Well done clip. Two points - 1) I don't leave the speaker hanging on the second cable. The connector is a two-tab that is easy to disconnect so the speaker can be completely removed. 2) the zip tie on the regulator transmission can/should be left in place until you are ready to push the three stays through the door panel. If the spool pops out, the cable will spring out and getting it rewound properly is a MAJOR effort that most likely will cause problems and reduce reliability.
Excellent tutorial! I successfully replaced the passenger side regulator on an 05 A4 by carefully following these steps. Plenty of WTF moments where I had to race back to the video and re-watch the technique. For those attempting this repair, don't just watch once and 'go for it'. Instead, have your phone handy, watch and pause the video, take a few pictures of your setup, and take breaks when things seem stuck or needing more force than expected. A lot of subtlety in the 1A mechanic's methods. What he's done dozens of times and can edit down to 20 minutes is an indication of skill and practice. My project rang in closer to 4.5 hours, with some +/- on diagnosis and chasing down tools. And no, I didn't use the steak knife option :-D Thanks, @1A Auto!
Love how they designed these regulator pulleys with zero housing capture so they just pop right out. Had BOTH front regulator wires slip out of the pulley within a week of eachother, because either the last person who changed the factory ones out installed it wrong, or more likely its engineered to fail from the cable not having any real way of staying seated. The cables just run off out the top of the pulley and unspool inside the door. Superb engineering.
I'll be doing this in the next few days - waiting for the regulator and a T45 to arrive. I'll be watching this again, but have to say, watching an expert at work is so satisfying
I really like how the get to the point and tell you what you need and why. Also I like the fact that the instructor is not overly excited about everything. Kudos

Thank you guys!!! I got stuck halfway through removal because I couldn't find the fourth T-45 bolt hiding in the side of the door. Thanks to this video, I was able to finish the job!!! Thanks!
+Maxwell Sarosdy Thanks for watching. We carry the replacement part shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them, if any of our viewers needs to make this repair www.1aauto.com/audi-a4-rs4-s4-window-regulator-front-driver-side/i/1awrg01348?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&Xra6Fqd5ffs
I like a straightforward video. Thanks. A couple of comments: Some of the replacement lifts will have different screw sizes for the lower mount. The replacements I purchased fit well and work equally well. The rear rail for left and right both have M6 rather than M5 fasteners. I also found that the zip tie to secure the drum/pulley can be left in place until just before snapping the (blue) housing into place inside the door. It can be cut and pulled out before seating the housing to lessen the chance of it falling out causing the cable to unwind.
Absolutely perfect! I've been meaning to do this to my boyfriend's car as a surprise for xmas! Only critique would be to fit the window in the frame, then install the new regulator and that allows you to leave the zip tie on the wheel until it's been popped back into the door frame. Thank you for listing all your tool sizes.
Replaced it and works perfectly - thanks to you guys! TIP - remove the zip-tie from the white plastic wheel just before you bolt it back to the door. That saved some potential hassle. Great videos, 1A Auto.
MAn this is the best place for your Audi.... By these guys I have Changed out: 1.) Front Driver Window Panel Switch 2.) Front Passenger Window Regular 3.) Checked my Heater Core 4.) Changed my Thermostat
Thank you so much, just finished replacing mine (passenger side), very clear instructions. Minor note - that yellow thing (sensor?) - you can easily disconnect it (no need to take off). Thanks again!!

For anyone that the cog comes out, an easy way to get it back in is hook the cable around the fish shape part of the pulley, reassemble the cog and then use the fish shaped tool in the pulley (with long nose pliers opened up like a key) to pull it back on the runner, turning the opposing way you’ve hooked it You’re welcome 😉
Take off the weatherstrip from the top, not the bottom. Also, do not remove the ziptie on the wheel until it is firmly in place in the door. Much safer to remove the zip tie then.
Thank you, great video. I only wish I had read the comments first about removing the weather stripping from the top rather than the bottom, I broke 75% of those little clips (old car, brittle plastic). I broke two door panel clips, too. But my driver side window works again! The only problem now seems to be the two rear windows. The driver side rear window has a slight stutter and the passenger side rear stopped working, but they were working before. Any idea what I may have done during the replacement that could have affected the rear windows?
My passenger-side window struggled to move when the car was frosted over. Now it works pretty well, but it doesn't go all the way down, it pokes up by about 7mm. Sometimes it gets itself confused as well, and doesn't go up and down with the 3 other windows when you use the large button. Bit annoying, but it's a 2006 car and I discover something to fix, every other day.

Very helpful video. But no reason to remove the ziptie on the blue transmissin before you put the frame back in the door. Can cut the ziptie through the hole in the door.
I have done this a couple times and the biggest thing I can recommend is to use a small nut/bolt with washers big enough to hold the transmission wheel in the transmission. This will let you cycle the window up and down in the track to make sure its aligned without having to worry about the wheel popping out. once the transmission is secure in the door then you can remove the nult/bolt/washers and install the motor. This will eliminate any chance of the cable wheel coming out and making a mess.
I just changed mine today. It took me near 3 hours. I would of not done it without this video. The regulator i got from 1a Auto was slightly different from original. It had one bolt attached to it. I didn’t see it until i had the door back on. I had to take it back out and remove the bolt.
Both front windows on my A4 B6 have stopped raising or lowering. I've had to pack rubber strips in between the glass and seals to keep them up, and the rain out. Is that the regulator failing that's causing that? Thanks for your time in advance, your video's have helped me on a few fixes! Kudos!
+David Antony Reid Typically anything that goes wrong with the movement of the window will be traced back to an issue with the regulator. You would want to get into the door and inspect it to eliminate any other possibilities. Hope this helps! 1AAuto.com
*Doesn't give a good forewarning about transmission wheel* *Says he'll get back to it if the wheel pops out of the transmission* *proceeds to go throughout the rest of the video not mentioning this issue at all* very helpful, guy.
If the drivers window will go down but not up (all other windows work fine) can I just switch the motor out to fix the issue? Would it be ok to reconnect the battery temporarily to test and see if the window works?
+KB You could try switching out the window motor but the whole window regulator assembly may need to be replaced. Yes, you can reconnect the battery to see if it works.
Update: This was great advice, I will get busy changing the regulator. I tried switching the motor and was able to get the window to go back up but the problem still existed. Appreciate all your insight as I will be following this video to switch the regulator Ps: I always watch DIYs but never comment..thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with me
