Outstanding review Kyle...and I agree wholeheartedly. War was a masterpiece of a film that didn't take the safe route and repeat what the previous films achieved.

One of your best reviews. I actually truly believe that this film is a cinematic masterpiece. A perfect conclusion to a brilliant trilogy and one of the greatest trilogies ever made.

I really liked Kingdom mostly. However, I had a couple of criticisms. I thought Raka’s demise was unnecessary. I think he would have had continuous value to the Kingdom saga if it continues. While the film score carried the move well, It should have been much better. it should have included memorable cues throughout. This was a lost opportunity.

Bad ape for me was an essential element to the success of the film. War is mainly a dark film with great drama. However, bad ape came across as simply a genuine creature with a lighter expression than the other apes. In real life some people are just naturally humorous. They do not try to be but a more funnier than others and also easily frightened than other peoples. So is the case with bad ape. I enjoyed his contribution to the great film.

Upon rewatching it before Kingdom, my thoughts on him have softened. I still think it's a bit too goofy toward the end but it's improved for me. Thanks for watching. What did you think of Kingdom?

Wow you liked this A LOT more than I did. It's impossible to deny the MoCap/CG/Andy Serkis was were all phenomenal, but in terms of story (which all of should service, it completely fell apart)
    Spoilers Below:
The first and very short act was far and away the best, it had real conflict, real emotion, and some pretty interesting writing.
The second act was a snoozefest, no real tension, no real steaks, no real development. I saw it two days ago, and can't remember much of what happened. There were some ridiculously cheesy moments (a la that flower scene)
The final act was the worst-it felt incomplete, or like they took four or five potential endings, and all crammed them into one. The tunnel nonsense was just weird, they're digging through a foot of dirt, yet somehow it didn't collapse, also the fact that it was perfectly positioned to get all of them out of the cages. Or the fact that there didn't seem to be ANY guards watching the cages. The apes climbing on the ropes wouldn't work. In the trailer, you can VERY clearly see guards walking below, yet they somehow didn't see them, human eyes are better than that!
Also that non talking disease seemed pretty questionable too, Woody Harrelson said that everyone is carrying it, but you have to be around someone who has it to catch it. I thought that was poorly done.
Not to mention the War itself, there were no steaks to it. We barely knew Woody's group (who we were meant to dislike) and didn't AT ALL know the guys in white who were fully militarized out, there was no tension there, we didn't know who we were supposed to root for.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and it was a great review, but this is just a case of us not seeing eye to eye!

Jack's Movie Reviews That flower scene I felt worked in the context of the characters.

Don't understand some of the blowback this has gotten, I agree with your review I think the film is very emotionally resonant and satisfying. I watched the movie with a friend and afterwards we were trying to describe the experience and what we liked but we both realized we were more or less speechless, essentially repeating different ways of saying 'wow' or 'that was good'. Few movies have been able to blow me away like that when leaving the theater

I actually disagree with you on Bad Ape, I found that he worked fine for this movie. This movie is so somber that he helped balance it. He didn't come off as annoying, he came out off as awkward and idiotic which in turn created a lot of humor out of it which I found funny.
Overall I loved every minute of War for the Planet of the Apes, the illogical moments people complain about I don't really care and I have my own conclusions for them. It's my 2nd favorite movie of the year so far, I still prefer Logan as I find it to have more rewatchability.
