    In this episode we review the Viofo A129 Pro Duo, which is one of the BEST 4K dashcams, according to the reputable portal Dashcamtalk.com
    Let’s take a look at the unboxing - Quality feels superb, and that increased my hopes that I might have actually found an alternative to my current favorite dashcam - the Blackvue dr900s, to which we will do some comparison later on. Viofo are great by providing a dual-USB charger - which can give you the fascinating 3.1A in total.
    Some specs: 130-degree optics with F/1.8 aperture. Main unit is using the Sony Exmor IMX317 sensor, capable of 4K output, and data is processed by a more powerful version of a novatek CPU. The rear module has a Sony Starvis sensor - which is known for its excellent low light performance.
    The A129 Pro Duo supports also dual-band Wifi, a supercapacitor instead of a battery and GPS module - acting as a mount. And since the chipset is modified - it does support h.265 encoding, allowing to keep the recorded files at reasonable size.
    Let’s take a look at the menus - which are showing a lot of good features to use; I usually stick to the defaults and this is what we are going to do this time as well. You will probably be excited to see that there is support for 1440p at 60FPS, and Full HD up to 120 frames per second - and the dashcams that can do that are very, very few! The parking mode has options to configure - either 24/7 at 1 or 2 frames per second - meaning time lapse, or using motion detection.
    For the installation - things are rather easy: for the front module - find a good spot at the windshield. Consider the fact that the body is not too small, so make sure it won’t disturb you while driving; aiming at the area behind the rearview mirror is usually a good idea.
    The rear module is also easy to install - I only had the challenge to hide the rather thick cable, but eventually it was all happy end, and is very discrete solution
    The only condition where you will see quality degradation is when the sun is directly reaching the lens; But even in that condition, the A129 Pro Duo does well. With 4K the amount of details visible is much higher than usually, and also - thanks to the high bitrate, you will need an SD card which is as large as possible.
    And since you’ve seen enough about the footage - what is your opinion? Isn’t that a great dashcam? Is 4K resolution worth paying extra $ 80on top of the non-pro model? I think we already are seeing the transition to 4K in dashcams , and in 2020 we will certainly see more options;

    I use this dashcam for my channel where I showcase roads and drives in my home country of Australia, and I've always been very impressed by the footage quality. The only issue I've had was with the dashcam overheating and occasionally skipping 3 seconds of footage, which can be rectified by blowing cold aircon onto the windscreen when filming. Otherwise, I have no complaints with the camera!

    Had mine 18+ months and am very happy with it. GPS failed at about 8 months, not the mount but within the camera and was replaced under guarantee. Running that thick cable to rear of car is challenging but not impossible. Would recommend. Great for proving a third party fault incident… wouldn’t be without this camera now.

    Thanks for your video. This is the only dual dashcam I found affordable so far with good quality. I do have 2 questions before I buy for my first car:
    1: Does it keep recording of some 20-30 sec clip before the impact along ? if yes do I need to connect directly with battery or Car charger?
    2: You showed a hardwire cable. Is it for 24*7 recording? I only need in case of crash or theft movement. Which cable to be used with what settings? Unfortunately can't test this feature.

    4:34. Each of these modes has its pros and cons. But, we can't be bothered to discuss those. Yet another review that is little more than a read through the published spec sheet. Good to show the actual video. But, glossing over the setup and failing to discuss any of those trade-offs is a huge miss. In fact, later, when you note the picture issues of overexposure (7:11) ... maybe some of those settings you ignored would address?

When I go into reverse, I can see the rear cam footage in my rearview mirror that it came with. DO you think that the tech installer will tell me that he can't connect this rear cam in addition to the backup cam already installed, due to the number or locations to connect the power to? Hi,
    I’ve been watching your videos for some time now, and I decided to buy my first dash cam (Viofo A129 Pro Duo).
    After using the dash cam for 3 weeks, and reviewing my test footage I have a question.
    What are the Pros & Cons of 4K30fps vs. 2K60fps, (when filming with a dash cam at daytime, and night time)?
    I asked because, when I review my test footage, and pause a video to read road signs, or license plates, I can’t tell the difference between 4K30fps, or 2K60fps.
    However, when I watch the video on playback, the 2K60fps is more appealing to my eyes. I also noticed the file sizes are almost identical between the two.
    I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this subject.

      Hey Chuck, that's an awesome question!
      And what you describe - that you find the 60p smoother, is exactly as it is supposed to be.
      In the camera world there's this thing called "shutter speed" - shich is nowadays electronically controlled. Ideally - shutter speed should be twice the frame rate. But in such small cameras - it is not, and is much higher. Basically - this is the time when the shutter remains "opened". If it is opened for too short - the sensor "sees" less details (our eyes work in a similar way).
      So, in 60fps the shutter speed is higher, and sometimes you may get less details. This is more obvious in low light situations, because in daylight the light reaching the sensor is enough.
      Bottomline - during the day - 60FPS will give you better chance to see more details (60 frames per second - meaning 60 very fast shots during that second). In night the 30fps mode should be slightly more detailed.
      Hope this all makes sense.

      Thanks for the reply.
      This makes perfect sense.
      So maybe I should run 4K 30fps at night, and 2K 60 during daylight.
      This helped me a lot.
      Thanks again.

      Yo CC,
      Of course that would be true if both resolutions were recording at the same frame rate, but in this case they're not.

    • @TechMishka
      @TechMishka  Рік тому

      Yeah, this is a screen folio. It adds a layer between the windshield and the adhesive tape on the camera. Makes it much easier to remove, because you peel of the folio and this goes away together with the dashcam. I use this approach since years because saves me a lot of time and efforts - cause I often change dash cameras. And it is 100% safe. it will not make the dashcam mount loose or something.
      Every smartphone screen folio can be used for that purpose.
