Thanks bud! Appreciate the shout out!
No problem 👍
I rode my 94 FXSTC to work today, and as I was pulling into the parking lot it rolled over to 140,000 miles. Love that bike. My first bike, my first Harley, and I'll own it till I'm dead in the ground.
140,000? Impressive 👍
It’s fascinating how HD was able to create 15-20 different models out of the same frame. And that Harleys production figures went from 28 thousand units in 1984 to over 250 thousand units in 2000.
The company definitely picked up after 84. They did pretty well until around 2008.
This was a GREAT VIDEO!! I really had no idea about all this history. Thank you for this!
No problem boss 👍
I got 2020 softail slim w 10,000 k. Many upgrades. I can do anything a bagger can do. Best harley platform ever. Hands down
I would agree with that 👍
I have been a fan of the soft tail ever since they were new. Before even seeing one for the first time, I thought the concept was genius. Still do.
They’re definitely nice bikes.
Awesome video!! I have a 1996 FXSTC that i bought in late '96 just as the '97s were coming out. I love that bike, it's my daily rider, and I would never sell her.
Did Harley ever build any Softails with a shovelhead as a power plant? I remember when the Softails came out in 1984, and I seem to remember seeing Softails with a shovel. Anybody else have any memories, or was I just dreaming?
Thanks boss.
I don’t think there was shovel Softail from factory. I’m sure plenty of people have put one in a Softail over the years though. I’m more of an evo fan myself.
Love softails have a 2015 slim stage 1 and s n s 583 cams bike is sweet
Great video. Little history on the Softail I didn’t know. I’m a huge fan of the Softail. I bought my first bike in 1994 and it was my dream bike, a 1989 FXSTC. Still have it and ride it today and will never part with it. Would also love to get a springer Softail someday. Always thought Harley should do a revival model of the FXSTC or FXSTS.
Thanks boss 👍
Softail for sure. Owned two of the new generation, currently on a 16’ Breakout to fulfill the requirement for a cruiser. One of the big advantages with the new frame and suspension is increased lean angle, without sacrificing low seat height and center of gravity.
A cruiser is a must
Great video💯. I totally agree with you. Right now, HD only cares about the sales of the Street Glide and Road Glide. I will always be a fan of the Softail. Not just because I own a Fat Boy, but because it has an awesome style to it. I wish HD would have kept the Night Train and Deuce models. Those two models both had a very chopper style look to them ( especially the Night Train ) . My first choice will always be the Fat Boy. That bike stands out on it's own. Just like when it was introduced at Daytona Bike Week in 1989. When the man himself, Willie G rode it in . Keep up the great work and always ride safe 🤘🏻💯
Thanks boss. It would be nice if Harley paid a little more respect to the Softail. Especially this year.
@@canadiansa1nt309 , absolutely 💯!! I know HD wants everyone to buy a touring bike..but you can do some really good touring on a Softail!! I've done a 1000 mile trip in 2 days on my Fat Boy...500 miles one way ( my area to Lake George NY) and back the next Day. Some highway and mostly backroads. It was awesome!!
What no mention of the FLDE deluxe? Still my all time favorite !
I’ve had a fat boy. Have and love my Road King. My wife has a softail Deluxe. It’s a great bike.
Agreed 👍
I prefer the softail models, they’re a lot lighter than the touring models.
Got that right 👍
And they are more than capable of crushing miles. Defiantly the way to go if you don’t want to manhandle an 800-900lb touring bike. But I have to say my previous bike was a Fat Boy S and I have a road king special now, really don’t feel the extra weight especially when she’s moving.
Let’s not forget one of their biggest blunders, The Rocker
Ah, yes. The wonderful rocker, haha!
Won't go into how many softails I've had but currently have a 1988 fxsts that has been heavily customized. I had a 07 Fatboy that I rode across the country several times and loved it until I got hit by a car. My current 88 softail has a aftermarket torsion bar rear suspension and it's like riding a damn hardtail.
Loved the evo softails.
I like the shock delete look on soft tails and besides that you don't have to polish the springs 😁
Agreed 👍
It would have been cool to see a CVO Softail to celebrate the 40th Anniversary, but buyers probably wouldn't be willing to spend that kind of coin on something that didn't have "infotainment" on its feature list. And Harley knows this.
But that's okay, I've already bought my first Softail, and last Harley - a '95 Heritage Special. The sound of an Evo played through Vance & Hines pipes provides all the infotainment I need.
They don’t want to do much unless it’s a touring model.
And I agree…a nicely piped evo is a beautiful thing.
Do you plan to review the heritage?
If I could get my hands on one I would. I’m not sure if my local dealer has one in stock at the moment.
I love all the Softails I ever owned. Love my Fatboy. I am sad to see Harley leaving the Sportsters and Dynas I do not think their current line up replaces them. New riders cannot get into their first bike of a Sportster which is lighter and is a easy first bike with the classic Harley look with an easier price tag. Also, the people without the income level or the people comfortable spending the money on bigger bikes like the Softails on up, now have limited choices in the Harley line up.
If the Nightster was priced lower that could be a good first bike. But I agree, the lineup keeps declining.
New subscriber. From far away Saskatoon. Always loved cruiser look. Not a fan of fairings. Agree completely about “Glide” fixation at the MoFoCo. Dyna Convertible was a bike I admired. Not sure where Zeitz intends to take the corporation. Local issues kept me away from the HD dealer, otherwise I’d be riding a Fat Boy. I’m an Indian owner now. Springfield. I’ll send you a pic if Indians are allowed. Hope your channel prospers. Cheers!
Boy, all the way from S’toon, haha! Zeitz is an environmentalist. He’s looking to make it completely electric at some point.
And of course Indians are allowed. All makes and models.
@@canadiansa1nt309 Cool! I’ll send a snap today.
I like the Heritage variations... I always wanted a hardtail, but now in my upper 70s, I guess I've become a bit of a wooss... have a `07 TC softail Heritage and although I don't seem to log the miles I used to, the Softail is lighter than my long-gone Evo Ultra and has more than sufficient performance for this ol' greybeard...
I made a hardtail Sportster. You’re not a wuss. You just care about your back. 👍
I think the whole performance bagger/KOTB craze has for sure hurt the softail. Everyone wants a road glide these days. One reason I have a road king special, I’m not the 100th something glide to roll into bike night. The new softail frame might be Harley’s best ever and is more than capable of crushing miles. I feel the pain because it’s the 30th of the road king and haven’t heard a peep about that.
As for Dyna bros, I get it but the new softail frame is so superior in every measurable way. Also I think a big part of that was multiple platforms cost more money and of course under this new (and I feel idiotic) leadership, Harley wants to make as much on each bike as they can. Multiple platforms cost money and touring bikes make the most profit. Bums me out also but I think that’s the reality. My previous bike was a 2016 Fat Boy S and I loved it!
I’m a Softail man myself. I think it’s a shame Harley just pushes the touring models now.
👍🏻🇨🇦
