In English this piece was known as "The Hot Canary" I remember seeing this exact performance on the Ed Sullivan show. I was in about year two of violin lessons at school and had just started private lessons at the local conservatory. I was age 12. This was the first time I had ever seen almost all of the violin acrobatics she did. I had never seen left hand pizzacato (plucking the string), harmonics, alternate pizz and bowing up to that time. A girl in our high school orchestra when I was in the junior high orchestra, who was clearly the best player we had in several decades did a version of this. It was also broadcast on pop music stations for several weeks. My dad wondered when I would be able to play it. LOL While I became (ultimately) a fairly decent violinist and played in symphony orchestras, I was not one to do acrobatics.
One of the most amazing musical acts I have seen on television. And it seems like Miss Neglia is still entertaining folks today, working on Royal Caribbean cruises!🛳
How charming! I've seen it performed by Florian Zabach, but never with this much charm and "hamming it up". This is never done today because the kids are too serious.
This is my aunt Maria! Read all about her in my last book, MUSIC IS IN OUR BLOOD, available on Amazon!
Hi Jim!

Phenomenal!!
What a lucky man! She must have been a loving stitch!
I'm so glad you wrote about her! You ought to post about her in Wikipedia - there's little to no information about her on the internet.
