Damian is the best! Love jump blues and I love Damian’s lessons not only for the great jump blues knowledge and skills he shares but also for his respect for the history. Way to go, Damian!
Your videos always manage to put a smile on my face! I wish I would’ve discovered your channel when I had first picked up guitar maybe then I would have never quit! Thank you Damian for awakening my love for blues.
Damians enthusiasm is infectious! Great teacher, great lesson and I agree with what someone else posted. Get one of his DVD's for really in depth lessons. Best wishes Damian.
That run at 6:25 over the C9 is insane. Everyone is always harping about playing chord tones. But that run contains the notes g#, b, d#, and b flat. (Basically a G#m9 chord). Of those 4 notes only the b flat is actually contained in a C9. Which goes to show you, to play interesting solos, you should occasionally stray from the chord tone dogma. As always, superb lesson. Here's to more in '24!
Great observation! I was wondering how to fit this into some convenient theory context but playing it over C9 makes that tough! C b9b13 M7? With the notes from C9 you have C, D, Eb, E, G, Ab, Bb and B all ringing in one measure! Sure sounds good though!!
@@richdunn9799 Yes. That's exactly what that chord is! Well done. I think it was Eddie Van Halen that said something like a guitar solo can be like falling down the stairs and all that matters is that u land on your feet. So u can play anything as long as you end on a chord tone. But if u play like that all the time then it's called jazz.
For a jump blues the underlying chords would normally be ii-V-I rather than V-VI-I. So if you think Am7 (or Am9), D7 (or D7 alt), G7 it matches that lead line better.
@@ted149 I agree. Just because that lick was played on a record back in the day doesn't mean it's good. And to my ears, it doesn't sound particularly good over the IV chord on the Teddy Bunn track.
This is great. First part of this is the first time I've played something that sounds cool without missing a beat (maybe a little). Thank you sooooo much.
Wow Damian that's a sweet solo I'm certainly going to enjoy playing that thanks for sharing merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and a happy and peaceful New year to you and thanks again buddy
You make it sooo enjoyable. Its never a chore watching/listening and learning to your videos. Have a great xmas mate. All the best from England UK🇬🇧🏴
Excellent lesson. You have one more subscriber. Let me just ask you a question, I need to do a typical rock and roll solo, 12 bars, something SIMPLE but with double stops. Do you have a video of something like that to help me not to make a fool of myself?. A simple solo that sounds something like Chuck Berry or Georgia Satellites. Thanks in advance.👏👏
Thank you very much. I have a few lessons in that style. Here's one to cehck out. Just search my name and this title "How to solo like Chuck Berry, w/tabs". I think you'll dig it. :)
I think you're great and have a lot to teach, but why are you talking like you're teaching children? Just talk liked you normally talk to adults. If that is how you normally talk, then I humbly apologize.
Fellow guitarists… Give yourself Damian’s DVD for Christmas for a stocking full of teaching goodness. Great stuff.
Thank you so much for the kind words. Cheers & Happy New Year to you :)
I guess I'm gonna have to go back to Swing School!
