Making a aquascape using garden soil having a great fun. The plants grows slow but its works well. If you use Co2 for this setup the plants grows amazing.
plants used:
Sagittaria subulata
Dwarf Hairgrass
Vallisneria spiralis
Hydrilla
Green Cabomba
Amazon sword
Cryptocoryne x willisii
Dwarf aquarium lily( Nymphia stellata)
Pearl weed

Do i have to put the river gravel?
It depends on you...
You can also use artificial sand or gravel that are available in nearest pet store.
Can I layer active charcoal on my tank?
It will harm your fishes.

Yes of course. But the problem with vermicast is...after filling water bubbles are coming continously...
So in order to minimize the bubble problem use mesh strainer for soil.
