There are not a lot of D2R players who can pull this off. Expert character positioning, knowledge of the game and the mechanics-this, although a 'slow' run , deserves admiration.
For anyone else who isn't a speedrunner, there's no dishonour in going a tad bit slower and clearing yourself some more space to escape before summoning boss waves in Chaos Sanctuary.
Hey MrLlama Thanks for this series, thoroughly enjoyable! Thanks also for being one of the streamers/YTers that helped get me through lockdown. Played classic as a kid and picked it up again a few times in lockdown, never finished Hell though, grabbed D2R two weeks ago. This series inspired me to make a physical bowazon, which I dutifully twinked with a few bits from my main Javazon. Well the twinking and having Insight from 27 and Peace from 29 for no effort killed most of the fun. I don't have the willpower to resist my shared stash tabs, but I discovered HC has a different shared stash. So I'm now doing my first HC character as a ssf physical bowazon. I think it's the most fun I've had in a video game in years, and I'm a 50+ hours/week gaming kind of guy. It's really cool how much of the fun is down to itemisation too. Every rare with MF + resists + another good stat felt like Christmas when I was doing meph runs and chaos runs. Getting a 3 socket bow with taltalnef was godly, could just multishot once and walk away while my xp bar climbed. Normally nef is like whatever but in HC the knockback is so nice especially against exploders and lightning enemies. Then I found a blue circlet with 50 poison/5 and 1-56 lightning in A3, which just took it to another level. Had to farm Meph for a while before I felt ready for HC A4 and got pretty lucky, Sigon's gloves from my 2nd kill. Got the helm from Diablo, 15th kill maybe? Tried Zephyr at one point but it wasn't great. Edge was better, especially with a point in valk at 30, but it sucked in A5 due to lack of demon tag on many early mobs so I did chaos runs from 30-35. Eventually got 3 amn drops and Larzuk obligingly put 4 sockets in a stag bow and with Insight I'm just wrecking A5. Not bad rolls either, 17med 255%ed 4crit. Only 181%ar though. I've had a bloodfist and howltusk drop and it is tempting for the +40 life, knockback and making enemies flee. Not sure it's worth losing the AR, lifesteal and 20% IAS for though. 35% damage goes to mana with a 17med aura though? Might be nice for survivability. I could compensate for the lifesteal a bit with a Cathans ring. Decoy is sick for HC too. Never used it much before but with edge thorns I think mephisto 3-shot himself with melee attacks? Seemed weird, didn't work as well on diablo or for Meph vs me/merc/valk. Don't think I ever even hotkeyed it before but now it gets cast into every non-trivial mob pack. Highly recommend HC to anyone who hasn't tried it yet if they enjoy the challenge of levelling gear-dependant characters.
Why don't they add a recipe that makes a certain rune when transmuted be a tier lower rune? He have Dols sitting there, and 3 Shaels = Dol so why not have it the other way around?
Would have loved to see you farm a better bow! This Playthrough is all about farming and taking it slow, right? Even if this Episodes take 10 hours more, think your Playthrough audience would love it ;-)
Great play through, thought I was a bit disappointed that you had to continue without better bow. Thank you for the content! Hit chance system looks like one of the biggest drawback for the physical builds. I guess removing lvls completely from hit chance formula would be very positive for many aspects like: physical builds stronger for speedruning\ levelling \ play through, def and ar are more important, late-game a bit tougher for casters etc. Also I think it would be great to add base damage bonuses for str and dex varied by classes like vita. Lets say +1max dmg per point in str and +1 min per point in dex for barbs. This would make physical classes less gear dependent and also add variety to attributes distribution
For LlamaRPG 2.0, have a look at the gameplay in Ambermoon. Reasonable mix of 2D, 3D and turn based combats. Quite dated graphics, but good story and large open-ish world. In fact, a modpack for that engine would be awesome 😅
THX Mr Llama! this was my favorite character since 99 finaly i was able to complete hell on my own without help! i end up having Buriza and The cat's eye amu for act 4 and 5 so it was much faster. and again thx you for making this guide!
I fell asleep; when did the Lem rune turn up and allow the swap-out on body armor? Speaking of, I really think some NM Cow runs with the Skulder's could've done some good in terms of gear --that Hone Sundan might have dropped earlier, or some Gore Riders.

Another great video... any thoughts why the devs haven't given Mephisto teleport? That would probably solve the bridge cheese, unless they want it in the game of course 🤣
I think this build gameplay should have been twinked. It would be more fun and still challenging on hell.. you get to pick from common uniques, sets and runes up to gul... cuz bowazone is not players first chars... and it would not feel so painful to watch. Would be interesting seeing if witchstring vs lycander do better and stuff like that...
But if you watched from the beginning, the point of these playthroughs is to show that it IS viable as a first or only character, or for dedicated SSF single player. Obviously you're correct, having the gear ahead of time would speed up and smooth out the progression, but this is to show that it's possible, even if you don't have other characters to do the farming for you.
Hi MrLlamaSC I would like to throw a challange at you in D2R. Challange name od two-handed Barb , the ruled are to play two handed weapon only (asap) through normal use only skill Bash + masteries for nightmare concentrate + masteries and some shouting but not offensive ones and hell berserker + masteries and some shouting but not offensive ones. I have never seen a run/playthrough like this. After my tryb i dont think you will enjoy this challange but i'm 100% surę that Chat will!
I wish these playthroughs actually went slower and didn't feel like a speedrun of the game. It's impressive but I want less cheese and more of the farming and leveling. I think people want to see the character look strong and what it actual takes to do that.

It is unfortunately kinda random, though there is certain areas/bosses who will be better or worse or even have no drop chances at all. It will heavily depend on what specifically you're looking for. So either go with certain bosses you can kill fast and who have high drop chances for the sets you're looking for. Or just go somewhere with lots of enemies (if those have a high enough level to drop the sets you need).
You don't play a Bowazon if the only thing you want to do is cheat (teleport) to the boss at the end like a boring sorceress. You play a Bowazon when you want to kill things.You don't just run though the CS and the Keep to get to D and B, you KILL everything along the way.
Wouldn't it have been better to farm NM cows for 15 minutes and get a better bow + level up and then finish Baal in 10 minutes? Instead of spending agonizing 25 minutes pounding Baal with a crap bow and a not so strong Valkyrie? At least it would be more exciting and varied for the viewer. Other than that a great play through, you move the Amazon like a ballet dancer at times. Thank you!
I dont really get the point of struggling so much to level a character so bad.... D2 is really an amazing game for a lot of things, but some of the skills trees/possible builds are so bad and useless.... The balance in this game is a big fail.
I have no idea what class to play first. I started a Fire/Ice Bowazon when D2R released and got distracted with other stuff and only made it to Lvl 7, so I'm starting over. Thinking either Hammerdin Bowazon - Phys Bowazon - Fire/Ice again Its such a re-playable game, yet I sit here and spend hours thinking what I want to play 🤦♂
I suggest starting a few different ones, see what you like. Unfortunately you really can't see a characters potential until a bit past level 30. Fire/ice bowazon is a whole lot easier than physical. Hammerdin is very powerful, but without enigma it's really annoying to position yourself so the hammers hit. Lightning javazon is very easy to get into, as is the fireball/frozen orb sorceress. In my opinion. Dealing two types of damage (lightning+physical or fire/ice) makes it easier to start on he'll, even though they're maybe not the absolute best
@@olegil2 I ended up starting as a paladin following llama's old playthrough, so its basically a holy fire, zealot right now at lvl 15. And i might stick with that, I have heard a lot of people mention the hammer hit issues for new players, although I'm not too worried about it. Its been fun, I forgot how diablo 2 utilizes basically 0 skills interaction, you basically set something and forget about it. I'm not that arpg experienced, only playing Torchlight 2 and Diablo 3 before I purchased D2R, but I enjoy the more interactive skill experience (rotational hotbar) I think. I'm literally just left clicking right now.
Literal decades ago, I was playing a barb using 2h sword and a shield, and my necro was swinging a maul for some reason... it took me a minute to figure out what I was doing XD
@Jdkieddj zealot with fanaticism and holy shield is able to take out every boss in the game if given enough crushing blow and life tap, by sometimes using the single point into smite that is a prerequisite for holy shield. Maybe not the best for crowd control, though. Good luck, have fun!

The run itself is very doable. The speed he does it with is absolutely insane though

A "speedrun" using only physical bow skills without using any cheese strategies would be hardcore and probably take 24 hours

jesus, that dmg fell off like a rock from a space station... watching trying to kill venom lord in CS for 60 seconds is just painful
