The Gripen is one of the most advanced systems in the world, often without comparison. Its electronic warfare suite is state-of-the-art and ahead of most other platforms. Add to that, if it requires upgrades in the future, the platform is modular with separated architecture so you can switch out the entire suite by simply removing the engine and pulling out the entire electronics module. You can basically have a completely new version of this fighter in just a few hours. I'd say it's a lot more innovative than you think.
Plus, it can use improvised air fields and can be maintained out of a truck.
And same can be said about the Rafale and the Typhoon.
Any 5th gen jet is stealth untill a radar can detect it or a captor can track back the source of a lock. While EU fighters relly on jamming ennemy radars to not be dtected.
But those are much more expensive than the Gripen, which is both very good & very cheap. Rafale & Typhoon aren't worth the price considering even F35 is already cheaper, has stealth & most advanced electronics & sensors etc. Furthermore many allied countries buy the F35 so it wlil be the most tested, improved & used jet in the world, which is what keeps it price low like that.
And Stealth is really effective (against current radars/ad), it's not about being invisible but about not being seen before you see the enemy, and they won't get a lock on it.
Relying on jamming is not so secure, for example the Patriot system, even tho it's superior to anything russia has like s400, has an easy way to counter that. If there is a jammer the sam missile will just home in on that jammer instead lol, so either way they're shot down. We've seen that now in Ukraine how effective it is, even downing rus planes over russian airspace, in most cases the crew doesn't even survive. So while Typhoon & Rafale are very capable, they can't match the F35, whlie the price is higher. The "supercruise" is also an asset that's not rly useful imo.
@@BzhToine
@@BzhToine A JAS 39 Gripen C/D in a exercise against Eurofighter was able to jam detection and got so close to the Eurofighter that they were wing to wing.

Regarding the price of Rafale and Typhoon compared to F35 is not to be taken only on buying price. You have also to look at the whole lifetime of the plane and the flight hour is much more expensive for the F-35 and it's maintenance far more complex and expensive. The avaiability too, EU fighters can perform at least 2 times more missions per day than the F-35 that also have a much more lower payload.
And regarding jamming, a missile can go to the source of the jamming but if the jamming prevent the lock it will not go anywhere.
I think you might be underestimating the capabilities of the three European delta-canard fighters. The Meteor missile all three of them can carry makes them more than capable of dealing with anything Russia can throw at them in a BVR scenario, and they can all carry 7 or more of those.
In a 2008 exercise, a Rafale was able to score an F-22 kill in a guns only dogfight, which is still quite impressive.
In a 2006 exercise, 3 Swedish Gripen A's went up against 5 Norwegian F-16's and after 3 rounds the results were 5-0, 5-0 and 5-1 for the Gripens. In another exercise a single Gripen was able to shoot down 2 out of 3 F-15's it had a task of intercepting.
These 3 have significantly lower drag than their contemporaries and quite impressive agility since they were all pretty much designed to counter Flankers and Fulcrums.
1. Rafale never managed to score a kill. In the video that you are presumably referring to, it got a missile lock, not a gun lock. It is also utterly irrelevant of course, because that is not how a fight vs a 5th gen would go.
2. The 2006 exercise never happened, it is a fabrication perpetuated by a random poster ("Stefan Englund") on Quora. OFC you just swallowed it hook, line and sinker because you can't exercise source criticism.
Rafale has a marginally lower in T/W ratio 0.01% than a Eurofighter, but it eat 2t less fuel per hour, and 4t in AB per hour, making it the most effective military engine of his range in the world, never forget its the birds staying longer in the sky that wins battles, range weight and weapons load are everything
Rafale has performed more missions than the Eurofighter, and has proven itself more than capable of doing what it was DESIGNED to do... It also has more operators than the Eurofighter, and while the Eurofighter might seem more capable on paper while being similar to the Rafale in price, foreign air forces tend to always favor Rafale more than the Eurofighter... This is because of the Rafale's capability to perform any mission, any day, very excellently... There's a reason why they call Rafale "the first and only omnirole fighter jet"... Meanwhile, the Typhoon is made primarily for air superiority, but later on integrated with limited ground attack capabilities...
Also, the Gripen should have a higher grade for innovation... Its pretty innovative for its prize... The new Gripen E/F variant (now in operation with Sweden as of this video's publication) is equipped with an IRST and AESA radar, and has an advanced electronic suite... Its radar is actually better than the Rafale's, with 1000 t/r modules as compared to Rafale's 800... Also, the Rafale radar is GaA based while Gripen's is GaN, which is more advanced... The Gripen's radar also has a repositioner, something that Rafale lacks, and it has a 2-way data link capability, again, something that Rafale lacks... Unfortunately, the Gripen E/F is no longer the "budget fighter" that the Gripen once was, with a price tag of around $85million, its now more expensive than both the F16V, and the 2-engined F18E...
But even the budget-friendly Gripen C/D ($40-45million) is pretty innovativr... It too has an advanced radar... Yes, its not an active phased array radar yet, its radar is still pulse doppler, but unlike other pulse doppler radars with mechanically-scanned antennas, the Gripen C/D's pulse-doppler radar has an AESA antenna, making it more efficient and effective... So again, its pretty innovative for its price...
In addition, the Gripen (all variants) is also made of composite materials, and has a reduced radar visibility design (just like the Typhoon), making it both more stealthy and also very lightweight (in fact one of the lightest fighters in the world)... It can also supercruise at Mach 1.2 while being only single-engined... Its also very cheap and very easy to maintain, and in fact only requiring 1 skilled engineer and 2 other unskilled workers to change its engine, and onlt required a short strip of straight highway to operate, making it able to operate even without runways... What other fighter can do that, aside from the Gripen (and the now-outdated MiG-29)?
The rafale has more export sales because Germany keeps cockblocking Typhoon sales
are you French?
@@spidos1000 nope... I'm from a southeast asian country
Do not get too emotional, the Rafale and the Typhoon are pretty similar in what they can do. Between this two aircraft’s it’s up to who is the better pilot. The Rafale had a better radar but the Typhoon gets a new one so they will be pretty even. They both use the meteor missle so they are equal here as well.
I never flew a Gripen so I can not say anything about that aircraft, but it looks capable too
The Eurofighter is more flexible than the Rafale, the Eurofighter can be configured into 3 types of planes including ground bomber and electrionics warfare
To rank the SAAB Gripen 4th is a testament to ignorance. It shows a lack of understanding the technology, the philosophy and culture of this system and just go for basic information.
While Gripen lack passive stealth, the active stealth is probobly second to none, as far as we know.
But Gripen is missing a other gen 5 feature. Internal weapons bay.
There is also one more gen 5 feature that have been unpublished. It is assumed it exist, but not publiced. Super cruise.
Then there are the other, and i would argue, possibly most important gen 5 features as networking where i would argue that European planes is even a head of US counter parts.
Its also worth saying that UK-Sweden is hard at work on the first gen 6 fighter, the tempest. Of cause, US is also working on it with the Ngad and the F/A-XX.
@@matsv201how can you be ahead of an obviously much more dominant country as far as aerospace goes (the U.S.) when speaking about aircraft networking with only a handful of operational aircraft for equipping anf networking to speak of while the u.s. has dozens from next gen bombers, heavy aircraft, drones and fighters to be equipped and to network with. What would sweden network the gripen with? Other gripen? Yeah..... thats not what they mean when they speak of open architecture and networking of aircraft. Just so we are clear.

@@AviationAustinthe analysis is completely rubbish... the Rafale F4 is the best European plane by far...
I am in the Navy and even speaking with our pilots who have done several NATO exercises with European planes say that the new Rafale F4 is an incredible plane, and that the typhoon is over... besides there is just a watch the latest NATO combat exercises to see this...
even for the last combat exercise organized for Holland, the Rafale F4 finished victorious, slightly ahead of our F35...
the Dutch finally bought our F35 to the new standard.
The Rafale F4 is by far the best European combat aircraft...

First get the image for the mirage and the rafale right 😂
1:30 into the video i feel like you havent done any research ??? mirage 2000 was a revolution compared to the mirage III and was on point at his time but what is showing that you dont even know what you are talking about is putting a rafale pic on the " "stat card" " that you created
yeah, and then later he used a picture of a Mirage on the Rafale stat card
The main operators of the Rafale are not just France and Greece. As compared with the 24 units of Greece (H.A.F.) ( 12 upgraded and used and 12 brand new ), United Arab Emirates have signed an order of 80 aircraft of the upcomming version Rafale-F4, Egypt owns 24 Rafale F3R and has placed an order of 24 additional units and India operates 36 Rafale F3R and recently has chosen the Rafale M to equip its aircraft carriers ( I do not remember the number of units ). Quatar has acquired 24 of them along with 24 Eurofighter-Typhoon and 36 F-15EQ, Croatia is also an operator of the Rafale F3R ( 12 second hand and upgraded units just like the 12 Greek ones ) Indonesia has also placed an order to Dassault ( I do not remember the number of units ). The Rafale was not supposed to conduct air-to-ground operations, whilst the twin-seated Mirage-2000D fulfills this purpose. The Rafale is a nimble high thrust-to-weight ratio aircraft with low wing-load and canards and therefore it boasts about a superb manoeuvreability ( it managed to shoot down an F-22 during an excersise - guns only - that took place in U.A.E. in the year 2008 ) and by the way the French endowed it with additional air-to-ground capabilities as well as superb BVR engagement capabilities that come along with the METEOR missile.
I didn't list every operator for many aircraft just for time same but thanks for listing them here!
@@AviationAustinyou are also incorrect about Europe lagging behind in aircraft technology especially if we talk about GCAP and FCAS 6th gen fighter programs. Then also with the eurofighter and rafael is going to be upgraded with some 6th gen capabilities. Manned unmanned teaming being on of many capabilities.
I'll believe it when I see it.
India ordered 26 Rafale M for its Navy.

I believe you underestimate the capability of the new SAAB Gripen E. They also call it Gripen NG. Look how it can start from roads and how fast is is turning in the air.
I'm mostly looking at the platform as it was introduced. Not every single variant. Also most of these aircraft are very similar in g-limits and maneuverability
@@AviationAustin I see what you think and feel. I am sure that Eurofighter is more clumpsy than SAAB Gripen but can can carry more bombs. I am glad for your work.
Thanks I try to take all emotion out of these rankings not by sticking to the statistics and numbers. A lot of people seem to prefer a ranking that says the obvious, whichever plane is newer is obviously better. That's a boring ranking in my opinion. I much prefer a ranking that considers not only capability, but highly favors innovation
But for that price u can buy 2 Gripens to carry as much bombs too 😂😂 eurofighter & rafale mainly just lack stealth, which makes them a very expensive 4gen+ jet..@@Bishop46066
@@AviationAustin You are clueless
Mirage 2000 is hell of innovation compared to mirage 3, electric flight control, RDY/2 radar, mission computer etc... it's a big step up.
A "big step up" doesn't make it innovative. It makes it modernized
@@AviationAustin Fly by wire alone is already a revolution, mirage 2000 was one highly innovative aircraft of his time.
@RogerPierre57 the most sophisticated fighter in the world 😭 oh buddy.
@RogerPierre57 "and are still up there with anything around today" F16V yes probably but Mirage 2000's latest upgrade '-9' (late 90') is definitely not on par with the latest avionics or weaponry that you can find into the Gripen for instance.
"Rafale, which is the most sophisticated advanced fighter jet in the world" Indeed Dassault philosophy is to propose high end integrated tech with a certain level of rusticity, a compromise with the idea that it has to be able to make war not showcasing around.
I wouldn't say it is the most sophisticated, but for sure it is highly sophisticated, and again, Dassault's jets are designed to fight, not to shine on podiums.
"it is the "ONLY" omnirole jet in the world and second to none" Well it used to be the only omnirole, and had introduced the concept, but not today, Gripen can claim it as well.
So yes Rafale is one awesome piece of tech, and probably the most prolific non-US fighter of today, but you need to temper your enthusiasm 😁
@@RogerPierre57 Well, Mirage 2000's avionics is not really updated since the late 90's (execpt the 2000-D), still use the old RDY (-5) and RDY2 (-9), and early Rafale F1's mission computer, you can't decently compare with 2020's avionics, the gap is huge.
2000-5 & -9 are still potent and lethal if well operated, but the Gripen E is certainly ahead, 2000-9 and D are probably more efficient as bombers but in bvr the Gripen is untouchable, like said by French pilots during evaluations, the Rafale (F3R) killed the -5 (radar on or osf) way before the 2000 is able to detect.
your argument of authority is not receivable here.
Very inaccurate facts. The Mirage-2000 does not belong to the 4+ generation fighters. The production of the aircraft stopped in the year 2009. Recently the air-defence variant Mirage-2000C has been retired from the inventory of Armee de l' Air ( about 130 units ) and only about 80 twin-seated Mirage-2000D are left operational for mainly ground-attack purposes. Of course the production of the aircraft in cause has never reached the number of 600 units as mentioned in the video ( unless you confuse the Mirage-2000 with the earlier model Mirage F1 ).
Are you saying it should be a 4th gen fighter? Not a 4+?
@@AviationAustin It has been introduced in Summer 1984 ( as an early production variant ) as a 3rd generation aircraft. The serial production engine M-53P-2 was available in 1986 and the serial production radar ( RDI ) was available in the year 1987 . This final version was designated as Mirage-2000C and initially was armed with the Super Matra 530F missiles for BVR engagement until the introduction of the Super Matra 530D with longer range and snap-down capability ( operational in 1990 ). In the year 1996 the version Mirage-2000-5F has been introduced equipped with the RDV radar ( mechanically scanned ), that featured a faster search mode with a faster processor and longer detection range. The cockpit was equipped with 2 MFD's, with Up Front Controll and it featured HOTAS flightstick and throttle. The new engine ( M-53P-25 ) featured only a 4% additional thrust. The introduction of the MICA-EM ( active radar missile ) and MICA-IR ( long range red-infra with initial radar guidance ) missiles was the aircraft's strongest point. This version could barely be desingated as a 4th generation aircraft. France was engrossed with the developpment of the Rafale. Armee de l' Air had upgraded 37 of the existing Mirage-2000C up to the Mirage-2000-5F standard and about 33 of them are operational today with the purpose to initiate the new pilots into the air-combat before they jump into the Rafale.
Well I'll defer to your knowledge then I only know what I had researched in preparation for this video. European fighters are not platforms I'm too familiar with. Thanks for the info!
At least if you admit it... Your video contains quite few errors and approximations about french aircraft. I don't know the others well, but when you say that european jets are all almost identical at the start of your video, that's a big shortcut. Yes they have similar architecture but that's as far as it goes. In terms of speed, range, capacity and use, they differ a lot. And the difference between the mirage 3 and 2000 is simply enormous. Yes they are both delta-winged single-engines aircraft, but the 2000 is a complete new aircraft.
@@AviationAustin if european arent a thing you know too well, why are you making a video on it as if youre at all authoritative on the subject
The scoring image of the mirage 2000 is in fact a Rafale.
Mirage 2000 was a competitor of the f16. It brings the wire controls, so it was a breakthrough for French warplanes.
You never mentioned the electronic warfare capabilities of any of the airplanes
That is so top secret that id be surprised if the pilots even know the full capability. So kinda hard to take into account.
Eurofighter top of the list???? You really don't know what you're talking about! Only 3 countries bought this jet, 3 out of the 4 countries that DESIGNED and BUILD it. Despite it is more expensive, the Rafale was bought by India, Indonesia, Croatia, UAE, Egypt, Greece, and France of course, and they are more to come. You think it is just to please Dassault? Even US experts think the Rafale is impressive. You're certainly not better expert that the top Air force experts of those countries. Please, do videos about cooking!
This is not a video about what is best. Or what is the best selling. It is a video about the best engineered aircraft.
@@AviationAustin Do you think the position of the Typhoon's air intakes is a genius idea?
look at the Rafale air intakes and find why they have this position, moreover the Rafale is more stealthy than the Typhoon!
Buddy I am not a genius and for sometime I thought that Raffel was 5th gen but later realised that it was 4+ gen. I am an Indian so since India bought it I was curious.
I saw someone saying that Eurofighter has been collaborated by 3 countries and if others need to buy spare parts or upgrades than it will be a headache and many times Germany has destroyed it own customers based on bad after sales service. But with Rafael that problem wasn't thr. French don't want their tech to go to US, China, Russia so they are nice to others. I guess it has euro centric policies.
I also think that since Eurofighter is the best in the class so Europeans want it to keep it to themselves rather than give to others especially 2nd world.
So diplomacy, after sales service and price is a major factor as well.
FYI I am no expert on Aircrafts or tech.
I still don't know which is better compared with Eurofighter, Saab gripen and Rafael since they all were competing.
Very well said !

So the Rafale should be placed before the typhoon for exemple, as it was announced after it, flew first and reached it's full operationnal capabilities before.
The possibility and feasability to upgrade extensively the plane was part of the base engeering of the airframes, the planes should be rated on the good or bad anticipation of their usage all allong their anticipated lifetime.
It was also the first plane to be totally ddigitally designed, also a major engeenering advance and I talk before about flight control systems wich are reputed from the release of the plane to be extraordinary.

I could understand for the 2000 ( and its C / D versions )
Gripen a 5 in Innovation. Are you for real?
@cams-dn8nzFirst and still the only fighter with a GaN based E warfare suit. It has 41 different sensors, the entire fighter is covered with antenas. It has very low RCS. It can supercruis, it has the most modern 360° missile detection system. Its radar has a 220° detection area. It can turn away from the enemy using the doppler shadow while still using its radar to guide its missile. Infact in many areas it is more modern than a F 35.
Brazil bought the Gripen for one reason: technology transfer. With the Gripens sold to Brazil, Saab algo gave away all the technology they developed for it (Embraer wants to produce jet fighters in the future, I suppose). As a counterpart, Brazil is helping them to produce the Gripen for the international market. I saw a video about the Gripen factory in Sweden with the supervisor going: "oh, yeah, this part of the plane is made in Brazil and then sent here for assembly". Maybe that partnership makes production cheaper or maybe faster.
Rafale is definitely above typhoon... if you consider the overall opinion on youtube. It beats even 5gen like F35 for a lot of people.
This is not an opinion based ranking. It is based on cold objective numbers and the criteria explained in the ranking video.
Exactly !
A Frenchman would say that.
... based on standard F1. Why is it not compared to Typhoon's tranche 1 then?
Why Rafale got 7 for versatility while Typhoon got 8? Rafale can perform morr roles than Typhoon. Rafale also has Reduced cross section

personally would give the typhoon a 7-8 on the price since its one of the best or rather say THE BEST interceptor out there right now and a very good price-performance ratio. also its in a development as a multirole, ECR version is coming out soon aswell. basically a f15-ex in a eurofighter

@lars9966 i think he is saying he is just looking at the price without taking anything else in consideration because the other aspects would be covered in the other sections
Ok, so it is all about the operating environment. For the Europeans, it is about interception because our most likely enemy is Russia. This means that the aircraft needs to be able to climb very quickly to attain defensive postures. US stealth aircraft just aren't powerful enough in the thrust-to-weight ratio. Offensively, stealth is important; that is why the UK has F35s. The Euro fighter is generation 4.5 which means its materials and EW aspects are stealthy but it does not sacrifice all of its performance to stealth in the way F35 does.
I am brazilian, liked that you use the brazilian Grippen
Isso aí!
Not sure why the Mirage 2000 is discussed here...
The Mirage 2000 has been progressively replaced by the Rafale since 2001 (more than 20 years ago...)
I find it a bit weird as a ranking, Rafale is currently a huge success story and has proven to be extremely versatile, I can't understand how Eurofighter would surpass it since the reason France left EuroFighter's project and developed the Rafale is exactly for that reason that they wanted something more versatile and capable of doing absolutely all possible tasks (which it has proven to do very well many times in combat...)
why Harrier only got 5 in innovation ,its vertical take-off and landing technology can be regarded as a revolution
Yea if the harrier was so bad why did the US buy so many of them lol
The mirage 2000 had the improvement of BVR technology, id call that innovative
Improvement of existing technology is not really what id constitue as truly innovative. It's modernization.
So basically what you are saying is now that rafale has air to ground capabilities it can get a well deserved 9/10 versatility and get the 1st place that is soooo obviously is
You know that Harrier (AV-8B) you showed to demonstrate how advanced US aircraft are? We invented that in the 60s and have now retired all ours.
I find it interesting that you would rank the Mirage 2000 low on innovation. Given that it is an old airplane (3rd generation), the question is not "how innovative is it now?", but "how innovative was it then?". On the other hand, you do not take into account the Rafale's technological innovations (phased-array radar, etc.) because they have been added more recently. What gives? Why don't you compare these planes as they are being sold currently (the Mirage 2000 is not sold anymore)?
The one thing you left off is the cost of operation which is a big part of running these jets. The Saab Gripen would win hands down!

New to UA-cam?
I don't really understand the purpose of comparing aircraft "as they were introduced" and not with their actual matured capabilities. The Rafale, contrary to the Typhoon, was designed to be modular from the very beginning with evolutive standards in mind as France was going at it all alone, with the cost constraints that come with it as a result of defense spending cuts post-Cold War. The platform was thus rather incomplete at first (the prematurely introduced F1 standard to urgently replace the French Navy's obsolete carrier fleet and then F2 standard for the Air Force) but had more leeway for modernization (additions, replacement of systems with new, more capable ones, etc) for a jump in capabilities, which is what happened. The Rafale F3-R, Gripen E and Eurofighter Tranche 4 are the variants that should be compared. There are newer more capable variants (the newly-introduced Rafale F4, the planned F5, the Typhoon with the Captor-E ECRS Mk2 and the planned Tranche 5) but the previous ones mentioned can be considered mature airframes already.

Airbus isn't a french company. It's a European company. In this case it's Airbus defence and space that is located in germany
giving an 8 to versatilty to typhoon and a 7 to the rafale when u know both was designed as a multirole fighters but typhoon couldn't due to the additionnal side wings just below the cockpit making ground mission not opperable, and the fact there is no naval version for the typhoon, is not accurate at all.
also the 3 for the rafale at cost is a bit rough when u compare the price to its concurents. i would have put it before the eurofighter because it's a better multirole, and the eurofighter is just slightly better on air-air, but rafale is combat proven and really efficient in it.
btw i would also put gripen at 3, won't elaborate seems logic.
You forgot the Panavia Tornado still in operation for Germany's nuclear deterrent as part of the nuclear sharing agreement of Germany & the US. They are getting replaced by the F35As that Germany ordered but currently the Tornado is still in operation and saw recon missions in Syria against the IS. It's an old ass aircraft, but still operational in Europe. Germany actually bought another 15 upgraded Tornados for dedicated EW capabilities.
its a beautiful old ass aircraft tho
The Rafale has outperformed the Eurofighter Typhoon everywhere and it's considered the best European fighter jet. That said, if you just want a cheap European fighter jet that is value for money, Gripen is a good alternative, supposing you are a country without major threats. That's the conclusion Switzerland came to: rafale is the best, Gripen more value for money.
never rate again lmaoo
Versatility 8 for Typhoon ? Without Active Radar yet, not a bomber, can't land on an aircraft carrier, not combat proven & not omnirole ??? Come On
The fact that the harrier is still used by the U.S.A is a testament to how good a plane Designed by Britain in the 60's built By hawker siddely in the U.K, fought in many battles. Recon if we put jet engines on our mosquito from WWII it would still be used today. 🙂
Gripen E - send them up, I'll wait
Speed is not important. Many planes have been brought down in speed as high top speeds are not useful.
RAFALE. And far away...
Technically the F35 is operated by the UK aswell. that and the typhoon are our primary two fast jet fighters. But I understand it was in a previous ranking so.
The two fighters make a very stream lined but capable air force if there's a task the typhoon can't do the F35 can and vice versa. Even if it is a little boring.
Not built/ designed by Europe
@@AviationAustin ah fair point
It's represented on my overall list not to worry. You'll see you see it head to head shortly!
@@AviationAustinparts of it are so thats not quite true
@@jurassic345 Indeed. The US is the main developer of the F35, but many European countries contributed a lot to it's development it's an international effort. Most countries that use the F35 contributed something to it.
Aren't there more jets like the dassault-dornier or the Tornado?
Talking about mirage 2000 and showing rafale... It says a lot about thus video
typhoon lost 16-2 vs rafale, end of story, au revoir.
It's not a football game. That's not how the ranking works
On paper Rafale is the best european fighter; on reality grippen is the best war fighter @@AviationAustin
THIS topic, is a mine feild, as evidenced by the criticism.
There is a reason the Eurofighter looks like the Swedish Gripen!
I'm thinking the Dassult Rafael is the best at this moments among of european aircrafts
1:42 why did you use a rafale image for the m2k and then a M2k for the rafale?
Lol what a shirty ranking. "No fighting record for the rafale"
Sure bro, ignorant.
The ranking was absolutely ridiculous ! To place the (already retired as a sigle-seated Mirage-2000C ) Mirage-2000 ABOVE (!) the state-of-the art JAS-39E (Grippen-NG) is a sacrilege ! How can one just compare a full-metal construction with a modern construction that consists mainly of carbon-fibres and composites ? How can someone compare an old-fashioned delta-winged design with an extra manoeuvrable canard-winged aircraft ! And how about the state-of-the-art AESA radar ES-05 made by Ericsson that equips the Grippen-NG ? Haven't you heared anything about it ? How about the built-in IRST and the data-fusion capabilities of the Grippen-NG, that made Canada hesitate on which aircraft to choose between Grippen-NG and F-35A ?
This is not a ranking of who would win in a dogfight that would be boring. Of course modern fighters are better. It's what is the best engineered aircraft.
Gripen deserved higer than that
I think you should take a better look at rhe Gripen E.
Britain, Germany, France, Europes and Japan makes themself economically and in war weapons super powers and left American selves.
Love your content…what about the Phantom and the Tomcat?
Tomcat is coming in my Top gun revisted episode. But I have not sure when I'll introduce the phantom.
you know the eurofighter, rafale and gripen E/F/NG have around the same rcs ij ust feel that this video is under researched
I like the video, but I don't like your scoring system. I feel like ease of maintenance would be better than some of your more vague categories
I think ease of maintenance is far too vague. I would never be able to get reliable figures for that from China or Russia. But generally if there's anything notable on maintenance it would be reflected in the effectiveness score.
UK does not use Gripen
The Rafale is very very VERY far ahead of the Typhoon. You have no knowledge of aviation, it's obvious right away. The Typhoon has no stealth and is not multi-role unlike the Rafale which can do everything. Not to mention the fact that it cannot land on any aircraft carrier and that its radar is inferior, it has only just received an active antenna radar while the Rafale has had it for 10 years now and is in more recent versions . Nobody buys Typhoon, it's a commercial failure, while the Rafale is the most exported combat aircraft in the world since 2021 thanks to its export contracts.
Why are those who make the top picks for the best planes always those who have no knowledge of military aviation and who have never flown a plane in their life 🤦♂️ This pollutes UA-cam with false information
Saab gripen does not fly for the UK
They have gripens on lease for training test pilots. Obviously not used in active military operations
Airbus is not a french company - its a multinational European company (British/German/Spanish)
Severely underestimating the Gripen here. Along with the Rafale they're the most versatile European fighter jet. But ranking the Gripen low on innovation makes less than no sense. If we're talking air superiority then the Typhoon would unquestionably top this list. The Rafale is the best of the European multi-role fighters. But the Gripen is without peer when it comes to versatility, innovation, and cost effectiveness of any 4th gen jet in the world--not just Europe.
Hey could you please talk about the F-22 shooting the Chinese spy-balloon
What would like to know that hasn't been discussed already?
the disrespect to the Gripen and swedish aircraft is crazy 😭
What are you talking about?! I love IKEA!
Disrespect? I have no IKEA what you are talking about?
Gripen, Rafale, Typhoon, they are all superior the the F35. And Russia doesn't even have anything that can compete with the F16.
this guy knows nothing about military aircraft, he used mirage picture to talk abour rafale, and reverse, has wrong infos about costs and planes' kills, really bad video
Jas grippen🗣️🔥🔥🔥🇸🇪
Gripen is a toy, not a fighter jet !
The UK does not operate the Gripen.
Great to see you back, Austin!
Happy to be back. It been so crazy busy!
This ranking is a bit strange. Because they will now upgrade the Euro Fighter with equipment from Gripen now that Sweden also becomes a NATO member. Should they equip the best plane with equipment from a worse plane because the best plane will be better?? Or what do you mean? In the same way, during exercises Gripen has taken down the US planes on a conveyor belt, E.g. meeting 5 F16 against 2 Gripen, result 0-4.
The Typhoon loses nearly every battle it did in military exercices against the Rafale....and just did some air policy in Lybia when the Rafales did the firsts strikes operations....in the swiss competition the swiss army noted the EF-2000 inferior to the Rafale in nearly every aspect (only in air superiority is was just "on pair").....Worldwide countries buy Rafale nowdays and not the Typhoon: it says everything...
I like this powerful fighters jets
Sorry but who in Europe flies the Harrier 2 anymore?
The UK stopped long ago and the Italian navy flies American versions.
SAAB Gripen is a way better fighter than the Mirage 2000 & would go as far as the say the E model is better than the Eurofighter interms of tech, capability & affordability
2:35 that's a mirage 2000
Bruh the RAF doesn't have any sarb aircraft and im pretty sure nobody uses the harrier anymore. UK certainly doesn't
The U.K leases a Grippen and uses it as a trainer and I think the Spanish and Italians still use the aircraft whilst waiting for replacements as well as the U.S Marines
Greece a the second exemple for Rafale? When Qatar has 80 ? Please, improve your research.
This is not an aircraft inventory I never said I was going to list every operator. What a boring video that would be. You need to chill
i think this guy does not know how war machines actually work. in reality there are diffrent tactics to learn about and when to use them. the performance are diffrent, but every military have its own training and tactics for their own vehicles, just stop compairing vehicles.
Look we dont need stelth we have meteor.
Damn, how i love the Eurofighter.
Gripen E are more advanced then the Typhone...
Irrelevant...
Sad swedes in the comment section XD
A lot of hate on IKEA too. I love IKEA. Affordable quality furniture in my opinion.
That’s a joke
