We have to make some corrections here. When you talk about king of the funk O'Brien don't come into mine, it's George Clinton, the funkdelics. Our brother's a great singer. I watched him back in the soldiering days. I knows history. He's a great performer. He's a great singer and I can see. He plays a keyboard, but it's no match for Joyce Clinton. And there's another funk band that grip very good, so it's hard to make him the king when I've heard some great funk music so I would. N't, I wouldn't go as far as called him the king? No, he's not the king when we're talking about the king. We talk about choice Clinton, that's the king. We're talking about Roger Troutman. So we told us some heavy weights, buddy. So I wouldn't put him that far. But he's a great keyboard, as I can see, I never knew he played keyboards so I saw this video but I know he's a great singer too bad. He's not around anymore. Who did they don't make him not be a great singer. But what he did record was nice stuff. I admired it but he's not the king of Fuck sorry
I remember seeing him in 1985, with The System & Cameo. Good times that I remember fondly. The 60's, 70's and 80's were amazing times to experience the musical artistry of Black America.
O’Bryan- Writer, arranger, producer, vocalist, musician, etc. This cat was a major talent and gifted human being. There’s no way his name shouldn’t be mentioned when speaking about Prince, MJ and even Stevie Wonder when it comes to sheer talent🏆 2024 and I have a bunch of his tracks on my playlist🎼🎶🎵
@@my2cents361 I know he’s extremely talented. His last lp is really good also, after he hadn’t made music (4 the public) in awhile. It’s just the artist that were named r at the very top of the pyramid, especially Prince and Stevie bcuz they have a huge catalog and they wrote and produced all of their own material and did the same 4 others.
@@HoopCITY76 I don’t know for sure but I can’t help thinking that there were some extenuating circumstances that kept him from blowing up the way he should have🤷🏾
Now, THIS is what real music sounded like back in the early Eighties. Classic dance groove that shook booties in the club. O’Bryan was more known for his slow jams. But, he proved he could lay da phat Funk down. Great memory of a forgotten artist.
My friends and I saw him at the Blue Note in NYC. Then at the Copacabana the same night. He is very nice very humble. He signed autographs and chatted with us a while. Beautiful person. ❤
During the 1980’s I played guitar in a few bands in the Bay Area!,..one night!,.. me!,..and some friends drove to a Vallejo club to see a band!,… once we got in the club the first thing we noticed was the guitar player!,…he was next level good!,..I asked around!,…for his name!,…and a member of the band said Romey! I think he also played for Jesse Johnson!
I am such a fan of O'Bryan! What is he doing with himself now I wonder because when they make it big, you never see them again. He was very talented. This is one of my favorite songs from him.
I was in a LA club that had a light at each table. Where you had access to a beautiful girl that her love light was on for you. Real lamp lights. What a time that was. Sometimes day came to find you still in the club. O'Brien knew about that.
Another founding member of my favorite group of all time, The Jackson 5ive/The Jackson’s has passed away . My condolences to Tito Jackson’s family, friends and life long fans like myself !!
Just a Wonderful Dinger song writer producer Angela year ago i took my 3 Daughters to see her And Rochelle Ferrell saw Rochelle who did great But Missed Angela her plane was late it was a weekday my Girls who were young had school the next day they still had a great time
A lot of people are so wrapped up in MJ & Prince these days, they forget we played other folks like this dude. Funky, did the theme song for Soul Train, made me wanna be a Gigolo and bac then it was fun to be a "Freak" (which means lively, party animal, like the dance "The Freak").
Stop telling that ladder, this boy is the king of funk. You are telling a d*** lie, he's good, and he's got a great voice, I remember him being on solitary, but he's not the king of funk that's Joyce Clinton, the funk of delics. Nobody cannot do the funk. That's fact all these young cats learn to listen to funkadelicious. Joyce clinton so stop telling the king of funk
Young people this is real music and I am glad I grew up listening to this
Real Music? Give me a break. This is the stuff we were complaining about back then.
@saj8 so why you here then lol gtfo
Still bumpin this in 2023 and beyond!!
He was just In Oakland Ca and was ROCKIN!!! This dude is legendary and don’t really get all the props he should.

He was brilliant but do u think his catalog can stand up 2 the artists u named as far as volume of work?
@@3MUniqueI think what he’s suggesting is O’Bryan’s catalog should be just as extensive. But we’re all dealt a different hand.
@@3MUnique Nah their catalogs are in a league of their own but he is clearly on the same talent level in my opinion. He has stage presence as well.

Love O. Sounds like he had a cold (congestion) when he recorded this - that's OK. STILL all the way live.

He’s still out there doing it. You can find videos right on UA-cam of pretty recent performances.
Yes, O'Brien, another, I'm a rated artist. I would love to see him in concert🎉🎉🎉🎉
Kids on a Detroit tv dance show used to be jamming off of this back in day.
The Scene
I used to be jealous of this dude😅- I was 16 dating an older woman and she loved ole boy.. the memories; I couldn’t hate on his music though
