For the bridge fiberglass it should buff, what you should do is do a 3 step I’ve gotten the gel coat on our boat to look brand new after sitting exposed for 5 years, first use a heavy deodorizer follow it with polish higher speed, then the wax you might need lots of deodorizer, the gel coat will take in some of the oils, for the teak I’m not sure it has a stain on it, teak is incredibly oily and doesn’t retain stain well, first you need to know if the wall is veneer or solid, that lets you know if you can sand, if veneer you’ll burn through, it could be a teak oil or some kind of tongue oil with varnish over it, might be best to try a test piece

Gel-Gloss for fiberglass, acrylics and cultured marble will help take the dullness out of your fiberglass. Comes in a pink can. I use my palm sander with a sticky backed foam pad that sticks to the sander. Better than a big orbital 2 handed sander. Wipe off the dry polish with a clean cloth. Then cover the fiberglass with McGuire's Liquid Wax for fiberglass (expensive but works well). Try this first before you paint. Good luck.
If you get some aqua buff 1000 from Florida and use a high speed buffer, 2200 or so rpm, then wax it after it will look like new. I used the Aqua buff 2000 on a deep blue hull and maintained it for many years. In Lauderdale you may get someone to work from a drawing to make your canvas and send it over on a boat
Wet stacking on turbos = nightmare. Generators service approx every 50 hours if on load. Check fluids, injectors fuel pump lift pump and air filters. Don’t forget alternator. Loving the project list...👍🏻
Question for you? Did you stop the window leak? First priority before repairing damage. Is the window trim just "trim" or is that what secures the window to the hull? I agree be very careful sanding as veneer is delicate. If the veneer is separated from the plywood you have to re-veneer and with the amount of black that may be your only option. We are re-fitting a Grand Banks 42 with a lot of teak work and my "captain" is pretty particular on wood work.
Get yourself a sailrite sewing machine, the have amazing UA-cam videos, you can get the machine and everything you need to make it yourself for about 3 to 4 thousand, plus you will have machine to make repairs.
Something that might be worth trying on the oxidized fiberglass is Bar Keepers Friend. It’s a cheap powdered cleaner you can find with other household cleaners. I get it at CDN tire. It is quite popular in the RV world , a little goes a long way. Follow it up with your favorite wax. I did a 20 year old, heavily oxidized RV and I was amazed at how easy it was. Check out some videos on it. It might be worth a try on a small section before giving up and painting it. Works great on stainless steel, glass, and rust too. BTW good call on the oscillating tool. They’re awesome tools, I wouldn’t be without one again. They have so many uses.
@@SearchingforCShels 👍 The Bar Keepers Friend will cut that old chaulky gel coat easily. It is a good last resort at saving it before painting. At under $5 there’s nothing to lose.
Absolutely loved the video. Y’all’s editing has improved since you were last on the boat. Did you buy a new editing program? I also like to see boat projects.
NEVER bring cardboard onto the boat. Always remove contents from cardboard boxes on the dock or the parking lot. I speak from past experience. Had to "bomb" the entire boat.
Motsenbockers Lift Off is a spray that will help remove your caulking along your rail. Spray, let sit for 4 - 5 minutes. Then carefully remove using a flexible razor blade. I recommend using painters tape next time you caulk for a super clean look. Good luck.
Always lots of projects when it comes to boats. We just installed 11 new LED lights in our engine room. Nice meeting you both last week. We’re over here on Island Time with a huge list of our own to get done. I have a Sailrite sewing machine if you need anything fixed quickly until you can get it replaced. Stay dry this week! 😉
Wonderful to have you back and getting the boat ship shape. Really enjoyed this segment and your use of Trello. Have started to use it but would benefit a great deal from your experience if you would put a video together showing how you started and the process you use to add, prioritize, and status projects. Love the Tollycrafts. Not many here on the east coast.
For painting the flybridge look into Alexseal paint. They now have an additive which flows the paint out so theres no need to tip - just roll and it levels out with a beautiful gloss
Thanks to both of you for creating another great video! We have a Mainship trawler in Punta Gorda area and have been using the kayak/SUP holders made by Magma and have been very satisfied with them for storing our kayaks. We're hoping to get to our recently constructed cottage in Cape Breton this summer if the border opens up so are keeping our fingers crossed 🤞. Keep up the good work on both your boat and the videos!
Great video, Thanks! You guys are really producing a quality product! Sure marine in Seattle has the little stove burner connectors along with pretty much any other part for your princess stove. I use my watermaker daily and am about a 50% stay aboard. I never take on dock water. Cruise RO is a company ran by cruisers. Their watermakers use zero proprietary parts. That means you are not held hostage by a manufacturer, or at rick if that manufacturer stops supporting a model for any reason.
Oh man! I wish we would have known that! We had the same stove with the same issues on Vancouver Island and we couldn’t find parts so we pulled it out and replaced it with a Force 10 - no regrets except for the price 😩
You're talking about Solar and new Batts, you ought to look up Will Prowse. This kid knows more about solar, batteries, and setting up systems than you'd believe. It might not be a bad idea to inquire about a consult, one 'tuber to another. He's well worth a follow.
Love the new season of videos! Great style! We recently purchased a Californian- super clean- but my OCD self got this and ran it anyway for any smells- www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JAP7388/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1- works great. Can't be on the boat with it running but after running it and airing out it removes odors - even diesel.
Just a comment already on the wood finishing, be careful with the sanding as it is a veneer and you could easily sand through it. Try using that same cleaner you used on your dinghy on the teak first, if that doesn't work a mixture of 50% bleach and water and scrub the teak with a soft bristle brush, it will remove all of the oils that were used in the finish, you can then refinish with lemon oil. You will need to finish the entire wall. I would try out a test spot first before you take out the sander as a last resort. I use the bleach solution on our patio furniture in Florida. Although I have not tried it yet I have heard good results with Epifanes Teak O Clean and Teak O Bello products. Fire suppression system, there is a sensor that might be your issue, try replacing it if you can find it. We had a similar problem with our old fume sensor in the old Sea Ray, it turned out to be the sensor. Having said that, the sensor came with the helm control unit and I replaced both keeping the same wire harness. I'm currently working on a lithium bank for the house bank on Tropical Horizons II, with a new inverter system and charging system. I can keep you up to date on our progress. Feel free to reach out through youtube or google
Thanks for this! The wood refinishing is probably the project we know least about. We don't want to ruin it. It is stained right now. Lemon oil is not going to match the rest of the boat, wouldn't I have to restain? Thanks again.
@@SearchingforCShels you really want to get in contact with Gordon Laco he is an expert in restorations and refinishing I attended his seminars at the virtual Toronto International Boat show. I'll go back to my notes and see if I can find his email address. Will get back to you soon. Teak is not stained and that looks like teak in your boat. The finish will either be an oil finish or a satin varnish, at least that has been my experience. No you won't need to refinish the entire cabin, I'll also contact the previous owner of our Burger who was a furniture restorer and finisher and knows what he is doing with wood. As for matching teak, it's all about the growth and the grain. Now newly refinished teak will tend to be lighter, but that will change with UV exposure. If that is teak and it looks like it is you will not be staining it you will be oiling it.. Send me a close up photo of the wood and the stained area. m.v.tropicalhorizons@gmail.com Cheers!
Hi Guys! So great to see you producing videos once again. Be happy you can do the projects. In Ontario, they just shut down all marinas Until May 20th due to COVID. We are not allowed on our boats at all, even to do work on the hard. The marina crew can work on boats, but we are not allowed at all on Marina property for the next month, so it's going to be a late start to an already short season. Frig !! So, quite happy to watch what ya'll are doin'... ! :)
Captain the gel coat on tolly craft boats is high quality, buffing should bring the life back. You already had the stripe redone on the bridge if I remember. Gel coat and paint are not treated the same. Ask locals for A good recommend for a boat detailer maybe the way to go then you should be able to maintain the shine. Lol my budgets were never a problem.
I understand. I used to be a pretty good detailer. Considered doing it as a job. Yes, the Tolly gelcoat is good, but it is no match for the Florida sun in the long term. Tolly also have a light blue layer under the gelcoat. That blue is starting to show through on our flybridge in the center. I think I may try a wet sand and a buff to see what happens. Thanks for the recommendations.
A lot if excellent projects to keep you busy and each one accomplished will bring great satisfaction of a job well done. Best of luck and are looking forward to following you both thru these tasks. Best of luck and THANKS for bringing us along. Love the MARINE MAIL TIME MINUTE (S).
Hi C-Shels from Peterborough Ontario. Laura and I have enjoyed watching your videos. We have been boaters for many years and it would certainly be a dream to be living aboard in the south. It really is informative to see both sides of the boating lifestyle, the seemingly overwhelming upkeep and projects vs. the rewards and beautiful time spent on the hook in paradise. Any boater knows it's a labor of love and the rewards always out weigh the time, hard work, and money spent to make things safe and reliable. Good Luck and we look forward to sharing your adventure on your You-Tube channel. Brent and Laura M.
Wet sand first before you buff, 1000, 1500 grit it will save on buffing time, masking tape on either side of where you're going to caulk and smooth out with your finger to do a professional job
Yes, that is good advice on the gelcoat. That may be the only thing that might bring it back. However, I think the gelcoat is getting really thin in the front middle of the flybridge so it's not going to be able to take much wet sanding.
Look into NRS inflatable paddle boards, look into Segway ninebot scooters. Are you getting the walker aircepts due to prolonged slow speed running? I am always worried about running slow for prolonged periods. I have cat 3196’s.
Happy you didn't find more after the year abandoning. I have suggestion on hatch that has soft spot. I strongly recommend removing and replacing completely the old core. Tolly used many different cores. Speculation is yours is wood plywood or balsa. Yes you can do a fix by cutting out soft place but replacing it all will be forever lol as boats go. I spent 33 years as motor yacht captain 11 years on tolly 60. Love the boats but all boats have short cuts. Good luck glad you are living your dream
@@SearchingforCShels I would use any core that doesn't have wood, the balsa will always be an issue. That's if you dont want have problem in the future. Balsa you already have I guess you can use it. If I had to recommend to an owner I would research all the alternatives. The exposure that hatch has makes it vulnerable to water and weather. The history of your vessel that I saw North Carolina winters are not extreme but nevertheless its enviable that the temperature changes effect fiberglass. Stress cracks are common as you have seen moisture is sucked in as temperatures change. Inspection of all outside decks probably you will find more soft spots. Remember the bridge side project. Captain anything wood is going to deteriorate. All vessels that are non custom have hidden issues. I have served as Captain on the best of them. All have issues. Tolly Craft built quality but had issues .
Any led lighting, including rope, really enjoy dimmable. #2 Probably Not practical or desired For your boat, but removable Glass panels for n some places? Other than storage issues, one time expense? Good luck on everything.

When you're going to be going through a large maintenance cycle, do you take your location into consideration? I imagine that a lot of money can be saved if you plan your location into the cycle. Good luck.
Thanks.
I just noticed that it appears that you are in Florida. I assumed you were in the Bahamas
You can make fender covers and covers for bimini rods so you don't burn new eisenglass
Thanks for the recommendations. I really think there needs to be a cutting compound on that gelcoat.
@@SearchingforCShels 👍 The Bar Keepers Friend will cut that old chaulky gel coat easily. It is a good last resort at saving it before painting. At under $5 there’s nothing to lose.
Some insurers will not cover boats with lithium batteries!
This is true, one must always consider that when upgrading.
I know it's stressful, but Matt can handle it and you both will be much happier after you get finished. Take care !
You two have inspired my wife and me to live aboard. Your channel is so valuable and real. Keep it up!
Absolutely loved the video. Y’all’s editing has improved since you were last on the boat. Did you buy a new editing program? I also like to see boat projects.
You can buy LED bulbs to replace the florescent bulbs with just a little simple rewire so you keep the same fixtures and remove the ballast.
Good luck.
Thanks for the info!
Nice meeting you both as well! Thanks so much for the offer.
A Marine should have a knife. Get a real knife. Use a machete to open those boxes! LOL
Thanks!
@@SearchingforCShels If you rip off the stain, it's the entire salon.
unless you want 1 wall a different colour.
@@SearchingforCShels I sent you the reply from Gordon Laco through your gmail account. Let me know if that helps. Cheers,
I’m following this as we have the same issue in the walls below the (replaced) portholes in the staterooms in our 40’ Ocean Alexander
Great video ! Love the projects segment - does the Kanberra gel really work ?
Maritime Mail Moments...
For budget. Our aft cabin canvas with strata glass was $11,500.
A lot if excellent projects to keep you busy and each one accomplished will bring great satisfaction of a job well done. Best of luck and are looking forward to following you both thru these tasks. Best of luck and THANKS for bringing us along. Love the MARINE MAIL TIME MINUTE (S).
Thanks Jerry! We are looking forward to that feeling of satisfaction. lol Cheers!
Thanks Brent! That is so nice to say. All the best fulfilling your dreams. Cheers!
IMHO, top priority is good life raft, a boat EPIRB, spinlock deckvests w/ EPIRBs and Immersion Suits.
You probably need to wetsand the fly bridge before you compound and wax it.
Thanks for the tip. What coring material would you use? I have some balsa aboard and was just going to use that in that area.
Tolly Craft built quality but had issues .
my favorite motor yacht channel :-) Keep the vids coming!
Aw thanks Michael. We will try. Cheers!
I am interested in buying your dinghy! Love the videos! You guys are awesome!!!
Ho-lee smoks on the canvas estimate!
Any led lighting, including rope, really enjoy dimmable.

Probably Not practical or desired For your boat, but removable Glass panels for n some places?
Other than storage issues, one time expense?
Good luck on everything.
Brook Crist outdoor youtuber her father has a canvas business the Canvas Factory Pompano Beach Fl. Good opportunity for collaboration
Hey You Two, Great video funny in places and interesting in others . When I saw you were getting mail and or stuff sent in the first thing I thought of was “Hey Sheldon gets a new drone “ ! Maybe next time . And as I have said before if I ever get a boat I want Sheldon to be my mechanic ! 🤪🤪🤪
Thanks! But you don't want me to be your mechanic... lol
Just finished watching the entire video... I just got done doing a lot of the same stuff you guys are doing. Feel free to reach out for any advice. I learned some thing the hard/expensive way!! Haha also, I’m getting ready to make my first Bahamas passage probably mod to late May. Would love to get your advice for a first timer on that passage.
Why does your list sound like my list ?
I am LOVING this new format. You guys are REALLY unlocking some amazing creativity!!!!
If your power cord connectors are not bad and cosmetics is the concern, put the black web cover on - Even if you buy new, put the black webbing on to protect the cord and it slides easier too.
Great to see you back onboard, your part of our Sunday AM routine until we can cast off on our voyage south from Nova Scotia. I can recommend either a Highfield or AB RIB’s..
Look forward to each new video has been my escape from the reality of life in Ontario thanks .Hoping to be back on georgian bay soon
Thanks so much.
Glad to see you guys getting ready for the season and glad you are doing well. For cleaning chair I would recommend trying to put Tuff Stuff on it it’s a great cleaner. If you apply it let it soak in then scrub the spot it should help to take some spots out.
Thanks JT. Appreciate the tips for the chair. We will try that.
@@SearchingforCShels Also, just curious, it looked like in the video you put aluminum foil in the microwave? That’s dangerous to put in a microwave. It can break your microwave.
Great video guys. Sounds like you are going to be very busy until you leave port. Have you considered recovering the furniture instead of replacing it? Also have you ever heard of the channel ask captain Chris you might want to email him to ask about people to do some of the work and projects you are talking about I think he is in the Vero Beech area but knows a lot of people in Florida. I like the new segment Marine Mail Minutes. LOL Have a great week.
Thanks for the recommendations. Yes, we follow Capt'n Chris as well. 👍
For your soft spots, a friend at our marina had soft spots on his deck and instead of opening them up he used a product called Inject a Deck. I believe it’s a FL company. Check it out before you get into a much bigger project. BTW we also had a Tollycraft but a 40 Sundeck. We loved her. Your interior is identical to ours.
Brown out will get that stain out.
So, we need furniture, new carpet to protect the floors, buff and wax, full detailing, cleaning the inside, and we may have an extra watermaker… Sound familiar! Check your email!
Interesting to see your feedback on AirSeps. Was the blow by soaking your air filter with oil?
enthralling video...well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great new project for the boat. Look forward to see the vids. Can you tell me the name of the song that you used in your last video intro... Thanks
Thanks. The song is "Back To It" by Lady Bri.
@@SearchingforCShels Thanks so much for the response. I was thinking of using is for a clip. Was it free to use and no copyright strike?? Thanks again
@@SomedaysHere we have a MusicBed subscription. So you would need that to use it I think.
When you're going to be going through a large maintenance cycle, do you take your location into consideration? I imagine that a lot of money can be saved if you plan your location into the cycle. For example, a state like Delaware doesn't have a sales tax which could save you a good amount on the cost of parts.
Funny, how bout marine mail time moments??
👍
Love the new segment you guys are a hoot LOL a lot of the projects are perhaps miniscule of course priority's a are must steam Kleene the chair
or just let it go
Thanks Grant, as always!
cost to recover and refurbish not worth it
With all those project's I think you'll be there until November 2022!!!🤣🤣 Very cute and funny video.
What Marina are you at??
Harborage
some great projects, long list, looking forward to seeing the new canvas, and definately the watermaker! You guys are my inspiration!
Thank you so much David.
The film-like touch you added to your videos was original. It is completely changing the type of entertainment you’re providing. For your chair, the tailor can add a zipper for about $10... FYI.
Thanks! You are probably right about the zipper. Good call.
Fleming Yachts usually go with At-Sea water makers. Not uncommon for Nordhavn to use them as well.
Thanks, I searched for At-Sea and didn't find anything. Is that name correct?
@@SearchingforCShels huh, I thought I responded already, guess YT glitched and ate it.

Will do.
Just clean them and you can get spray dye same or new cover… or replace!

That price for canvas seems high! I had my entire bridge canvas including bimini on my boat for 7500.
