- Finding problems on my Porsche 924S and making a plan going forward! This is episode 2 of this series so be sure to check out EP1 below if you haven't seen it already. The 924 is still an unfamiliar car to me with having no service history on it so in this video I work to sort out some problems such as a fuel smell, diagnose a driveline clunk, remove some wiring, check fasteners, and even change the transaxle fluid.
The next video is weighting this car before we start the modifications!

Good to see you caught the loose bolts and coupler bolt issue. I am disappointed I didn't keep one of the 944's I had a few years back. Looking at them now and they have went up in price.
Yeah I've been watching prices for years and felt I had to pull the trigger on this one as it seemed really fair for its condition. Very happy with it
Those tubes in the beginning are the sunroof drain and the fuel filler area drain - designed to keep water from pooling in the sunroof channel and the low spot near the fuel cap. Make sure you unclog those drains or you will get water in the car. weed wacker cable works good. Also probably going to need new sunroof seals. Also, replace the rear hatch seal and taillight seals if you smell any exhaust fumes.
It needs many things like seals yes but the goal is making it drive well first. Coupling that hose sure did fix my fuel smell though..
@@tangentsbhb Yeah, you'll find that these cars need a lot. You won't have any problem with creating content. LOL. Once you get it running well, you can LS swap it for some real fun. I'm probably going to do that to my 944. LS1 will 2.5x the horsepower and keep 50/50 weight balance.
I plan to do a swap but not an LS. I have a plan for something that hasn't been done yet which I'm very excited about
@@tangentsbhb Awesome! 👌
I'm hoping it's some kind of VW engine; 2.0 TSI or supercharged VR6. The electronics would be a chore but the TSI has literally a table flat torque curve from like 1800 rpm. It would pair well with the lightweight 924, be a nicely balanced package.@@tangentsbhb
The white color actually looks good on this car 👍.
Im thinking about getting an 924S. Looks more aero than the 944..
It actually has a higher top speed than the 944 due to that ever so slight aero improvement!
Yep, looks like a fun ride. Cool car.
Very fun. I got to give it a good shakedown drive today
Bodys were galvanized. Porsche clutch discs did not have springs to ease engagement, it was a rubber cush set uo and when the rubber wore out there would be a little bit of free play to give it a wee clunk... Again from my 944 Porsche
Indeed
That is one clean 924. Back in the day, the 924 suffered from the same reputation as the Harley- Davidson Sportster and the Mazda Miata, being dismissed by the "faithful" as "made for girls". The snobs in any body of enthusiasts always make me laugh, never mind that there are some pretty kick-ass car girls out there.
I've always considered the 928 to be the German Corvette and the 944 to be the German Camaro, so the 924 could be the considered the German Gen 1 Camaro. Nothing wrong with that, eh?
Agreed there are snobs that ruin every segment of vehicles. I couldn't care less what others consider a car as my focus is always on what it does, or how it feels, etc.
So happy to be here watching, feels like we're back on the Brickhouse tinkering
Good to see you with new Chanel 😁
Thank ya!
Porsche has such a sense of style..i see why there are diehard believers..from Angus to you..
I've been a Porsche fan for a long time. They have been inpactful on me
It has an oil cooler that uses the engine water/glycol. If the gasket leaks you will have milk shake oil. It’s a good idea to replace that gasket before it fails.
Good tip
Exactly what i need to do with the m3. Go through and start cleaning and sorting through. Plan is similar to get it back to stock running and looking good
Nice! I'm super excited to see it!
Nice content. Your projects are Everyman projects that I could see myself doing. Great inspiration.
Glad you enjoyed!
Hi Bj! Hey, get the torque tube bearings 😊my dad owned a 124, never had any transmission whine.
Definitely considering it. It requires removing more of the suspension which im not excited about
Always loved the telephone dial wheels on these.
Same here
It would be pretty cool to find either a Porsche 928, or an FC RX-7 convertible, I'm still too broke to afford either one. Lol
Thats a big part of why I jumped on this one is that they keep going up in price. This was still fair. Some 928s are still reasonable too
And with passive four wheel steering. Let me tell you, it works.@@tangentsbhb
I might go for a crappy looking one and restore it, just hope it's not rusted out. Lol
The grease Porsche uses in the steering column will "stiffen" up quite a bit and interfere with the switch functions...Like turn on a turn signal and the wipers come on... I had a 944 with the same issues you have ... Just part of being a Porsche owner!! 🙂
Good to know!
Hi buddy hope you ar ok
Doing great
Hi BJ I thought the scratching sound was your wallet rattling around now there is space in it after spending it all on TM fluid lol 😉😂😂 nice car mate and in really good condition this thing will be mint by the time your done with it good job buddy as always 👍👌🔧🔧🔧❤️
Hahahaha it still pains me to know I bought the stuff!
@@tangentsbhb at least you know it’s got good fluid in it now mate and that’s what counts I had a mark 1 escort with an r/s 2000 engine in it ,man loved that car wish I never sold it would be worth about 30 grand now maybe more always put the best on it or in it never ever let me down 👍👌
Sounds weird, but there's a growing number of people who are using Type II ATF in manual transmissions, and swear that wear isn't accelerated and it makes for smoother and quicker shifting.
The Porsche crowd are very picky with their oils to say the least
Do you have any bikes you are going to do a restoration on?
I post tons of bike content on my main page @brickhousebuilds I currently have a Honda CBX restoration underway
They are not a cheap car to own. But I guess you knew that already?
They aren't extravagantly expensive either. Nothing like an aircooled Porsche or modern sportscar. Pricing seems to fall in line with what I expected.
Those big round side lights look horrible, need to remove them
It's on the list
I guess they are probably there for a specific reason? Isn't removing them the same as asking for a fine over at your area?
The bumpers and side markers are to meet US specs to qualify for import. The euro cars are much more sleek looking in general
Come on bro. 23min fluid add. 😂
If this was a fluid ad I am the worst rep imaginable
