with the underpass connecting them @ B1, but their platforms located @ B5 & B6 respectively
I remember Tampines station was also pretty crowded, where the platform escalator Q of ppl who just alighted from the train didn't manage to clear in time before the next trainload of passengers arrive
There will be a new condominium development called 'Lentor Modern'. When it has reached its TOP, the residents there can benefit from Lentor MRT, thus increasing the station's ridership.
Read that the gov't sold 5 land plots in Lentor within just 2 yrs after its station was completed, maybe to populate the area as rapidly as possible & boost the station's ridership
I’m extremely surprised none of the Tuas Extension stations ended up on this list. The TEL3 stations aren’t too surprising considering how new they were at the time. The one that really surprised me were Bras Basah… it’s in quite a popular and busy location. I suppose the proximity to Bencoolen and the mentioned closure of the art museum contributed to it. I expected Marina South Pier to be up there somewhere, but I didn’t expect Cashew to come first.
I suppose a better way to look into the data is to take a yearly average. As you said the newer stations are still accepting new people so you could exclude then for now. Anyway, interesting video. I hope there can be more like this.
thank you for the suggestion! the main reason why i didn't include the yearly average is that the data isnt easy to collect and is rly labour intensive (i took like 5 hours to collate the data for one month alone). however i appreciate your suggestion and i definitely think that thats a great idea!
I feel that this video should use the data from any month except December, as it skewed the results as many Singaporeans being overseas or having school holidays. I am also surprised that the few MRT stations at Tuas are far from least used. At the end, maybe it will be good to put the 11th to 20th ranked station together for a few seconds for all to see
I guess on the weekdays there are many factory workers patronizing the station, & on weekends the stations are probably near migrant worker dorms & the workers use the MRT on their off days to go for outings? Maybe SMRT would be keen on Forest City as its residents commuting into Singapore could help boost ridership along the Tuas W Extension
I use Cashew station daily and yeah this MRT station is super underutilised. The station only serves like 2 condominiums, MINDEF and APS, so outside of peak hours, the station is completely empty. Hopefully when NS hub opens this year, the station will receive a higher footfall
Maybe LTA will attempt bus rationalization to divert more Bt Panjang residents to use Cashew station. I thought many other stations along DTL stage 2 had low ridership too as they're in less densely populated areas e.g. Hillview, King Albert Pk, 6th Ave. Maybe these stations should've been skipped by express trains as most passengers on board would've been boarding/alighting @ Bt Panjang instead, so as not to waste their time. I remember people also questioning why DTL stage 2 passes thru so many less densely populated areas, & I guess its for the line to serve densely-populated Bt Panjang. Which then led me to think why we decided to build a densely populated town in that type of more isolated place that's more difficult to have been served by other lines that didn't cut thru as many less densely populated areas
Cashew is in between the Bukit Panjang terminal and Hillview station which has most riders being a connecting point to the surrounding apartments and HDB flats.
thank you for this video!! it was super educational and interesting to watch !! its nice to learn more about our own country :D please make one for the top ten most used stations xDD
Woah can't believe Springleaf is at the top, always thought it would be one of the lowest since it seems to just be serving that neighbourhood and the army camp. Actually since it looks like the most convenient way to reach that area maybe that's why the usage is so high.
Surprised that Orchard Boulevard is rarely used, though it's my favourite of TEL3 due to the skylights and interior of the station. And Woodleigh also is rarely used too (for now)
TBH, woodleigh is not super rarely used, the neighbourhood of joo seng is nearby and many students use woodleigh (cedar sec, cedar primary, international american school etc). When Bidadari estate gets fully saturated it will be a very busy station.
I found it funny how close the entrances are between Shenton Way and Downtown, especially as there is just a grass field between them so they are literally neighbors
The land that Central B'lvd Towers now sits on should've been developed before that of the adjacent Asia Sq, to take advantage of direct underground connections to these underground MRT stations earlier. Because we didn't do that, Asia Sq's escalators & lifts built to connect to these underground stations ended up remaining unused for a whopping 11 yrs since the building's completion, until Shenton Way MRT station opened
In the “old days”, my wife and I stayed at a relative’s flat in Punggol, so we used the NEL a lot. Back then, if you saw more than two people get on or off at Woodleigh Station, it was unusual. Times certainly change. With the development Singapore regularly experiences, I’m sure a new ten least used stations will supplant these ten soon.
Thomson East Coast Line, barring the interchanges, is usually underutilised. It passes through alot of affluent, private housing estates and not hard to figure why they dont need the MRT
I was at the marina bay station interchange to change to TEL and, be in no doubt, it is THE quiestest interchange. It was on a sunday afternoon and somehow I was the only person on the platform for the whole 6 minutes I waited for the train. I think the biggest issues with most TEL stations is how long the walk it is to get from the escalators to the gantries. Especially with GBTB and orchard boulevard (GBTB is pretty empty as well, mind, even during CNY celebrations) GBTB station is so remote that most just end up going to Downtown instead unless one wants to go directly to SBTB but that's really a stretch to call it GBTB
Well you should have included Woodlands North because only during the school term due to one of the exits is near Republic Polytechnic (i am studying in that campus)
I walk past Cashew station every Sunday... I have never seen many people enter the station, but that's probably because it's not on a school day. Cashew does get more relative use in the early afternoons on weekdays though
Serangoon confirmed will be inside, the station could very well surpass Jurong East (at this point) as being the 'true' heavily used Interchange station in Singapore due to the fact the station serves many developments especially the NEX shopping mall (which has very high usage as it's huge), housing estates and bus Interchanges therefore making this station extremely crowded during peak hours!
🤔, I'm guessing #1 to be Orchard or City Hall. Dark horse contenders would be Tampines, Jurong East or Serangoon. This is also assuming junction MRT stations would have the ridership from all their lines added up.
Bras Basah is directly next to Bencoolen station, their so close they should be an interchange of the same station. Coming to Bras Basah requires Changing of train at promenade, which is so inconvenient.
despite the multiple comments saying that cashew is useless, there is actually a reason why i would disagree. my friend who lives in bukit panjang but studies at sji (st josephs) would alight at cashew after boarding at stevens. he WALKS just 7 mins from cashew to petir lrt, and then take 1 stop to pending 👍🛤️ also, there is a hdb estate nearby called gangsa road estate fyi. I live in the west so i am familiar with these locations.
I tried hopping off at orchard boulevard to look for stuff different from just orchard. I was extremely disappointed and just went directly to regular orchard

I've been living in this country for all my 19 years of life and I've never heard of Springleaf, Napier, or Cashew before today. Also I use the Bras Basah station pretty often to get to the complex, and there's always some sort of crowd around the place
08:25, What a nice prank/joke! 😅😂 I knew from the beginning of the video, number one is gonna be a Tokyo, Japan's train station prank😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅. I love Shinjuku!!!

Hey man, Cahsew's future may change. The new CMPB building would be near it soon, so expect more young men coming for pre-enlistment checkup or nsmen getting charged going there.
Anyone realising that its mostly the downtown & thomson east coast line being dumped on? Others : CC2 Bras Basah And NS28 due to final station & non-interchange
Well the TE line was quite new and it serve only the northern part of singapore and it wasnt completed with its extension to marine parade area so i think thats why the ridership is still quite low😅
i used fliki, however it was a free plan with only 5 minutes of talk time/month (however i js created 4 accs as an alternative to purchasing a paid plan)
@@sgbuses no problem, to be completely honest here i use capcut on my phone to edit all my videos. its pretty convenient, without having to import your videos into your computer, and also has a great array of features. looking forward to seeing your first heavily edited videos :)
This is why in kl, we will revise the the line that we're gonna build and will shelved up the stations that we thinks gonna be the least used in every lines
Interesting! You mentioned at the start of the video that you got the data from LTA's Datamall. Which specific dataset did you use to get this list of least used stations?
I was expecting Tuas west road, Woodleigh and Marina south. I don't think that Tuas link station is the least used because there are still people who travel there to view the sunset near Raffles Marina Light house.
For the impatient.

I've been living in this country for all my 19 years of life and I've never heard of Springleaf, Napier, or Cashew before today.
Also I use the Bras Basah station pretty often to get to the complex, and there's always some sort of crowd around the place
I would say that Bras Basah has competition with other nearby stations so it makes sense
The station that suprised me the most was Shinjuku, 3.6M? 8:23
can you do a top 10 most used?
My blue line 💔💔💔
08:25, What a nice prank/joke! 😅😂 I knew from the beginning of the video, number one is gonna be a Tokyo, Japan's train station prank😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅. I love Shinjuku!!!
ikr
wait why was this kinda interesting
Busiest MRT Stations will be
Bedok (East)
J.East (West),
Woodlands(North),
City Hall (Central).
u forgot serangoon n bishan
TEL line seemed to be built for the rich.
I used Bras Basah to go to museum recently (am a tourist) and it was still very empty! I wonder why?
i miss going to tan kah kee everyday 😭
Spring leaf is really under rated. There got a nice prata. I love it. Curry with sambal
以前其实到了裕廊整辆车都几乎没人了。 现在每个站都还可以有一些人算物尽其用了
Route comparison suggestion: Chinatown to Woodlands
Option 1: NEL ➡ NSL (Dhoby Gaut): 2 stops + 15 stops = 17 stops
Option 2: NEL ➡ TEL (Outram Park): 1 stop + 14 stops = 15 stops
Shinjuku STN 8:21 got me😂😂😂
Cashew will probably see an increase in ridership once NS Hub officially opens after many years of delay.
I'm honestly surprised the following stations did not make it on the list:
Gul Circle
Tuas Crescent
Tuas West Road
Tuas Link
Beauty World
Ubi
Kaki Bukit
Tampines West
Tampines East
Upper Changi
Woodlands North
Haw Par Villa
Labrador Park
Woodleigh
Kovan
I know there are like bajiliontrilion stations but like
sigma
same!
Well I'm sure tampines west has low to moderate demand. (I also use this station btw since I live in this area)
Kovan has alot of people
Tampines east is kind of crowded during peak hours.
Woodleigh area is now pretty built up with BTOs nowadays so footfall would've increased by now.
Bras Pasah low ridership maybe bcos there are many surrounding mrt stations that divert the crowd for example Bencoolen and Dhoby Ghaut mrt stations
What about the top 10 most used stations?
Sg population increasing from foreigners so in the next 10 years or so, the usage of these stations will increase drastically
Very educated video!👍
thank you!
I thought The North East Line stations will be in the video but I was shocked that no stations from the NEL was in the video
Well the TE line was quite new and it serve only the northern part of singapore and it wasnt completed with its extension to marine parade area so i think thats why the ridership is still quite low😅
Haw par villa should also be on this list because it only serves Hwa par villa
Nope actually I seen many people transfer there to/from buses to NUS Biz school, Clementi (the parts west of AYE) & S'pore Science Pk 2
legend la congrats on blowing up 😂
xiexie!!
Which software did you use for the voiceover? I am now thinking of seriously purchasing one too.
i used fliki, however it was a free plan with only 5 minutes of talk time/month
(however i js created 4 accs as an alternative to purchasing a paid plan)
@@sbs2828s Thanks! What's best for editing videos these days?
@@sgbuses no problem, to be completely honest here i use capcut on my phone to edit all my videos.
its pretty convenient, without having to import your videos into your computer, and also has a great array of features.
looking forward to seeing your first heavily edited videos :)
This stations best for kid train enthusiast no smrt staff will kick them out
im on shenton way!
How bout Woodlands North or beyond Gul Circle
nice explanations!
thank you for the kind words!
Bendemeer sounded like “Bendemour” lol
Wow facts.
0:17 where is this station
tuas link
@@sbs2828s why is the escalator like this. Station in underground?
nope
@@sbs2828s entrance at level 3?
@@AndroidGBChannelyes the entrance is above the platform level
Well i think the no 1 is ten mile junction (BP13) with at least 10 passengers Daily
the station is closed right now so no passengers
It doesn’t exist anymore so it didn’t get added
Now do the top 10 busiest stations in SG.
My guess: Jurong East, Choa Chu Kang, Yishun, Serangoon, Bishan, Sengkang, Outram Park, Little India, Bugis and Tampines East
Raffles place?
@@SGrailadventure2004 Dhoby Ghaut
Dhoby Ghaut
This is why in kl, we will revise the the line that we're gonna build and will shelved up the stations that we thinks gonna be the least used in every lines
Why KL need MRT ? Proton sage only cost 34800 ringgit. I rather buy car
@@tankman20064 to ease the traffic congestion lor
What about Chinese Garden?
Interesting! You mentioned at the start of the video that you got the data from LTA's Datamall. Which specific dataset did you use to get this list of least used stations?
if im not wrong it was the tap in tap out values for mrt stations
@@sbs2828s do you have a link to the dataset you used?
I used Cashew everyday for 2 years in secondary school
I bet Springleaf's main users are from the nearby Nee Soon Camp
Note: may change during a disruption.
i decided to not take this into account as disruptions are anomalies
who else saw a man dancing at napier
I was expecting Tuas Link lol
I was expecting Tuas west road, Woodleigh and Marina south. I don't think that Tuas link station is the least used because there are still people who travel there to view the sunset near Raffles Marina Light house.
@@shaneethan523 woodleigh has some traffic since its not like last time
The Tuas extension stations are quite heavily used by the workers in the Tuas industrial area.
It seems that many stations on list are TEL
But doesn’t Botanic Gardens have its own mrt
napier is more convenient for tourists as they usually enter from the southern side (near orchard)
Inspired by Geoff Marshall.
not really, but i definitely got a bit of inspiration from his videos!
I love his videos
With many new BTO projects coming 🆙. . . Think 🔜 there’ll be even more new MRT Stations coming out😅😅
Woodleigh has left the chat
how did you get this dataset?
