- The A129 is a full-featured camera with all the bells and whistles, while keeping prices low compared to the other cameras in its class.
We go through some setup and tips, and a general installation (Although this is specifically on a 2019 Acura RDX A-Spec), including the hardwiring portion. The installation techniques in this video is applicable to most, if not all vehicles!

Tip: Before mounting the camera check that windscreen wiper blades do indeed reach that spot so its always clean.

I don't have the kit yet, I ordered the duo camera camera kit and optional harness for my Camry Hybrid a week ago from Amazon. I have a couple questions. The circuit tester, what brand did you use? Also, did you disconnect the car battery at any point and did you use a circuit keep alive plug in as to not lose any settings? Thanx
The wiring that I received for Viofo had it marked Battery (red wire), ACC (yellow), and ground (black). The red is connected directly to the battery. My question is would that require some kind of in-line fuse to be connected to the red wire and the battery?
What size fuse go in wire taps ? One is original and what about the other ? What amp is it ?

If my vehicle has an DC outlet that has power even with ignition off, can I use parking mode in this model without the hardwire kit and just use the included power supply? I ask because my model car does not have internal fuse box, everything is in the engine bay.
I have bought a hardware kit to make the camera work while the car is off and make it a recording while in motion only, but I want to make it work like a normal dash cam while the vehicle is moving. How do I switch between the two modes?
The orientation of the fuse takeoff matters. The +12V supply from the fuse box terminals is intended to be on the fuse terminal furthest away from the wire on the takeoff. That will feed 12V from the fuse box to both fuses. If you reverse the takeoff, then the original fuse is feeding both the original circuit in the car and the dash cam (through the second fuse in the takeoff adapter).
That increases the current through the original fuse, which is fine in most cases.
Hey! If i don't want to use the parking mode, is it enough to connect ONLY the ACC wire?
When you put the original fuse near the prongs, what fuse type do you put in the other fuse port near cable? You did not cover this. Should I put in a 3A, 5A, 10A? Missing vital information. Please advise thanks
Nice video, question can I ask the best method of hiding the wire, i wired the rear dash cam and have about 4 ft of wire left over,, do i just tuk it all under the roof panel or do i cut and solder it ?

Hello everyone and DASHOTO, I'm looking to hardwire my dash cam on the 2022 Acura MDX, I just wanna make sure what type of fuse are those? And what fuse slot are you using? Since this is a 2019 RDX I'm assuming that both cars are typically the same. I tried looking at the manual and online and could not find the answer. Thank you!
If I don't want to use parking mode can I simply not hook up the RED/battery wire and just go with YELLOW/acc and ground??

I have a few questions. Why the camera is mounted on the passenger side? And I received two plastic films looking like screen protectors with my dashcam. As far as I understood thet are placed where the camera is mounted to reduce glare. Is it correct?

I do this as well. Not sure for his reasoning but I do it because it creates a blind spot and the lane departure box hides it well from my seat. Another reason is the brightness of the screen killing me at night.
2 years late but it's probably to prevent having a blind spot. Dashcam is small but you want to maximize your field of view so even something as small as this can be in the way. Your rear view mirror creates a small blind spot as well, which is where you should put your dashcam, that's why it's on the passenger's side

Hi, nice review. If the dash cam detected an incident during parking mode. How does it notify you when you've returned to your car?
It actually does not notify you; but it will have a locked recording if there was an impact. Otherwise, all motion recordings are going to be overwritten eventually.
Definitely recommend checking the vehicle for any damage before driving off!

I just hardwired my dash cam but it doesn’t stay on in parking mode. What fuses are the Dashoto fuses? I used 7.5A fuses with my fuse taps.
Sounds likebyour bartery is dropping below the set voltage setting on the wiring kit; or you wired into a system that cuts power after a set amount of time that the vehicle is off and locked.
As I hear the explanation on your video about the hardwiring kit, as I purchased the A129 Duo is it right to say if I am using the parking mode and mine have the GPS dock for the front camera if I plug the cable on top (GPS) it won’t work for parking mode and I have to plug on the side (and lose GPS function)? You won't lose GPS function when plugged into the side of the unit
The GPS will still be powered, and you'll have both parking mode and GPS
I think they changed this on new units Vortex radar (youtube) says you can use either power port now, and have parking mode.
I want to use 2 spare fuse slots both have a 10amp fuse, I already tested and one is constant for the battery cable and one not for the accy but my fuse tap kit came with only 10 or 20 amp. Is it ok to use the 10 amp since nothing else is connected to the spares or should I buy 5amp?
It will be fine to use the 10A. The camera itself really only draws about 2A. The 10A fuse that's there will still be good for protecting against short circuits.
I purchased an installation kit that didn't come with the attachments you had. I had to purchase a fuse tap myself. Also, my Door fuse and ACC are both constant 12V and are 15A, would it matter if my fuse tap is 10A and can i use both of those for the Dashcam? Another thing, mine didn't come with the extra fuse yours has just incase something were to happen. Where can i purchase those and what are they called?
You really should have purchased our kit then ;)
It's perfectly fine if you use the 10A fuse tap. That being said, 10A is a bit high but it'll still protect against short circuit scenarios.
For extra fuses, you can purchase those from any local auto store, they're pretty common
I really wish I had one of these earlier today as I just witnessed a hit and run and couldn't even tell the police the make and model of the car that was right in front of me. At least I'll have it for next time.

The hardwire kit actually has a cut-off built in, as long as it's installed correctly. You can set the voltage cutoff to your preference-- no battery issues here.
I have a question, I just set up my VIOFO A129 Duo with the hardwiring kit and was wondering if the power light stays on (on the cam) when in parking mode (when the vehicle is off) or does it go off or does the camera wake up once it notices movement outside the vehicle. Please let me know. Thanks.

Hey I'm attempting to do this as well. Question regarding the grounding bolt, did you disconnect the negative terminal on your battery before doing this or just removed it with nothing else done beforehand? Would this affect anything on the RDX?
No need, just make sure you hook the camera up after you've connected all the cables and checked they are correct.
I enjoyed this thorough review! 👍I picked this up last week and love it. Would you know if its possible to leave the screen always on while driving? Its still recording but the screen shuts off on its own after like 20-30 secs. I couldnt find any options in the settings. Thanks for the great review! 💯
Yup! You should actually see it under the screen saver setting near the bottom of the list, just turn it off
I love the video I see that you only connect the accessory cable (yellow cable) and not the battery cable( Red) is that not needed to be connected? Just want to clarify before buying it.
At 3:04 he talks about constant 12V and ACC. After this he demonstrates how to use bullet connectors from his kit. You can buy separate taps from Amazon. You need to connect all 3 to work. For my application I will put ACC (yellow) to Audio/Nav, Battery (red) to door lock so I can enable the Park function. Also plug the USB power cable to the CAMERA and not the base unit. HTH
My fuse taps did not come with any fuses. Is there a standard amperage for a fuse for dashcams. I keep running into 5A but I want to be sure. Thank you.
I am using 7.5A for the dash cam power leads. You can likely use 5A, but I wanted a bit more safety margin.

We do! The dash cameras on the website should have a drop down with the addition of "hardwire kit + installation kit". This option only charges for the hardwire kit, but the installation kit is still included free
So basically as long as you're getting a hardwire kit, you'll get it bundled with the installation kit for free

Yes, but you'll need the optional AV out cable from VIOFO, which is a bit hard to find nowadays. It's a standard 3.5mm cable if that helps.

No, it provides constant supply of power and protects your vehicle from potential battery drain. There will be a voltage cut-off value for you to set when installing the hardwire kit.

I guess the battery cutoff means that parking mode will deactivate, and it won't record once the battery reaches the cutoff?
That's correct! This is a safety feature so the camera does not run the vehicle battery too low

They enter a "standby mode" to wait for motion, and when motion is detected, it will start recording again.

This outfit sells piggyback Fuse holders, way slick Idea...........I ran from camera, under the windshield rubber under to the door post trim, passenger side and under the dash right into the fuse box driver side ..........Now If I can get a 2 minute loop going only when the ignition is on, engine running only, life well be good...........

Only have to do this if you want the parking mode. If not, then you can use the cigarette lighter and hide the cable.

Is a real piece of shit - going defect
Viofo dash cam is last sh*t - I had two and both are defect after no a year (one after 6 month). Front camera doesn't work, rear camera records only in black/white, no upgrade is possible... For such one poor quality it's too expensive, actually it's a no go for anywhere priced products. Especially there is no support from Viofo team!
I defenitly don't recommend this Product (and manufacturer)!

I am wondering why it seems we are stuck with seemingly only two choices: wire our dash cam to the car battery, or buy an expensive external battery.
1.) Could a battery used by off-grid/camper van enthusiasts be a good choice to run a dash cam, e.g., the Yeti or the Jackery?
2.) CURIOUS: How does the dash cam know when to engage Parking Mode if it is powered from an external battery, e.g., the Viofo A129 Pro Duo plugged into the Cellink Neo? Or is that functionality lost with the Cellink Neo and the like?
If the dash cam is not connected to the car's ignition at all, it will not be able to use parking mode.
