i guess you will very much like Spillways
The chorus is the exact level of cheese that I love. You’ll be screaming it live! I think this is a perfect song. Maybe not my favorite Ghost song (it’s up there), but it is just so expertly executed.
The dance routine gives me a Footloose meets 28 Days Later vibe :D
Be sure to update us with your reaction to the live show!
Ghost/Tobias Forge is a musical genius. No matter if you like a song or not,in deep you will always find something in Ghost songs when you tell yourself 'okay wow, that is clever' or so. For me personally, 'respite on the spitalfields' is the best ever song. Its a masterpiece one of a kind.
Ritual is one of my favorites. The live in studio version is a masterpiece.
Ritual Is a masterpiece ❤🎉
Give it a few listens especially after the concert...those Owohwohwooooooohs are a fan shout along and really catchy. They grew on me.
Definitely check out “Watcher In The Sky” and “Deus In Absentia” next!🤘🏻
Spillway would be a good recommendation or Mary on a cross live in Tampa to show their live shows
I have to admit, the first time I heard this song I was a bit taken aback by that cheesy chorus, then I watched the music video and it all made sense! The 80s "woo-wooaahh" harmonies, the Flashdance-style dance performances, Copia on a white horse - it's all one massive production of pure unfiltered camp and I absolutely love it.
The final riff of the song is from the previous album, an interlude called "Spöksonat". I love how they turned a quiet lullaby-like melody into a heavy riff.
Great reaction. I think this song draws from Dio/Ozzy for the main riff, and Queen for the harmonies (think of Flash!). Ghost draw from both the black/death metal, and also ABBA (pop). They mix that all together. For this reason some metal fans hate Ghost - they even have a few poppier songs than this, but they/he do what they want, and do it very well. Live this song smokes.
polarizing as always, what a band, the oh ah is my favorite part. this was also basically the debut of The Cardinal as the front man.
This album had a very 80s vibe, fitting the style of their “new” singer (same singer, different character). It all makes more sense in that context. Dance Macabre is another off this album that is undeniably catchy and full of cheese
It's funny because I love love love the chorus "Oooh ooo waahhh ahhhh!" part. LOVE it.
In fact it was a big hit. Billboard number one! And yes Tobias has said in interviews that he uses this accords because they are the best and always works.
The first time I heard this song, I was cringing at how cheesy that vocal line in the chorus was. However, it grew on me in repeated listens, and now I enthusiastically sing along with it.
By the 5th listen you will like the chorus like you said catchy...
The oooowooooo bit is a very Freddie Mercury thing
Told ya🤘😁👍(btw, among many things, their cool bass lines got me into the band)
As the great Bruce Lee said Simplicity is the key to brilliance. :)
Hiya David!
It warms my heart to see you discover Ghost's backlog. This is an unofficial recommendation that doesn't need to be on the show and is more from one metalhead to another: recommend throwing in some Amon Amarth when you have the chance. They are the openers for Ghost's current tour and their catalog is also freaking awesome.
If you do wanna put them on the show: recommend Twilight of The Thunder God.
Good one again, David :-)
Will keep this short and sweet. Subbed and following for quite some time now. Appreciate the depth and knowledge of your analyses.. So fun to watch you preparing for the live show.. I totally agree with all your comments, and I thought the very same when I heard this for the first time. But i grew on me. And now, when the crowd just belts out "RATTS!!!", you suddenly don't mind the Aooo Aaahaaa... 😂
Referring to your "What you're hearing is NOT live" comment on Kaisarion... 😉 I hope you enjoy the ritual opener 🤘
hahah all ghost reactions "this is catchy as hell". Regards from Argentina!
This song was my first introduction to ghost!
If you want to play at home, get a Kemper! Unless you think it's too expensive - it handles basses well. You can load any profiled bass amp onto it. Great for recording, which may make it worth it, if you record at home. I'm a guitarist but I have a short-scale bass for my small hands for recording. Just plug into your PC or Mac and listen through the monitors...
Love Ghost, by the way. The catchiness offends some people, but it's so clever.
The first time you heard Ghost I told you every Ghost song is a giant hook and this could be the biggest one.
Ooh aah aah is one of the best parts of the song
You can sing along to it
Best
Ohhhh trust me, when you see ‘em live? You’ll be yelling out “RRRRRRRATS!!!” with the rest of us mwahahahaaa 😜😈
The Song ending is a continuing part from the opening instrumental song from the album Prequelle
We need your review of Ghost LA show, we really need to know how ypu enjoyed that!
Concert review coming soon.
@@THEDavidHeretic CANT’T wait!!!
I've always been convinced there's an in-joke in the title "Rats" because the song almost sounds like a lost RATT song from 1985.
I don't know the songs that were recommended, but I hope Monstrance Clock is one of them.
They need a Rats 2 and pick up on the awesome ending riff
The ending riff was already used on the previous album though. It's nice how they turned it into something totally different.
Hey Dave, if you want to get a well suited combo/practice amp for your home studio and channel, I recommend the Spark 40 from Positive Grid. Literally tens of thousands of artists Plug ins all available through the software/app that connects from your phone to amp. Plus you can play along with the audio from UA-cam videos on the same device.
I hope after your first ritual you make a review/reaction. They're so much more than just a band... 👻 Loving your reviews!
Ampegs DI box and headphones. Lots of octave hits in this bass line. It's very fun to play as are most Ghost songs.
The oooh ahhh chorus is the best part of this song
The ooh-ahh chorus reminds me of the background singers of "My Sweet Lord." I keep waiting on them to say Hare Krishna.
Great
Rats is the best post-breakup song from Ghost I think!
Since you mentioned your SVT.. how about reacting to Paul Gilbert - SVT? :)
Had the exact reactions to "Rrrrats" with it's echo and the "Aaooowaaaah" back when this album was released 😄Gotten used to it though, but I still have those sentiments. Sure it's catchy, but on the other hand a bit too simplistic of a chorus, and some odd choices
Everything you say matches what I’m thinking about Rats. It’s powerfull but yet corny. It sticks in your head somehow. They have so many people like, Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth, Vargas and Lagola and famous swedish recorders to back them up. Yea so when you have that, it’s easier. I heard that the drums in the song Cerice could have been Dave Grohl. Hot names! :-)
It's usually the guitar parts that get stuck in my head from this one.
Try Nothing But Thieves "Amsterdam". Lets see what you think about them.
Witch Image is really good or Watcher in the Sky, Griftwood, Respite on the Spitalfields or Twenties
I was thinking many times before, that it would be good if you would be actually plugged into something , while trying to figure out the songs / play along them. Some simple Fender Rumble would do :)
You have to review Twenties, Faith and Respite in the Spitalfields by Ghost. Trust me!
Very very Queen
Gotta start with older Ghost....RITUAL!
I think we are brothers from another mother. I suggest a cheap Fender rumble 25. $100 new.
What category of music would you place Ghost?
Probably Hard Rock.
It wouldn't be a plague if it weren't super catchy.
Buh duh chiiiiiiiing
I could drop an "aw rats" joke but that would be cheesy
Did you enjoy your ghost ritual? Are you going to do video on it?
I will be filming the concert review tomorrow.
my least fav ghost tune
