Agree that it would not make sense for any conference to publicly court FSU or any other ACC school legally. That doesnt necessarily mean they dont want to add them. Being a lifelong Buckeye I would love to see FSU in Big10. My 6 yr old son received a traumatic head injury when I lived in Florida and while at a hospital in Jacksonville met T K Weatherall as he served on hospital board as well. He saw my son and made him an honorary Seminol with an amazing certificate and several incredible pieces of football swag. Sorry to ramble but I will never be able to express how valuable that was to my son. Priceless

As stated before, FSU would not have made the decision to leave the ACC unless either the Big 10 and/or SEC gave them a " wink " to abandon ship. The Big 10 and SEC are distancing themselves because the lawsuits will fly when FSU and Clemson depart.

  • @clayturville6532

Depending on if you include streaming numbers, FSU is either 7th or 9th in total views. Clemson is around 20th. It seems foolish to think that neither the SEC nor B1G would jump on that audience/revenue. They may not be willing to bend over backwards for it, but they won't pass up the opportunity if presented with it.

  • @jamesbryan4731

FSU and Clemson will be in the "Birds Seat" when the gates open for their exit. Do you think the SEC and B10 are going to conspire and leave them in the dark? Do you think those two schools don't know their market value? School and Conference presidents don't care about FSU being a disrupter. CFB fans don't care about FSU being a disrupter. It's understood, a premier program will strive to align itself with other highly successful schools. To suggest FSU would accept 75% or 50% share for entry is ludicrous. FSU's brand and TV revenue is tops in the country. Have no doubt, they'll come knocking with glass slippers.

They're not being very good at it. The reputation of FSU, a great institution, is being trashed in public. They're being called "disruptive" due to how they're going about this move. Do they not understand Jim Phillips' reputation in the Big 10 and how their attacks on him are backfiring in the eyes of Big 10 members? There is a reason USC and Texas made their moves secret and quick and not in the fashion that the Noles are going about it.

If the SEC or Big 10 were looking to add FSU and Clemson, these leaks would not come from them. You don't besmirch the reputation of a future member with these rumors. You also don't allow the other Power 2 conference to say "like the stories said, we didn't want them because it didn't make financial sense and their broken relationships, etc etc". Anyone who works in marketing knows the 5 to 1 PR rule to rebuild a reputation. Your membership reflects your conference's image and you wouldn't trash that of a future member's.

First, FSU and Clemson have not left the ACC yet and are not in position to join elsewhere. Both have opened lawsuits challenging the GOR but are still members of the ACC.
The next likely move is to for both schools to declare their intentions for the 2025 season. The lawsuits will move forward in months to come and likely start to answer questions, it could be a year as independents before things get clarity but it will end eventually and settled. Once there is clarity things will move forward with the conferences.
Bottom line, the conferences are not ready to make statements as to adding members. People need to stop trying to be the news breaking source and let things develop.

Very good takes here. Both of the P2 must have plausible deniability. My only beef is "not understanding" why FSU is a disruptor. When they leave the ACC, the floodgates will open. And what remains of the ACC will be drastically less valuable than it is now. This tends to piss off those who don't have a lifeboat. The B12's ire at Texas (and OU) has been muted by Yormark's leadership...and the fact that the B12 is making more money now than ever before.

The situation with Washington and Oregon was that B1G didn't want to be the reason that Pac-12 broke up and didn't want to expose themselves to potential lawsuits. When Colorado made the first move to leave and other 3 of four corners were about to leave, the opportunity came for B1G to offer and grab those two.
Turns out that Kevin Warren, previous B1G commissioner wanted to pursue all 4 schools (UW, UO, UCLA, USC), but that would have resulted in Pac-12 collapse, so that idea was nixed. Then it was decided to pursue the two S Cal schools instead. As soon as UCLA and USC announced to leave, UW and UO reached out and were vetted by the B1G and FOX for membership. All was needed was an opportunity.
My guess is B1G and SEC is waiting for someone from ACC to make the first move to absolve themselves from the blame of breaking up the conference. Then they will swoop in and pick up the teams it wants. What's unfortunately for FSU and Clemson is that they might be the ones to force the issue, which potentially comes with legal issues that B1G & SEC may not want to touch. But it could be an opportunity for B1G to swoop in and pick up UNC (& Virginia?) when it happens.

@@willn851 UW and UO weren't going to B1G until George Kliavkoff absolutely tanked on the Apple Streaming deal. If it was even a half way decent deal, remaining Pac-12 teams may have stayed together.
UW/UO will gets full share post season and 0% interest loan from B1G/FOX to make up for some of the difference. Even at 50% media share, the schools will still make roughly double what they make at Pac-12 annually.
For a life boat kind of a deal, it could be much worse.

FSU did the math before the lawsuits. The math says staying in the ACC is not an option. They fall further behind each year. They will leave, but where? Even if the Big10 calls the payout will not be a full share based on Oregon/Washington payment structure. I think all 3 conferences are possibilities. Side note, it’s amazing NC & Virginia are rumored to be SEC bound. Eyeballs and on field success certainly don’t warrant that. So why? Politics and other factors. Not on field success, not viewership, both of which FSU is far better than those mentioned. That’s what I’m sure raises the ire of FL St fans.
As far as tampering, the trail of direct contact will not be there. These people are far smarter than 99.9% on UA-cam, they know the lines.
Ego aside, honest question to FSU fans. Would you rather be in the Big10 or SEC as the 7th/8th team in the media pecking order or in the Big12 as the 1st or 2nd? Would you rather be independent with a limited media deal and limited CFP path?
Finally, they would make far more in the Big12 than current payouts. That’s why the PE is being discussed.

As a B1G alumnus Miami has zero appeal as a private school. They aren't USC or ND and they have no connection with the conference.
Big state schools that have some level of academics and research are the targets.

My God brother, your homerism knows no bounds. The Mega 2 will consolidate but only on their time frame. FSU has spent the last year plus trying its best to force the BIG10 and SEC to make a play before they are ready, like what happened with the PAC12. The huge difference is FSU doesn't have ownership of its media rights which why the lawsuits are happening. The only way FSU forces the hand of the Mega 2 is when it has its media rights in tow, but even that may not be enough if FSU is the lone defector. Only a full implosion of the ACC will trigger a premature power grab by the MEGA 2. I think the BIG10 and SEC would be totally ok with leaving a lone FSU out in cold for years while they prepare for the ACC's demise and why the BIG12 for a temporary FSU shelter is being talked about. The BIG12 knows this but are so desperate for any chance at relevance that it would sell its league to private equity to accommodate FSU. FSU is so head strong that it can force the ACCs Armageddon that its willing to do anything even being forced to slum in the BIG12 for a chance at getting into the MEGA 2 early. Clemson was even willing to file a lawsuit in hopes of showing its support for blowing up the ACC but are not willing to go as far as FSU's "MEGA2 or Bust" gamble. UNC sees the bigger picture and will jump when the time is right. UNC is reading the room and realizes that this probably is not going to happen anytime soon but will be ready to jump when it does. FSU is like the spoiled little brat at Walmart willing to throw all manner of fit to get that shiny new toy but will likely end up with a bruised butt and having to wait with its nose in the Big12 corner, yuck. Meanwhile FSU is truly a degusting example of a conference partner and I for one will be glad for them to take their whiny butts anywhere else and hope they pay nose for the pleasure.
