    Here’s an awful theory, since Tomar Re went to great efforts to absorb the dangerous radiation that would destroy the planet, it probably meant that anyone monitoring the radiation looking for issues would have a harder time noticing, so potentially in his efforts to save Krypton, Tomar made it impossible for Jor-el to convince the council since the radiation readings wouldn’t have lined up with his predictions, and likely would have looked different from a standard “world ending event” after tomar’s stalling efforts.

    Fun Fact for everyone: Jan-Al was a Kryptonian, and was one of the first seven beings in history to receive a Green Lantern ring.
    Less Fun Fact: She accidentally blew herself up a few hours after getting her ring, because she had an "overflow of willpower". This was before the guardians perfected the art of making lantern rings, and she became the first green lantern to ever die.

      Energy powerful enough to destroy a Kryptonian who was under the light of a Yellow Sun, and in the vicinity of the Life Entity. All because the early rings had no safety precautions on them and she got filled with energy of the Emotional Spectrum. That is what would happen to the users of the Phantom Ring, but in the Phantom Ring's case it would have been far more colorful and destructive.

      They are hated because unlike the superheroes that we see in costumes like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Cap, mutants have powers at birth and that leads to them being strange in the eyes of humanity. While the metas and other characters with powers usually take up a costumed identity and start doing good right after getting their powers.

    I remember reading a comic when I was a kid in the late 80's or maybe more around the early 90's where Superman got a Green lantern ring. I like to think that in Nolan's "Man of Steel" the reason that Krypton abandoned it's space colonies was because they fought the Guardians in a war and that the results were the Kryptonians cease their space efforts and the Guardians then developed the Manhunters as a result of the conflict with Krypton since their forces were decimated as well.

    We learned from Young Justice season 4 episode 20 that Krypton was in Sector 2813, which is under the protection of Tomar-Re. His failure to get there in time to save the planet still haunts him, especially since he was close friends with Superman's family.

    Like you said, Tomar-Re did everything he could that was allowed by the guidelines to help the Kryptonians and Krypton, it's not his fault that the Kryptonians decided to ignore the warnings of Jor-El and Kryptonians should be grateful that Tomar-Re had spent so much time extending the life of their planet as much as he did and not be mad at him. Tomar-Re wasn't allowed to evacuate the people.

      Most of the Guardians keep themselves emotionally detatched from worlds on an individual level and only look at the universe as one big picture. Though I believe Ganthet may be one or two of them who morns the lost of the worlds they fail to save as Ganthet is the one among them with the most humanity among them. If it were up to Ganthet alone I'm sure he would have allowed Tomar-Re to do everything possible to save the Kryptonians.

      So why did the Green Laterns Corp did not interfere in World War 2 against the Nazis?
      Why was it bad when Sinestro killed the Ruling council of his planet, installed a puppet government and became de-facto dictator of his planet using the green power ring?
      Almost sounds like a "Prime Directive" right there.

    • @patricklyons794
      @patricklyons794 7 років тому +75

      Christopher G The Nazis were human, with human weapons. If aliens had been arming then, then the Green Lantern would have intervened. As for Sinestro, he was one of their own. The threat was the Smurfs' fault, so they had to stop it.

    • @patricklyons794
      @patricklyons794 7 років тому +41

      WajiRock the Smurfs CREATED the Martian races. A true Martian was too powerful. So the Smurfs intervened, splitting them into the White and Green. Since the bonding element was fire, the Smurfs gave the Martians a psychological fear of Fire, so no new true Martians would exist.

      After getting shut down by Superman apokolips started messing around more with earth, but before that both they where still going around to other planets and ravaging them for resources. That or gathering the knowledge and then blowing them up (in the case of brainiac.) Both are examples of times I felt the lanterns dropped the ball on at lest investigating the situation. It all comes down to moot nitpicking plot holes of trying to connect such varying stories.

    A couple of points here. At least in the Silver age, the story was that Tomar-Re was traveling to Krypton when he got caught by a yellow solar flare and was knocked out. By the time he recovered, Krypton had already exploded. And another point, far less known - Kal-El's rocket actually had a partial failure of its guidance system, and it was the Guardians that redirected it towards Earth. I think this was explained in one of the Origins storylines. Still not a bad video here.

      It was a brutal civil war because of shit that happened on both sides. The white martians were ostrisized because of the way they look and for past actions. Green martians were smart but also afraid of white martians killing them as they had in their own middle ages. So it all reached a boiling point of hate and killing that consumed the whole civilization.

      Aaron Nicholls read somewhere the Guardians of the Universe separated them as they used to be one being. It was out of fear of what would happen if they got interstellar capabilities. I can imagine Zod and his military loyalists opposing forming diplomatic ties with Green Lantern Corp as they would see that as diminishing Krypton as a sovereign galactic power.

I don't know it's intentions however it can affect the behavior of all the people it infects (every human included). The problem is that life forms with the X gene are immune to sublime, meaning it cannot live off of them. So sublime has been forcing humans to believe that they hate mutants so as to destroy the mutant race so mutants cannot become the dominant species and thus kill off Sublime. This wa written in Grant Morrison's new X men issue 100 and 30 something. I hate this reason so I'd just day that the humans are subconsciously afraid of being made the minority species.

    I feel like there are a few instances of green lanterns saving planets, or at least being instructed to do so, in the comics. The only one that I can name off the top of my head is during flashpoint when the Oans instructed Abin Sur to deviate from standard procedure and not save earth from erupting in order to save the white lantern diety thingy. Comics are full of these sort of plot holes though.

    Okay folks, here's a fact that should be obvious but isn't (and I understand why. Someone else had to have post it before I got it.)
    Krypton actively ignored one of their most important scientist. Someone who had the most advance tech, who was extremely smart and understood the most about the planet was blantenly ignored. Even if the Green Lantern ignored the gaurdians' rule, no one would believe her. It was pointless and the gaurdians knew it. They caught on to this cycle of people being ignorant in their ways after living for years, so they knew sending someone was pointless. It's a sad truth.

    Interesting little story with Star Trek's Prime Directive idea thrown in. However that only applies to the Pre-Crisis era. For the Post-Crosis era there's a far simpler reason for where was the Green Lantern for that sector when Krypton blew up. A single Green Lantern cannot be everywhere at once. This was proven when Hal Joradan couldn't prevent the destruction of Coast City during the Reign of the Supermen. He simply wasn't there to prevent it as he was on some other mission. And considering how one planet blowing up is a tiny event in comparison to how big a sector is, it's no different than one police officer chasing after a mugger, while a bank robbery is happening on the other side of town. You would think the Guardians of the Universe would assign FAR MORE than 1 Lantern per sector for ALL SECTORS.

Strangely though, I had been under the impression that Krypton was immensely far away from Earth, as in being at least a handful of galaxies away...? At least, that's what seemed to be the case in _'SUPERMAN: The Movie' (1978)._ Also, I can't help but notice that the Oans, like the Jedi, seem to have some really stupid rules about eliminating emotion as a determining factor of decision making... and how that invariably leads to precisely the disasters they supposedly want to avoid.

Having already the powers of Superman when he put on the ring everything glowed green around him. He did not keep it long though, he took the ring off after a moment and said, I have enough power, give it to another. I can't remember who offered him the ring. Seems like he was President in that issue as well.
