- Out of all the narrations of this story I have always found Wayne June's to be my favorite. I haven't seen it posted before so I thought it would be a good time to upload it.
Enjoy.

I am adding this link for download as UA-cam as inundated this story with ads. Enjoy!

"As life ebbs, terrible vistas of emptiness reveal themselves."
Just remember that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
Perfectly said.
Hands down, June is the most fitting narrator for Lovecraft. I love his rendition of the Red Hook story.
You mean, hands down the best narrator ever
Same! Red Hook isn't Red Hook unless he narrated it.
Have you listened to his reading of "the thing on the doorstep"?
@@WolfmanXD it gives me shivers, his reading of The Shadow Over Innsmouth is superlative too
He sounds like he've seen all this horrible sh*t himself and was broken by the experience. His mastery of voice acting is just wonderful.
I bet H P Lovecraft would be very happy at the number of his stories printed and people reading his stories. makes it all worthwhile, that is what any writer wants, people to love the work.
Why yes, I shall listen to this, while playing Darkest Dungeon, and see how well they sink together with Mr. June. His voice is a treasure of profound worth, that no man should take for granted.
I play Conan Exiles and listen to this. Perfect combo
it is rumored that darkest dungeon 2 is gonna be based on this story
@@paveljanik9970 it is also rumored that there will be a darkest dungeon 2

Does Wayne June always speak with such gravity? When telling his wife he's popping out to the shop for some milk, or reading Green Eggs and Ham to his daughter?
W June is making green eggs and ham Sinister.
I will not eat them...Sam. I. Am.
@@eduardovitorino7924 Remind yourself that overcooking is a slow and insidious killer.
@@xN1Ks hahahah, this made my day! Still playing Darkest in 22’
"Wife: I depart now, to return soon--if the fates are kind--with a bounty of that whitish fluid you crave."
I don’t think Lovecraft or June could do any other work but this material. Absolute. Perfection.

clearly, you do not know about the wild shit of lovecraft's dream books, all of which are inspired by his own dreams. The shit is crazy, but also a really fun read.
Kudos to Wayne June for the reading of this tale and "The Lurking Fear."
“Ruin has come to our family”
You remember our venerable house high upon the moor opulent and imperial
Fell asleep listening to this and had some crazy ass dreams
Mr Wayne is da man! The BEST narrator for Lovecraft, hands down! He even narrated my audio book!
A superb story, perfectly narrated by Wayne June. That piece of artwork by Ivan Laliashvili is excellent too.
Reading Lovecraft is an art form andJune is the Master.
Welp, Darkest Dungeon brought me here.
You’re in the right place 🥂
Thee most wonderful story ❤️
This is the single best example of a story being enhanced by storytelling that I have ever heard.
Wayne June is the best. A true masterpiece!
A exquisite masterpiece. Wayne June has the perfect voice for this. I offer my deepest gratitude to Wayne for his works and to you for making this accessible. Utterly magnificent.
A time to perform beyond one’s limits!

@Bee Mindful A brilliant confluence of skill and purpose!
Glittering gold! Trinkets and baubles - paid for in blood.
Where’s that from? Or is it?
I'm looking forward to the second. The reference this work in the trailer now seems obvious.
@@TheShadowfakx It's a reference to an RPG called "Darkest Dungeon." It is a game which takes direct influence from Lovecraft fiction. The Narrator, Wayne June also voices for the game. Much of his commentary is used to kick a player while they are down and praise the player if their characters are successful.
The quote above, is one of the many voice lines from Wayne June.
It is known for it's difficulty and stress meter mechanics which afflicts your chosen characters. If the game seems intimidating, there are many youtubers who made streamed recordings playing the game.
@@wh3nderson95 Thanks, man.
@@TheShadowfakx just to add to Hunks statement, even the praise is often backhanded, tainted or is some sort of bleak doublespeak.
I came to listen to this since it could be the setting of Darkest Dungeon 2. So imagine my suprise when our boy Wayne June is the one who read the book.
Didn't think of that that could be great !
I am excited too.
It's too bad they are adding all those filters to his voice in Darkest Dungeon. His natural voice would be far more fitting imo.
Wasn't surprising to me, since in the Darkest dungeon documentary, they mentioned that H. P. Lovecraft audiobooks are how they found Wayne June
@@holysecret2 cause the filters are otherworldly cause the characters he represents in both games are already dead
He has the perfect voice for this
I concur
First time I heard him was narrating ''The Horror at hook hill'' - very effective - brought the horror to life
This guy is a good narrator, no doubt about that, however, I think I prefer the more crisp English accent of the HorrorBabble channel narrator Ian Gordon.
It fits better with the monstrous story being related here.
This guy is just too relaxing.
I'm not scared, I'm feeling cosy and want a nap! 🙂
Yes and he reads it at absolutely the right pace…ALL the others read it too quickly so it sounds rushed.
Thank you so much. The reading is outstanding!!
Mr. June should read "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" if he hasn't already. Lovecraft's best work that is.
You might enjoy this lady's rendering of it -- ua-cam.com/video/sMUb2WATD_Y/v-deo.html -- it's like a long bedtime story read by a fond maiden aunt (who really loves cats), and it's perfect for that particular tale.
(I say this though I yield to no one in my admiration for Mr. June's readings. Especially "The Thing on the Doorstep," where his contrast between the narrator and the nerdy guy are pitch-perfect.)
Tried to like it twice... Wayne nails it again!
Great narration! Love this guys voice. Thanks for the upload 😊
Once you've heard this man-
Mr Wayne June, read Mr Lovecraft aloud then there is no going back to the normality of just any narrator, reading his literature.
Been looking for this version for years! Thank you!
I can’t believe it! I wasn’t sure it if actually existed and here it is, finally! Wayne June is a revelation.
He should read Conan stories
No one can read these better than Wayne. I wont listen to anyone else narrate Lovecraft
Thanks so much for posting the link. This is the only volume I didn't have, and I refused to pay $6000 on Amazon!
Listening to the whole thing made me appreciate Wayne June even more.
100:th comment in favor of being an appreciator of Wayne June and pleasing the algorithms
Thank you so much for the upload. Recently got into Wayne June's voicework and never went back, and was looking for work he had done but couldn't find it physically. This works wonderfully to fill that gap!
I’ve listen to many versions of At The Mountains Of Madness and Wayne June’s reading is by far THE BEST!!!
Masterfully read-
It's like I'm listening to Lance Henriksen reading H.P. Lovecraft. EPIC.
Perfect lead-up to DD2 which will in fact take place in a arctic setting.
OH MY GOD! WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE!?!?
Your voice is like butter to my ears.
Wayne june can keep me captivated or he can help me sleep, win win!!
The poppy and the pistol....a fitting end.. to my folly.
"A man in a robe claiming communion with the Divine? Madness."
Thank you so much for uploading this! The internet has ruined my brain and I no longer have the attention span required for reading books, and last time I searched, I could not find this one narrated by Wayne June on youtube. I could have listened to some other loser narrate it, but why settle for less? Now I can experience this novel the greatest way possible.
Great narrator to voice a master storytellers work
I love Wayne June doing Lovecraft. He definitely ran into a lot of words for the first time and didn't check how to pronounce them in this one though. Still, he gets nothing but likes from me.
I fear those penguins more than anything else!
This is an awesome day off, listening to this! This narration is fantastic. 💯
June could read a cook book and I would sit there intensely!
"Remind Yourself That Overconfidence Is A Slow And Insidious Killer."

Only book I read in my life. It was good
There is a new illustrated edition
I pray you aren't serious that this is the only book you've ever read.
@@raymondmedlin3138 If you’re going to exclude academics, E-books and plays then it’s the only book I finished.
I don’t fancy reading a hobby.
My favourite narrator
I have to say he's definitely one of my favorites as well. especially for this particular story he is arguably the best.
That being said I also love Gordon Gould. There's just something about his voice that really lends itself well to an HP Lovecraft story.
Ruin... has come to the Antarctic...
Gorgeous work!
Its been ages since I read this, I need to listen this. There is just something about ancient civilizations hidden beneath the ice. This is one of my favorites, though to be frank, they all are very good stories. Shame that we never got at the mountains of madness movie.
This is so epic!!!
Can someone e explain what this is all about please
? Lovecraft?I was hypnotized by the magic voice and slumbered on and off through the dark and lonely night with my headphones on so only heard fragmented pieces thanks.
Amazing reading! Would Love chapter timestamps on these longer videos tho
This is quite the offering.
This is the best narration that exits. Full stop.

Ruin has come to our expedition...
Alternative History: During the Cold War the USSR discovers ancient horrors at Novaya Zemlya, which nearly matches the lat/lon given for the mountains beyond the "Mountains of Madness" that even the elder things feared. The USSR decides to just glass the place and labels it as a "nuclear test site" after taking care of business.
Is this the guy from Darkest Dungeon?
I love a good sleepy n soothing yet cosmically disturbing n beautifully retold bedtime story.
Adult bedtime Stories are gonna be the next big thing.
Thank you for create this vid with mr. Wayne's voice.
Can I ask, for know: Subtitles will be great addition for non English-speaking people who listen this audio, may you add some subs?
It would be great,i can understand English while reading it but im horrible at understating someone talkinh english, and HP Lovecraft Books have a hard vocabulary so i would apreciate it
Gasoline & dynamite . . I look frankly at the crackling fire
Overwhelmingly the most significant literary reference to the Arctic are The Peri Reis Maps.
I personally like to think that the shapeshifting alien from The Thing could be the nameless horror laying beyond the far western range. The ship may have crashed in the area at some point during or before the Elder Things arrival, and its presence was made known as bits of the biomass washed down the river from the mountains. Naturally they saw how it would absorb and imitate any living thing it touched, and vowed to keep the rest of it imprisoned behind the mountains lest it absorb and replace their entire race. The few that were aware of its existence kept it's nature a secret to avoid panic, just insisting that it was a nameless evil that must never escape. I'm not sure about the beam of light or strange lightnings, although those could be associated with the strong magnetism of its craft which it may have attempted to repair. Yeah I know theres numerous problems with the theory but hey, it's kinda interesting 🤷♂️
Cool idea, but doesn't the Shoggoth check all the same boxes as The Thing?
@@lastofmygenerationyeah it does, and perhaps that was how they created the Shoggoths, from bits of the Thing that came down in the river. Most of them wouldn't even know.
Wayne June is one of the best reader on the web. It would be nice if everything he read was available online. I hope he does the stories of the whole Lovecraft Circle, luckily there are writers who keep the Cthulhu mythos alive. (Book of Cthulhu vol. 1 and vol. 2 and to my surprise The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.) I hope that the spell of the Mythos is strong enough to absorb the discovery of the real history, and not the academic point of view. It is scientifically proven that the Sphinx is older than 4500 years.
And there are so many Out of Place Artifacts who prove the new paradigm. There MUST have been a highly advanced civilisation before the Younger Dryas. Sorry, I got a bit verbose in my reply, but I hope you like it. All the best from Holland.

Quite fascinating in spots but unnecessarily long
I respectfully disagree .Generally I prefer his shorter stories but I feel that the slow build of this one really enhances the conclusion , just my opinion.
I also find myself almost forgetting about the horror and being drawn into the curiosity much like the characters of the story.
What the hell. Ads every ten minutes ruined this...

Just one big utterly boring monologue of easily imagined indulgence.
Hi! :-) not a fan of Lovecraft?
You could apply that to almost any narrative though. Lovecraft and his body of work are interesting because science fiction wasn't a thing when he wrote it, not properly. It is indulgent but in the best kind of way.
It's too bad you feel that way
Don’t be silly.
Well, you're not an easily impressed bunny, are you? Perhaps Lovecraft isn't for you.
Love the narrator's voice. Reminds me of Stefan Rudnicki, whom I love.
