My Ideal Edward & James

If something you grew up with still holds up, by all means, don’t abandon it. But I’m a firm believer in recognising and addressing kinks in such things and regarding things the way they are instead of how I remember them. Story structure means a lot to me, I strive to consider appeal from several angles, including but not limited to that of an average railfan, and I have been asked by viewers on many occasions what to my mind works and doesn’t work with various aspects of Seasons 1 to 5 of Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends.

My ideal Edward and James is a rebuilt Ivatt D3 and a Fowler 4F (like UnluckyTugs)
Edward in the Dalby era had a "fatter" and slightly shorter looking boiler and it's the correct timeline (1890s).

My headcannon for james is he originally came to Sodor as a Class 28. After his accident, the Lancashire and Yorkshire heard of it, and made a deal with the Fat Controller to rebuild him to the design he is now, with the L & Y footing the bill, if the Fat Controller would share the results of the experimental design with the L & Y. The results weren’t up to par, so James was the only one of his design ever built.

for my ideal james he's a great central railway robinson j11 and actually speaks in an italian accent as in my universe nothing actually dertermins an engine's accent for example toby was built in england but his accent is welsh.Basically imagine francessco bernoullis' voice from cars 2 over james footage

Ok, these videos explains alot to me. I remeber seeing you idealised verisons of the characters before and being very confused by them. that being said, I can we do Gordon and Herny next? I really want to see your reasoning for making Gordon an A2.
Also you probably should plug that other channel that use these designs for. I didn't know it was thing until recent. Think it deverses more attention and I haven't seen you talk about much on here.

Nice headcannon, I like how you made the faces the smokebox doors. Though may I ask, why does James have red wheels? I don't think he necessarily needs them, though I think the yellow running board looks rather good on him, I think he should probably still have a red buffer beam though, most British steam engines in real life had that.
