Yes. I feel like he’s not identified the deficiencies of his players and put them in positions to be as successful as possible. I understand lack of talent but there is a lot of assets put into the Defense, the scheme needs to match the skill sets. For example look what stefanskis been able to accomplish with backup caliber talent at the QB position.
@@JamesTheReaL The thing is, Joe Woods' scheme needs an elite defensive line because he never calls blitzes. Woods hasn't had an elite defensive line yet. If you don't like his scheme, I can understand that. But he hasn't had the horses that he needs to run his defense.
Yes but at the end of the season. It would be too difficult to instill a new defensive scheme at this point in the season and expect it to do any better
@@DawgPoundDish I get that but I expect a DC to be creative on his own and run a defense that fits what he has not what he wishes he had. He’s obsessed with trying to run the 49ers defense.
I was just thinking how I haven't gotten any new videos from you & found this. Great stuff, as always. Would appreciate some film on prospective FAs, draft picks, etc. You do excellent work.
Also they need a solid DT not great but solid DT to keep the linebackers clean to make plays. I'm confused by the safeties and corner backs this year so I don't know what the solution is there
Yet they STILL refuse to pick good players up even if they're available. I've been screaming for months that they should have gone after Akiem Hicks, get Sheldon R. back and others were available. I agree, solid is all they need. People that can anchor the line, stop the run and not get pushed around.
On that one play there should have been a holding call on jok on the bounce but of course the rest don't call stuff like that not for the Browns anyway
dude the one play you crushed Phillips, he was in his whole as mike. the mike doesn't have outside contain. JOK was the primary on that and needed to shed that block and come down hill.
There’s a way to maintain gap integrity while also trying to tackle the running back. The good LBs in the NFL don’t just give up if the RB doesn’t run through their assigned gap.
Well done, Why is offense so much more refined and disciplined- coaches- scheme? We don’t hear much about effort or technique on offense- other than actual skill ( Quarterback/ some receivers)
I think it’s because defense is more reactionary. Even though defenders have jobs, they don’t know exactly what they’re going to do on every play, which is why hustle and effort are so important.
The DTs, Grant Delpit, Denzel Ward and John Johnson have looked terrible this season. The only one that has passion and fire is Greg Newsome. Clowney has been absent. We really need some tackle help. The defense looks horrible and that’s putting it nicely.
This video was posted before the New England game where this defense SUCKED again -- against the run AND the pass. They gave a rookie, 4th round draft pick, third string QB look like Tom Brady. Good grief. How Woods still has a job is beyond belief!
Guess you never played . MLB first responsibility is the a gap to stop the cut back. Can he flow outside sure. But it's not his job to set the edge and force runs back inside or wide to the boundary ! If he immediately breaks outside leaving his assignment the RB just cuts it back up the middle.
All the analysis and data points are cool and all, but sometimes we have to simply take a step back and marvel at how shitty this defense is. It's something to behold.
We do need some more trades for the DEFENSE..If we had Grant right now that would be some more help for the Offense...Which this yr is 10x better than last yr..DEFENSE NEEDS HELP RIGHT NOW...SMART FOOTBALL BALLERS ON D..RUFF RYDERS...
Browns defensive problems: JOK, Delpit, Johnson, Takitaki, Greedy, Ward, Clowney always being out, Philips. Walker was the glue that kept this run defense together. Delpit doesn't tackle. He just hits you with a block and you can keep running. Dude doesn't know how to tackle.
Do you think? Look at what happened last year and the way he started out so far this year! He should have been gone last year, to keep him in his position, either the front office is blind or just scared to pull the trigger, fearing the backlash if they fire him!hope they don’t wait til the season is all but loss!
There is a list of issues with the Browns defense. Lack of talent on the inside is one thing, but you can teach proper skills, which isnt something you should be thinking about at the NFL level, this is things that should have been taught in College and High School. But here we are. On top of this, the defenses run stopping is one issue. The inability to have a consistent offensive drive is another. When you have a QB that has a great week one week, then the next two weeks cant make a decent throw if their life depended on it is another. When I see two HIGHLY talented running backs like Chubb and Hunt being ignored on a 3rd and 2 play in favor of a pass.... when the defense is showing pass coverage and you have been averaging 4yds on EVERY run play. I dont get it. I wont go into the issues with the front office and the bone head choices they make. How about cutting Watson before he even shows up and picking up some decent d-linemen and linebackers?
There's plenty of ways you overcome no talent to stop the run. It's called a run blitz. You should know what it is. It's what Deion Jones was doing in the first few clips in your video. In our defense, Woods will have him 8 yards off the line and he'll look the same as Philips.
@@DawgPoundDish That's the problem. The solutions are obvious, Woods is just too stubborn to implement them. Watch the Chiefs defense. Half the talent we have, but they'll risk it all for stop. Meanwhile Woods runs his shell zone with 14 yard cushions on 3rd and 8. Death by a thousand cuts. He predicates it upon never giving up the play, and eventually a star like Myles or Ward will make a big play. They can't when getting gashed by the run or lining up in a zone 8 yards behind the line to gain. It's ignorance and stubbornness. All defenses have holes. If Woods needs 9 or 10 studs to field a competent squad, that's enough to know he's terrible. Also worth mentioning is that EVERY player regressed under Woods, going back to his Broncos days. Aquib Talib, Von Miller, Denzel Ward, John Johnson III, the list is endless. From pro bowlers to scrub. Everytime.
Anything other than the interior of the dline is wrong. It starts there. We needed a MLB but we need D lineman. Last year we had a decent rotation that semi worked. This year. Nah😊 They’ve also given up. Them arm tackles tell it all. Bad angles. The guys don’t believe. Worse defenses have played better. Coaching. They let them not play at all. Soft practices no pre season. Them boys scared of contact.
Good analysis but the title is odd. Couldn’t ‘catch’ a cold normally reserved for poor wide receiver play a la Anthony Schwartz. Stopping a cold is easy if you just wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water. Go Browns!
It seems like Joe wood is very stubborn trying to force a square into a round whole you know your guys are getting pushed around on the d line your corners are too light to be hit and running backs but yet and still you want to play five of them not saying that they cover anybody go back to the drawing board basic football 434 all that thinking and zone stuff you doing hasn't worked won't work and it will get you fired
Ok let's stop beating around,Joe Woods needs to go , OK guy is to nice he has lost the defense, bring someone in here to take the straps off these guys an let them go get 'em tired . Go Browns.
As someone once said: "If you want to eff something up beyond recognition, pus a couple of Ivy league guys in charge. The front office and Coach are (at least they think so) too smart for their own good. In other words, it's all ego above brains.
Do you want Joe Woods gone? Let's talk about it...

Very good valid points. 👏 ppl praise the way we look on paper because of the 5-6 dB we have and the de
Not a big nfl fan- video showed up in recommended and I’m glad- this vid has the production quality of a channel with 100x the subs. Awesome work!

The Falcons do something creative here...
Falcons: *Runs basic counter play*
That’s a center windback counter off of outside zone. It’s not basic. You have to have an athletic guy at center to do something like that.
It seems to me that they are not locating the ball and when they do it’s to late pass coverage is bad
Not keeping Sheldon Richardson was this front office biggest mistake
They finally signed a 1tect DT now go get another DT payne from Washington and a DE so we can rotate are ends and not get gassed
I see everyone harping on Woods but can we address the continuous missed holding calls….

offense needs to score even more and then this D will be able to generate turnovers in the passing game.

we lost for sure when Browns acquired problematic DeShawn Watson. analytics front office is a shame

bring back G Williams. (don't give up one blade of grass). he would decline Andrews and stephanski being Woke
