In the past, the court jester was allowed to mock the king as a way of reminding him that he was a human. They frequently pointed out things nobody else would dare. Done as a joke made it less painful.
There were also women jesters. One, in France, was once told by a rich lady that she would not have a fool walking on her right side. So she immediately ran to her other other side, putting the lady on her right. "I don't have a problem with it!" And didn't get in trouble for it 😂
After the jester gravely offended the king, the king said “how would you like to die fool?” The jester replied “of old age”, the king burst into laughter and let the jester go about his daily toilings.

This is so true! I’m so glad there are still comics out there willing to tell real funny jokes that most of the world just won’t anymore. Hopefully it’ll eventually inspire newer people to keep that kind of comedy alive.
It may be the greatest insult to think they can’t handle criticism or playful mockery but in reality, these people can’t handle any of that because they’re weak.

My question would be: "what doss Hollywood gain from avoiding insulting people?". It thrived when insult comedy was a huge thing. What do you gain by censoring it? Honest question.
What's really funny is Jerry is the clean comic - he didn't swear, he didn't to any of the stuff that a lot of others did to get a laugh, he was someone the whole family could watch. And became rich doing that. When he tells you that comedy sucks today became everyone is afraid of offending someone, that's means something.

In the 70s we had shows like MASH, SNL, Little House On The Prairie, Sanford And Son, Columbo, etc. When Mash ended in 83, I knew it was the end of the golden era of tv. How we got Dr Quinn Medicine Woman in 1993 and Cheers in 1982 seems like a miracle. I don't think much of Seinfeld and Friends to be honest.
I remember seeing a youtube video where younger people were reacting to Seinfeld clips and one woman in particular was getting offended by the jokes, and even a couple others were all like ‘woah easy there’ with some of the jokes. It’s pretty sad. Seinfeld is one of my favourite sitcoms mostly because you can tell the producers didn’t care about potentially offending anyone. It was all for comedy.
Comedy is so important and comedians are the greatest source of honest truth when they are being honest. They need to worry less about offending, and focus on not doing offensive things. That’s the difference.
Being at an all boys boarding school and later bible camp, funny skits at the expense of leadership is an incredible way of bringing solidarity with your fellow students/campers. Brett you are correct it’s been apart of civilization forever.

Liberals take themselves too seriously to have a sense of humor. They'd rather complain about being offended or how a joke's offensive than appreciate comedy.
Agree, but I would also say that people have lost the art of how to read the crowd, tell a joke, and be okay if it doesn't land. Most people state their opinion in a serious way and then don't know what to do when people don't laugh or agree. So they say it was all a joke and they can't understand why the other person can't take a joke. That's a narcissistic trait, putting the blame on someone else for your fault.
