Getting Dressed in the 16th century | Dutch "Cheese Lady" Costume

- Let's get dressed! In a 16th century Dutch Renaissance costume. I have affectionately nicknamed this costume the "cheese lady" dress due to the fact that some of the period portraits show ladies holding large blocks of cheese (yum!). This costume is based on a series of portraits from the late 1500s depicting ladies of North Holland. I had a lot of fun interpreting these images and experimenting with the outfit!

That kirtle is so wonderful! All of the little details really bring the project together.
Thank you so much!! I love adding all those details!
Groetjes uit Nederland😁🤪🥰🤗
The red kirdle is amazing. Would love a tutorial on a side lacing version like this.
Thank you so much! I'll definitely consider developing a full tutorial for that type of dress.
I love this! Thank you so much.
hello I am a Dutch woman getting into historical clothing and I have been focusing on English clothes but recently I have developed an interest in the historical clothes of my own country and I love you video's and I was wondering if you had some pointers for looking for information because all my searching led me nowhere.
Wow! This is the worst You Tube has done! A month off in notifying this video's post! THIS IS SOO GORGEOUS!!!!
Ugh how DARE they??? Also thank you so much! I literally laughed with adoration when I read your comment, it's so charming! That algorithm doesn't always know what's best for us.
Thank you so much for this, I luv the Dutch Golden Age. I hope you have the chance to do a Judith Jans Leyster outfit.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The Dutch Golden Age is fantastic, and what a wonderful idea!
Great video, thank you. I really love the Dutch cheese girl look!
Thank you so much, and so glad you enjoyed it! I think this look is super cool!
DAISY. STAHP MAKING ME WANT TO MAKE LOW COUNTRIES CLOTHING
NOOOOO I SHALL NOT STOP!!!
The historic layering per culture and climate is astonishing to me! I run naturally cold so as a young girl I have took inspiration from history and it’s amazing what it does to preserve body heat and keeps full body movement/functionality wide open!
Layering is so perfect for that! I think it's so awesome to take inspiration from history - they definitely figured some things out before us!
Daisy you are beautiful lady OMG.
That is stunning and adorable! 🥰
I love your caps. It is a very cute look.
Wow... that took some research to piece together all the components and they are all done so beautifully!
Thank you so much! It was a super fun project!
Pretty😊
Gorgeous
I want to make 14th and 15th sentry dresses to wear. They look so comfy and cozy! I want to make a kirtle so bad. I'm afraid of cutting this linen though....lol
DUTCH CHEESE LADY DRESS IS BEST NAME!!
YESSSS I LOVE IT!!!
love that kirtle, i hope i'll get to that level like ever!
Aw you are so sweet! Thank you, and I'm so glad you like it! Also, I believe in you to reach ANY level you want.
For your historical dresses, particularly kirtles, do you wear a modern bra? I know that many people don’t, and I’m trying to build my own Tudor kirtle.
I build the dresses so that I don't need one! It's ok to wear one if you want - a few times I've changed size and put on a bra for more support for that particular instance. If you make the kirtle - or any under layer - supportive, then it can be even more comfortable than a bra. I definitely prefer it that way!
