From a guy who has been solo hardcore traveling for over a decade... One thing I know for sure is never depend on a gadget to bail you out. Cool idea and might save your life but really the truth about solo travel is what you learn about yourself and how you will handle a bad situation with no one else to help you. Take it from me that device is a false promise of hope when the sh!t hits the fan. You will need to be your own man and you WILL be better for it in the long run. Hi Chrome - in the last few videos you seem a little lonely. Just letting you know there are thousands of us out here who love you and appreciate you. Your videos - whether on your music, touring other vans, finding cool places to stay, or just doing life with Cruzy - bring many of us joy. We are pulling for you!
Found out the hard way that you need to turn off auto tracking unless you want it on b/c there is a charge every time it records your position. It's a great unit, though. Peace of Mind - Priceless! Now you just need a VHF unit to keep out of the way of those logging trucks. 😊
Weather Tech has window covers customized to various types of vehicles. They might be a bit more then you want to spend but you wouldn't have had to replace them all the time. Just a thought. Love the Garmin, keep safe out there.

For holding my cell phone, tablet, GPS, etc., to the dashboard, steering wheel, and over my bed, I cut holes the size of fender washers in the rubber device protective cases, and glue fender washers flush with the case using "Shoe Goo" with masking tape to hold the finished side steady until it sets up. Strong magnets glued to the dashboard, ceiling of the van, or some kind of velcro harness for wrapping around the steering wheel when parked
I have the garmin inReach mini for remote backpacking so I can text my son and loved ones that I’m ok. It’s also good if you ever get badly hurt and need to get rescued by a helicopter. Hit the sos button and BOOM they show up! Good purchase brotha
i have the inreach.. i hardly ever use it, but it is by far the best piece of equipment i own. another thing it is good for is moderate things ...like: "i'm going to be late" "i'm going to a different place" ... etc. also you can help other people.
Yes, once I realized that I was old, and didn't have quite the resiliency I had twenty years ago I started carrying one. What people forget is that you don't have to be miles out in the back country to be stranded. If you are out of cell phone range, which happens a lot in the west, a broken leg or a heart attack near your favorite trout stream fifty yards from a major highway and you are as stranded as if you are in the middle of nowhere.
I'm fairly new to you and what I'm doing is going back to all your old videos and working my way forward so I can be brought up to date with all your journeys. Your old videos always bring a smile to me and make me have a laugh or two
I have the in-reach mini and love it!! I use it for hiking and/or boondocking in my van. So many awesome features and it definitely makes me feel safer.
Something I will have to ask Santa for! My girls and I travel solo to all kinds of places like you off the beaten trail so this little gadget would be a safe guard against any disaster that may befall us off the road.
I'm so glad you purchased the garmin. You go into such remote areas you now have a safety net. Also instead of throwing about your old window boards you should tape 3 or 4 together will beef them up & should last alot longer.
I’ve carried an inreach on my travels for years, very nice peace of mind! You can pause your subscription when you know you’re not going to be out far and save some money for a few months a year.
You are a good Dad! Made me weepy watching you talk about your daughter. Loved watching Cruzzie get a bath...so cute!!!! Christmas present to yourself.....Safety!!!! 👍 ❤
Great find! I am SURE you will appreciate its usefulness when out in back woods, and even in travels and cities.... Always good if you have an alternative way to contact your daughter and family! Well done! Stay safe and well! Cheers! :)
I'm looking at joining the nomad life next year and have been looking for something that will give both me and my family a piece of mind. Thank you Chrome for talking about the inReach mini!!
3M has awesome adhesive products. Clean off the old one and put on a slim double sided strip. 5 bucks instead of 30. Bubba Cruz is sooooo cute. Safety is always first and foremost when on the road to anywhere from anywhere. This also gives us peace of mind that you won’t be stranded if you get hurt.
You’ll love the Garmin In-Reach Mini. I’ve had mine for a couple years now. I particularly like the SOS button. Well worth the money as a fulltime backcountry vandweller. Congratulations 👍
Have you ever thought about using the old one and the new ones together the window lines putting a cover over them with a little handle so you can take them in and out of the window easily
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been looking into Personal Safety Sevices and was unsure what to get. I have my phone but my friends and I live over 45 minutes away from anything cityish or cell towerish. We ensure we are okay everyday by text. The Garmin is perfect especially when we are "traveling by roads". Roads are usually gravel paths. Also much love to Cruisy. My Jelly and Caleb are small enough to shower with me but I'm sure they'd love a real bath like Cruise
Cruz baths may be no fun but you always look so beautiful...big hug to you cutie pie! And Chromeo I gotta say I am diggin' your matching Dickies shirt & shoes.
I'm loving it! Thanks! I'm a second Master's Degree person, who is marrying a person who wants to go to school to study computer technology stuff! I'm also CDL endorsed. As soon as we can get our own van built we need to invest in some of this technology! Thanks, Chrome! God bless you both Chrome and Cruze! Give Cruze Bear a treat or a bone!
You made the right choice I tried the one with the flat part on your phone because you're in the car the heat melts the adhesive and it doesn't stick properly so you made the right choice

Thank you for sharing your purchase and set up of the Garmin. I’ve been researching them and you helped me to decide how important these are when traveling. Also, to avoid tearing your window coverings, just put some electrical tape around the edges. The tape will also help them to stay up better in your windows.
Black coroplast and reflectix for side windows. When its hot I put the reflectix facing out and when its cold I put the black coroplast side out. Just duck tape the two pieces together. Works and lasts and is cheap. Key word cheap.

Nice addition to the arsenal of gear. Although the dash mount is nice and handy, when you’re driving in the rough weather and/or locations where you might need it, I recommend keeping it in a secure pocket on your person. I always do that with my cell phone in bad conditions because you know the mount is not likely to hold onto it in a rollover situation and then it’s vanished into the darkest corner of the vehicle where you might not be able to find it, let alone reach it.

The panels fit great, friction fit, and can be folded or rolled up out of the way. Oh and tremclad covers WAY better than cheap spray paint. And reflectex is so easy to cut with scissors .
Even though I agree that you made a great purchase with the Garmin Inreach device, my first thought was "Yep, boys and their toys!" My husband does that too - getting all excited and caught up in the "new shiny" thing... Enjoy!
Another great thing about the Garmin Inreach is if you have an emergency in the back country and no cell service it has an SOS button so you can get emergency help asap!
What about just replacing the adhesive pad? Just buy a roll of it and cut out whatever shape you need. Defs get a good grade of 3M - I just get the same as GoPro use [code: 4991 . .the grade that holds windows on skyscrapers] and I keep a 1/2" wide roll of it in my tool chest). A butter knife pushed between the mount and the case to remove - clean the mount with acetone. ..and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS take the time to properly surface prep both sides (including a scuff with scotchbrite) - it makes ALL the difference.
That device seems like a real game changer. I was wondering if just having it means you can be found if you injure yourself and can’t get to it. Since you have unlimited presets you can send something out daily so someone knows your’re out in the back country and comes to help you if they don’t hear from you for 24 or 48 hours. So they can get to Cruzie bear. You too of course. 🙃 Love to Cruzie 😍🥰
I'm glad you got that device, we have wine of those things a bit bigger but it does the same. We lone to my father in law to go hunting on Colorado, will prefer for him not to go, but it make s him happy, and we got couple of message from him and it felt so good to know that he was safe.
I use the same things to black out my Grand Marquis. When I used to Urban stealth camp in my car... I still have them in my rear windows just because I like the blacked out window effect. Even though I'm not still camping anymore.
