Bird strikes are a real threat to aircraft a small bird can ground any aircraft because of the speed the aircraft is going. And they really can break through a windshield and seriously injure or kill a pilot especially in numbers. Plus back then airplanes were mostly made of fabric or very thin metal that can break if it strikes anything while at speed.

The cut that teenage Indy sustained to his chin when he first cracked that whip in the lion’s carriage was put in there to source the real-life scar that Harrison Ford has on his chin.
I also read somewhere that Harrison Ford had a part in River Phoenix playing teenage Indy because he felt that River looked quite a bit like Ford did when he was younger. Sadly Phoenix died in 1993 aged just 23.

4:27 That's River Phoenix, who was actually a pretty big name from the time he was a child as an actor. He also was a musician who did some collaborative work with both Flea and John Frusciante of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. He was really close friends with Keanu Reeves. He tragically died of a drug overdose in 1993. Strange you mention Leonardo DiCaprio, because they met in passing just hours before River died. You've already watched his younger brother, Joaquin Phoenix, perform as Commodus in Gladiator (the main bad guy).

    • @476429
      @476429 2 роки тому +8

Yeah, River Phoenix was a big name. He was a great actor who also had heartthrob appeal. Basically, he was DiCaprio before DiCaprio had made his first movie. He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award at 18 and won Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. His parents were 1960s hippies, and he never attended school. Nor did he have any formal homeschooling.
He died right outside Johhny Depp's club, The Viper Room, on Sunset Blvd. I remember when that happened, it was big news. Kind of like when Heath Ledger died.
It feels strange that we now describe him as Joaquin Phoenix's brother. However, when Joaquin was first starting out, everyone knew him as River Phoenix's brother. Now a lot of people don't even know who River Phoenix is.

You asked 'were tanks not supposed to be accurate?' but these early ones had iron sights for line of fire aiming and were bouncing all over as these tanks had little to no suspension. Also the backfire caused by putting the rock in, while possible if it blocked the projectile, would likely have failed. The backfire was more possible with the moving block breech on the rear of the gun than the interrupted screw type block that replaced them as it was far stronger. As for Indy shooting 4 men with one shot, yes this is very possible. A 9mm bullet in full metal jacket as is used in war according to the Geneva Conventions, travels at about 1600 feet per second right at the muzzle. This can easily punch through 4 bodies in a row which is why police have mostly switched over to semi-jacketed hollow point bullets to protect bystanders. They expand and shed their energy into the first body hit usually while the full metal jacket maintains its shape and much of its velocity and keeps traveling. This is just a basic explanation and is very rough as there are many variables I left out.

    • @ericomartins9794
      @ericomartins9794 2 роки тому +3

Correct, Indy uses a weapon he got from one of the soldiers: a Walther P38 9mm, which would undoubtedly be able to pierce 4 people with ease.
As for the cannon: a firearm is made so that the projectile leaves unhindered. Even if the stone did not completely stop the projectile, its deceleration at the exit of the barrel would transform the cannon into a bomb.

Regarding the plugging of the tank gun with the rock - that *probably* would not work, as the powder charge of a gun that size isn't big enough to create enough pressure to explode the barrel like that when it isn't completely blocked (i.e. there are gaps around the rock for the overpressure to escape). It could possibly work if the gun was firing an explosive shell with an impact fuse (i.e. the shell hits the rock and explodes in the gun barrel).
Actually, trying to shoot the car off the main gun would be more likely to blow up whole turret than the small gun would be to blow up like that from a rock.

So Indy and his father would be immortal if they stayed in the temple to guard the Holy Grail. The knight says, “…the Grail cannot pass beyond the great seal. That is the boundary, and the price, of immortality.” Since they left, they lost that useful upgrade which will be important if you decide to see the fourth one (my vote for that would be no, but you do you Blue).
Also, useless trivia, Sean Connery (who played Henry Jones, Sr.) was the original actor to play James Bond. Bond uses a particular handgun, a specific model made by the German company Walther starting in the early 30s called the PPK. It was standard issue for the German army around the time of this movie, so it’s the gun Donovan uses to shoot Indy’s father near the end of the movie. James Bond, shot with his own gun, a neat detail thrown in by the filmmakers.

Hi Trixy Blue, I'm probably the oldest subscriber you have so I truly hope you appreciate my request & point of view... The best thing about watching peoples reactions (especially your generation) is the how much you actually enjoy our movies so please if you start a series like Indiana Jones, then please watch them all good or bad to complete the series also because they are getting ready to release number 5 in the series soon. Thank you for hearing me out and again I so much love your authentic reactions to movies from my generation. :)

When Jones Sr used an ink squirt in an enemy's eyes, he proved the pen is indeed (or should I say, as Trixy put it, "Indy'ed") mightier than the sword.
LOL if you can't tell, I loved the "indeed/Indy'ed" pun.! :-P It was clever, like "firearm" from the first movie, :-D

I suggest some movies by genre:
The Time Machine (2002) (Adventure), A jewel from the early 2000's.
The Island (2005) (Action), It's one of my favourite movies.
Bone Tomahawk (2015) (Terror), It was a grateful surprise.
Big Trouble in Little China (1986) (Comedy?) Very fun.

(Now that I've caught up on your reactions) You're good at this, Blue! I enjoy your perspectives a lot.
Few things to note: "The Mask" has a sequel, "Son of the Mask", and Dr. Arthur Neuman comes back in that one (with the same actor, Ben Stein). There's also an animated series that ran for 3 seasons. Several of the characters from each film are in it, as well as new characters, but Stein's also the only actor to come back to voice their own part again. But the series actually is good, what I've seen of it.
The Lion King has a couple of sequels, and number 2 "Simba's Pride" is actually slightly better than the first one.
If you watch the original Jumanji (1995), which is actually a great movie - you'd like it, some of the references in Welcome to the Jungle will make sense. But another good film is the sequel to Welcome to the Jungle, "Jumanji: The Next Level".
Finally, "Rhys Darby" the actor that plays Nigel Billingsley the Jungle Guide in the new Jumanji films, has actually been in some really worthwhile / worth watching things himself. - One of which I definitely recommend if you haven't seen it is "Yes Man" that also has a whole bunch of other good actors - Jim Carey, Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper, Danny Masterson (Steven "Hyde" from "That 70's Show") - just some great actors and it is a comedy but it's also sweet.
But keep up the great reactions and you seem really dope, and if you want me to recommend a few more things worth checking out, let me know.

The best reason to watch the 4th movie is that Marion from the 1st movie is back and Cate Blanchette plays a great Russian spy because it does fulfill your imagining of a wife and a son in the Crystal Skull so you don't want to miss out on Indy and Marion getting their happy ending

The first challenge that Indy does - "only the penitent man will pass" - he knees (as the Christians do before God) but he also has to bow his head to the ground (like the Muslims do). The roll was just a theatrical way of getting out of the way.
Also, the scene in which the seagulls take down the plane - this can actually happen to planes! It's called 'bird strike'. It's actually quite a common thing (even if this instance was a little bit exaggerated)

Watch the 4th movie. It's like the new Star Wars trilogy (VII, VIII, IX) in that it isn't a bad movie at all, it's just not what a lot of people had hoped for. Their hype got so high it would've been almost impossible to please everybody. But they're not to be avoided for any reason I can tell..

So the real world explanation for why the bullet went through like six NAZIs is that military munitions are governed by War Conventions that outlaw soft-nozed and hollow-tipped bullets. The typical munitions in the 1930s for military personnel were steel tipped, which although they do less damage to any one person, are more hazardous for civilians because they tend to go through people, walls and metal. And even the NAZIs pre-war and before the 1940s mostly followed international law with this regard.

The fourth movie, Crystal Skull, was made twenty years after The Last Crusade. For twenty years, everyone knew Indiana Jones as a film trilogy with no plans for there to be more movies (although there was The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV show). In that way, the fourth can feel kind of tacked on. It has some good elements, but it has enough bad elements that it's generally considered the worst of the four films. I'm an Indiana Jones fan, and I only saw the fourth film once in the theater and never watched it again.
So I do not recommend it. I think it will only tarnish the film series for you. If they ever finish making the next one, and it turns out to be good, then we'll have another Indiana Jones movie to add to the trilogy.

I'm not certain I believe that a camel is faster than a horse in the desert. A camel has advantages over a horse to be sure, like the ability to store water to allow it to live in those conditions, but if you look back at history, especially during the crusades, the Saracens and the Christians both used horses heavily. Camels were pack animals.

If people tell you NOT to watch a movie, ignore them. Even if it sucks, or is not "very popular", who's to say YOU won't find something to like about it? And especially if it belongs to a franchise, anthology or other multi-installment series of film, you may as well see it and find out how it ties in to the other films (if it does at all).
Music and Movie "connoisseurs" tend to be absolute snobs and lord their "knowledge" over others. They're almost as bad as all those know-nothing movie critics. The only good either of these types of people serve is to provide a reverse-psychology insight on what a "good/bad movie" is ; if they trash the movie, it's probably not bad or even pretty good, but if they praise it too much, it's probably actual crap... but even then, don't take the word of others - see it for yourself and YOU decide. :-D
