- If something you grew up with still holds up, by all means, don’t abandon it. But I’m a firm believer in recognising and addressing kinks in such things and regarding things the way they are instead of how I remember them. Story structure means a lot to me, I strive to consider appeal from several angles, including but not limited to that of an average railfan, and I have been asked by viewers on many occasions what to my mind works and doesn’t work with various aspects of Seasons 1 to 5 of Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends.

you know in my au gordon IS great northern, and where he got his name gordon, simple his driver was drunk,so he sliired the words greath northern, into gordon since he didnt have nameplates , the name gordon stuck.
hell my backstory is simular to yours, i love the fact we both thought his name was a misunderstanding thats so cool.

A thought of how Cor becomes "Gordon." Passenger runs onto the platform late, thinks the message is saying what trains are where. Hears "Gordon's on platform 3." despite the message only being for 62404

Honestly, I love your version of the engines/history of Sodor, even though it's not something I'd do in my own head canon.
Your ideas, modifications and reasonings are extremely interesting in their own right, and researched. Plus you have an excellent presentation voice.
Side note I think TheUnluckyTug's use of an LNER D26 for his Edward model makes me want to see a purely LNER Sodor (and an LMS version too).

Very fascinating explanation, the edit of your own take on Gordon is amazing. An LNER Raven A2, with a modified boiler, still has Crewe elements from his rebuilt. I like how you explained how Gordon got his name, originally meant to be called Core but was mistaken for Gordon and so it stuck. Really look forward to see what your ideal characters or history of Sodor is like.

I love the idea of a Raven A2 on sodor. However... not Gordon. I would personally make 87546 into an A2 for some real hardcore competition to Gordon. But the idea of a one-off A2 rebuild sounds very interesting.
I'd like to image that this version would eventually be rebuilt with Walschaerts valve gear, in a similar vain to the NER Class S3 (LNER B16/2 or B16/3).
These small model recreation videos are pretty nice to watch. I would love to see Toby or Diesel in this style as well.
The GWR gang, or some of the narrow gauge engines? Spencer, or maybe Diesel 10!?

alot nicer looking, i guess? Makes him stand out and look grandious. Maybe add some extra red trim to the mainline fleet on the tender boogies, too? Take from the IRL Ravens?
I do like that look. I'll admit it's too tricky for me to edit. I'm not that good. Maybe one day I will be.
Plus, High-Speed Gordon was inspired by something that often happen to Stanier pacifics, so if Gordon had Crewe-built valve gear, it'd fit.
I'm on the fence. For now, I'm just going for a hybrid look.
@@MagicLampStudios Well, thankfully most simulations of the Raven A2 seem to be fairly slippy in the weather conditions in these trial runs. Could help Gordon stand out, have that beautiful but.. down right strange internal motion.
OK so update about this. I was looking it over and, I think that, since we have an outside motion in Henry, an inside motion in James. That we *should* have gordon be outside connection inside motion. *BUT* hear me out. Keep him a middle drive couple akin to the GWR engines. Same story, rebuilt at Crew, plus it would lend into the High Speed Gordon case keep closer to the insperation.

Wow, the rebuild Raven A2 looks so much like Model series Gordon that it could have been.
While your take is well thought out, I have a couple of issues with it. First, Gordon arriving in 1922 is important for the continuity, and secondly him being a Gresley A10 is important because he is referred to as Scotsman's brother. I don't think a Raven engine would be called a brother to a Gresley engine.
Here is my take: in Sodor-verse, Gordon simply takes the place of Great Northern, and the freakouts over the rebuild happened during his canonical rebuild and were directed at the Fat Controller instead of Thompson. I would, however, keep the external Walschaerts gear, so that he still looks like an A10.

He is built in 1923 and is an A1 his lner number is 4473 making him younger then scotsman while gresley was happy with his new designs he originally wanted sloped footplats on them so he tried this on great northern the prototype it is a success so he adds them to Gordon he is sold to sodor where he is nearly blown up by 98462 after he became a psycho then things play out like the railway series and he didn't go to crew to be rebuilt he went to Doncaster after ww2 and was rebuilt but asked the men to keep the sloped footplat to pay tribute to sir nigel gresley and he goes back to sodor in the spring of 1946. And things mostly play out like the railway series and seasons 5 onward once more

The LNER never had an a10. They only had a1s, a2s, and a3s, as well as the a1/2 and the a2/2s and a2/3s.
The A10 is another name for the A1

My ideal Gordon was a regular A1/3 build in 1923 the same year that he was sold to Sodor.In 1930 he had a incident with his splashers.He was send to Doncaster to be rebuild with A2 splashers.In 1956 Sit Topom Hatt bought the ralway from BR, and Gordon was renumbert from 70048 to 4.He dosen t retire in 2011.He pulls railtours on Sodor,but he can ne seen puuling fast expreses from Titmouh to Barrow on Furnes.Thats all.

a2s are cool they have 3 saftey valves and 2 whistles, for a lner engine 2 whistles is odd and 3 safety valves arent to common
Curious. COR was withdrawn in 1937 but Thomas is still number 1 in your series despite presumbly being built in 1949-1951. Is there a reason for this in your universe or is it juat a goof?

Honestly making Gordon not an A1/3 makes “Tenders for Henry” feel less significant. Then any LNER engine could’ve came to see him. But his siblingship with Scotsman made it more special and significant. But that’s just me.

"LNER A10" 💀 he was an A1/A3
A10 is the post-nationalisation (iirc) designation for an A1 that hadn't yet been rebuilt into an A3, it was changed due to Peppercorn rolling out his A1 class in the 40s.

He just does it with every engine he redesigns at the end for a laugh, turning their face the same colour as their paint.
