Denmarks defence minister has mentioned, that NATO defence requirement, likely will add 70 billion to its defence. Which means at least 15 large navy vessels and 40 smaller, ground to air defence, a heavy army brigade and additional F35-A, P8-A Posidon MPA and MQ-9B SeaGuardian UAV most likely
If we’re indeed integrating our air forces, why should other countries get their own Gripens? Just station Swedish jets on their airfields and vice versa. We can have pilots from each nation in their own jets, or train pilots from each for different aircraft.
Because Denmark needs more aircrafts than 27. So instead of buying more F-35 that has a flight hour cost of some 35.000 dollars an hour and is a maintenance beast. A fleet of Gripens would cost 8.000 dollars per flight hour and is not a maintenance beast in nearly the same degree. It would also mean that we invested money in our own Scandinavian weapons industry which means we wouldn't solely rely on America when it comes to air power. And the weapons supply line from manufactorer to airbase would be much shorter. Also having another kind of aircraft to use as a force multiplier for the F-35 is a good idea, and the gripen is very capable at that.
@@NothingIsKnown00 Yeah, that is much much cheaper on the Gripen than on the F-35. Also a gripen takes 2 aircraft specialists and 10 trained draftees to maintain, that's a lot less than what the F-35 requires in maintenance personel. It makes a lot of sense for Denmark to buy it.
Norway will not add Gripen, we have a small air force which will be only 52 fighters, so we need to keep logistics and maintenance cost down by using one fighter. Denmark is far more likely to add fighters than Norway and Finland, I predict they will scale with F-35A for the same reason we should do that, if Danes start using air base on Greenland, they will need more fighters and will probably add P-8A Poseidon as maritime patrol plane.
@@tbo2307 The Norwegian air force is tiny, we scale force by NATO membership, we do major projects by partnership with other nations, we keep run-time costs down by being smart. Having two fighter platforms ain't cost effective, if we want more air base resilience, we will add F-35B and if we want more fighters, we add F-35A. However, I think we had an option for 10 more F-35A, but decided to use those funds on air defence instead. Number of fighters per capita is not only an useless measure in war, but also for investment and operational costs. Real numbers matters, not per capita.

@ Didn’t think of the flight hour cost. 🤔

Norway have more 5.gen fighters per capita than the US… so, not so small.
