Say what you want about the N64 version but it has undeniably the best intro. Instead of being sort of whimsical it has this dark and moody atmosphere perfectly setting up the tone. The tension rises and rises until BAM! Title drop! God i love that whole sequence.
Have you seen how terrible the title screen is on the PS2 version? It has Ubisoft splash screen, then Renderware (kiss of death apparently) splash screen, and then just the title with black background and no demo mode. Intro only comes when you start a game though and is fine. Same as N64 I think.
I know this is really old but is the N64 version considered bad? It's the version I played as a kid and I always loved it the most :( I think the hall of doors is one of the best hub areas ever!
Wow this is the most nostalgia I've felt in a long ass time. Five years old sitting in my brother's room watching him play this game on his N64...I feel so old now
Hell yeah, man! My little brother used to sneak in early, early morning and play the N64 and before that the SNES and SEGA Genesis lol. We're all much older now.. and I miss it. I get sad sometimes because I wish I could wake up to that again. It annoyed me when I was younger but you never know what you got until it's gone lol.. I guess I'm just sad that the so-called, "good old days" are long gone. My brother is married now, which is great, but I'm still 32 and single.. and a heroin addict. He doesn't talk to me all that much. Can't really blame him since I'm a fucking loser. I lost another job to my addiction recently, I thought I had a grip on it, I really did. Wasn't even that good of a job but still. A job is a job, right? My parents are divorced now, too. Father is/was/is dating a crazy bi-polar chick and has had two kids with her. A half-brother and half-sister, god bless 'em, but it's weird sometimes. They're both still young. Living the, "good" life although theirs is much worse than me and my little brothers. I feel bad for them, sometimes, honestly. I hope my dad doesn't walk out on them like he did us. They deserve better. If I could go back in time and live in those glory days just once I would. Family sitting together playing Mario Party eating Domino's pizza with wings! Parents would get tired and head off to bed and my brother and I would stay up and play our more "serious" games like The Legend of Zelda or something lol. Just one more day like that would be great. Sometimes I pray that I have a dream about it. Gotta push on though. Gotta think positive. Honestly, though.. I'm tired. Really tired. Tldr? Really depressing rant about my life story lol! Meh, just skip it.
3:03 that kind of transition from cutscene to character gameplay is a staple in video games now, but that shit blew my mind back in the day. This game had so much atmosphere, it really was my favourite game for a long time.

Roland Desjarlais actually I named my account after Falco from Star Foxeven though I don't play Star Fox as much as I used to, and yes I got it on the SNES. Its actually very fun you should try it. Also my N64 should come today, tomorrow, or the day after, hopefully it will come today. I've played an N64 but never owned one. I'll probably change my username to MegaMario0709 soon, but anyways, I recommend buying a Retron 5 from Amazon. It doesn't have 100% compatibility but it plays most GBA, GBC, GB, SNES, NES, Famicom, Super Famicom, SEGA Genesis, and if you have a power base converter, SMS games.
Falco Lombardi Yeah. I know who Falco is. I love StarFox, and the N64 is one of the best consoles ever. What games do you plan on getting? I recommend a lot. Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye 007, Conker`s Bad Fur Day, StarFox 64, Rayman 2, and that`s just naming a few, and if you have friends or family members that play games. Mario Kart 64, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Super Smash Bros.
I don't care what anyone say. The N64 is the best version! The Raymanese makes the game feel immersive, the music is epic, the graphics are amazing, and it's not unnecessary extended or cut! Best version in my opinion.
A lot of people criticize the N64 version for having a shitty soundtrack compared to the others... yeah the sound quality may be lower, not as realistic, whatever... but I prefer the arrangements in the n64 version over the others. The intro music and the Cave of Bad Dreams are just a couple examples
And with the exception of the playstation versions, there is Raymanian, not Raymanese. Loved the Dreamcast version to death though it missed some sounds. However, N64 audio quality is inferior to Dreamcast and PC, but there are hidden sounds that compensate for it.
The nostalgia I feel from this is unsettling...this game was so fun as a kid yet creepy at the same time...lol I didn't know how to play correctly at that point
Holy shit, that's some of the best graphics I've ever seen on the N64. Honestly, it almost looks like a GameCube game, and it's very close to the 3DS version's graphics.
I'd definitely say its graphics have aged badly. Every main 3D Mario game after it looks a LOT better. But I still like them, they have a charm in a way.
I sunk hours if not days into this game as a kid... almost beat it, but I could never get past the flying shell part in the pirate ship. Great game, thanks for uploading this! ...It brought back memories
Rayman 2 is a really fun game because of all the cool things you can do. You can waterski, fly, ride a bomb with legs, and so much more! Plus the battle action is great! You can shoot laser balls out of your hand to save the world from pirates! It's fun!
This game is proof that level design is the most important aspect of a game. The gameplay left a bit to be desired, but the levels never once dissapointed me.
Wow...a part of my childhood/early teen years here...and I am 28 now. Used to play this game with friends, we all played, helped each other, it was so much fun. Geez, I better go before I start getting all nostalgic. Great N64 game, hands down!
I think part of the reason why this game is so special and so amazing is that it takes a very different tone to all the other Rayman games. This one is quite dark when you think about it, and it has a somewhat oppressive, at times creepy atmosphere. The ambience and music is not nice or cheery, it's suspenseful
Man, even Murphy was scary as shit. Whispering with that wide ass grin. No wonder I constantly restarted this game to the first few levels because it scared the shit outta me.
Hard to believe I remember I was in a daycare and they had a basement for the big kids, and there were two rooms, each for boys and girls, I would always hang out in the boys room and they had an N64, me and the boys would go on to play this non-stop. So many memories.

Best adventure game for me. So glad my little brother bought this for me on my birthday as a kid. We both had a habit of buying games for eachother on birthdays that were actually games who ever was buying wanted and not really the birthday boy
This game is my childhood! I never finished it, we moved to the US and didn’t pack our games in the 2 luggage’s we brought with us. By the time I spoke English well enough to find this game, it no longer works on modern formats. But this is so satisfying to see.
I played it a lot as a kid and just started it again today on an emulator. I think this one of my all time favorite games. The music in it is just soo trippy
It says in this description this version has poorer graphics but doesn't say than what as this blows the PS1 version away but then the Dreamcast and PC version is better than this, but it's still a great looking game on the N64.
Can't believe how old this game is. Used to play this but I wasn't able to finish the game because I couldn't save. Eventually I was able to play the game again when I got a digital copy of it on my 3ds. I always like the music in this version.
This is one of the best 3D platformers of the N64 era, but it's underrated because it came out for just about every console and you can't use it as ammo to win console wars lol.
One of the most wonderful game in my gaming history. Also the first game I beat all by myself without looking up solution or walkthough. Quite a challenge to a 12 old boy but it was worth it.
One of my favorite platforming/adventure games. I don't know why, but I always loved platforming games that had a bunch of lava levels in them lol My favorite levels in Rayman so happen to be filled with rivers of lava. In Ocarina of Time the Fire Temple is my all time favorite temple, the temples and sections in Shadow Man are the best, etc. I just like how these games incorporate so much platforming around something so simple as lava.
Good times man. I had not the N 64 memory card so I left it on all night. My fam went on vacation for a week and I left it on. Only to come back home and to a blown fuse
i have a distinct memory of playing a boss in this game where you have to shoot like 4 things in the sky to swing close enough to shoot him. can anytime link me the timestamp to where that is? would bring back my 11 year old memory. thanks :)
I had so much fun with this game as a kid that it could really be mistaken with one of Rare's gems. Anyway, I tried emulating this to experience my childhood again but I got into an emulating glitch where the orbs you could carry around were invisible. I couldn't complete a level because of that.
I didn't know about the ps2 version. I've only played the n64 version. The games on n64 are so much better than the ps games 👍 the atmosphere is amazing! My childhood
The soundtrack kinda sucks on the n64 version because of the limitations of having no CD compatibility you should either go with the Dreamcast version the PC version or the PS2 version. *A handy tip for everyone who wants to play this awesome classic :)*
I have the PS2 version and probably the biggest issue with it is the framerate, which is fine most of the time but not as good as DC and in some scenes it chugs. I haven't played the others but the PS2 version is also seems to be a little buggy in my experience. Not sure if all versions have the same things I perceive as problems though.
This is one of the greatest games ever made! Those french people really know how to do games (like Twinsen, for example). But what the hell with the intro music, it's very different than the version I have (PC).
This game is starting to grow on me though I have always found it a little tedious for some reason. Mostly puzzles that I got stuck on and couldn't figure out for ages, and things not working as they should which might just be down to the PS2 version being buggy, I don't know?
Honestly this and PC versions are better than the PS1. This one looked a bit dull in comparison and only 800 lums to get, also the ship stage for the fourth mask is my favorite (PS lacks of this stage)
oh my god I just remember that I bought this game back in 2003 from my school teacher's son's room in her house. i'd actually give it back to my teacher's son. then i bought rayman 3 for $39,99 over game stores in 2004 and this brings back soooo much many memories that i've played rayman games back in the day (i'd never played rayman 1 before but i have just played the gba version don't get me wrong xD) Origins was good btw i'd never played legends i've only played the demo of wii u version over at Future shop (yes i'm from canada and this store was canadian and it was now renamed best buy canada) i'm still hoping if ubisoft should probably announce an another 3D rayman game after origins, legends and adventures
I remember taking 3 hours to get into the first pirate.. more than 20 years later a discover that i takes only 17 minutes.. best game from my childhood
How many memories!! I still remember that I completed all the game on my DS at the age of 12, but I have never succeed in defeating that fucking final!☹ I think I will replay Rayman 2 on my pc as soon as possible, too funny and marvellous.
I completed this game on psx and when I am seeing this....i prefer this version more, prefer conversations dialouge to be more like this and especially for its music prefer it a lot more than PSX version o o. I never played this game on N64 version lol so I watched through the whole thing here, a memorable adventure with better feelin on N64 as u goes against Razorbeard in the end 🤣. (I like Mr.Dark from 1 more personally 😁😁) Great playthrough from NPI and great Rayman2 video from World of Longplays here 👍.
Daniel Dozza I dont think 60fps was a thing back then! Even ps3 didn’t run games in 60fps! So i guess it runs at 30fps on console! Ps4 /Xbox One were like the first consoles with some games at 60fps i guess
@@alexanderfinck9586 Of course it was. F-Zero X and Super Smash Bros run at 60 fps. But for those games it makes sense, because their graphics aren't as good as that of other games. This one however, looks so good that it's hard to believe that it runs at 60 fps.

It would’ve been better if like the N64, PlayStation 1, and others could have a Memory Card included in the box.

Good times man. I had not the N 64 memory card so I left it on all night. My fam went on vacation for a week and I left it on. Only to come back home and to a blown fuse
imagine what kind of super brains are needed to create a piece of art like this.
i have a distinct memory of playing a boss in this game where you have to shoot like 4 things in the sky to swing close enough to shoot him. can anytime link me the timestamp to where that is?
would bring back my 11 year old memory. thanks :)

Michael Festo 33 38? did you give me the wrong time stamp?
Lol that's why I came here
Isn't that the ice boss at the beach level where you get like your 1st or 2nd mask~

I know this is on an emulator, but I miss the transitions between scenes
I had so much fun with this game as a kid that it could really be mistaken with one of Rare's gems.
Anyway, I tried emulating this to experience my childhood again but I got into an emulating glitch where the orbs you could carry around were invisible. I couldn't complete a level because of that.
Come on, Ubisoft, port this gem to Switch!
Just get an n64, so many great games like this one
They took some of the opening theme from 007: Goldeneye and I loved the dark theme of this as a kid
I didn't know about the ps2 version. I've only played the n64 version. The games on n64 are so much better than the ps games 👍 the atmosphere is amazing! My childhood
I don’t even know how long I spent stuck around the beginning of this game lol.
I recently completed this on my n64 - great fun! I love Rayman games!
Nice. I'm still in the process. 🤙
Vesohag
Dude that intro music was epic! Better soundtrack in my opinion.
Axel was almost deadly accurate with his shots in this version.
i love the ambient of game, the atmosphere of game is beautifull
11:14 my favorite music
I remember playing this game when I was 7 or 8 and i could NOT for the life of me get past the wall at 8:00 and he just made it look so easy 😂😂😭😭
The presentation is years ahead of its time.
This is probably the best version of Rayman 2 because of the music.
😉Damn your good😮I couldn't do that on my first try😅4:01:29 4:15:17
😁My Favorite also the hardest stage ever and music is so serious 3:23:24😉
Una historia muy agradable en un juego que es totalmente diferente al 1er Rayman.
I can't believe when I was 9 years old, I finished this whole game. You'd figured as kids, you would never reach far. I is smart! Lol
This game is starting to grow on me though I have always found it a little tedious for some reason. Mostly puzzles that I got stuck on and couldn't figure out for ages, and things not working as they should which might just be down to the PS2 version being buggy, I don't know?
One of my all time favourite games finally gets a longplay. The PS2 version is the best version IMO!
smolleni the Dreamcast version is better.
Honestly this and PC versions are better than the PS1. This one looked a bit dull in comparison and only 800 lums to get, also the ship stage for the fourth mask is my favorite (PS lacks of this stage)
Ahh the nostalgia! Never beat the pirate ship where i had to ridebthe rocket
My childhood in a nutshell
oh my god I just remember that I bought this game back in 2003 from my school teacher's son's room in her house. i'd actually give it back to my teacher's son. then i bought rayman 3 for $39,99 over game stores in 2004 and this brings back soooo much many memories that i've played rayman games back in the day (i'd never played rayman 1 before but i have just played the gba version don't get me wrong xD) Origins was good btw i'd never played legends i've only played the demo of wii u version over at Future shop (yes i'm from canada and this store was canadian and it was now renamed best buy canada) i'm still hoping if ubisoft should probably announce an another 3D rayman game after origins, legends and adventures
I remember taking 3 hours to get into the first pirate.. more than 20 years later a discover that i takes only 17 minutes.. best game from my childhood
That lob at 1:14:56 was " chefs kiss "
How many memories!! I still remember that I completed all the game on my DS at the age of 12, but I have never succeed in defeating that fucking final!☹ I think I will replay Rayman 2 on my pc as soon as possible, too funny and marvellous.
Still jamming to the intro 20 years later

Oh man
I completed this game on psx and when I am seeing this....i prefer this version more, prefer conversations dialouge to be more like this and especially for its music prefer it a lot more than PSX version o o.
I can't see through the video, but does this game run at 60 frames per second on the console? Because it does on the emulator.
Daniel Dozza I dont think 60fps was a thing back then! Even ps3 didn’t run games in 60fps! So i guess it runs at 30fps on console!
Ps4 /Xbox One were like the first consoles with some games at 60fps i guess
@@alexanderfinck9586
Of course it was. F-Zero X and Super Smash Bros run at 60 fps. But for those games it makes sense, because their graphics aren't as good as that of other games. This one however, looks so good that it's hard to believe that it runs at 60 fps.
Daniel Dozza
Oh wow! Didnt know! But i guess it’s still like the minority of games that run in 60 fps!
I remember playing this game. I think I still have this game, I still have the N64.
i had rayman ds which is basically the same game as this just ported onto the ds but it was fun af but it had a scary feeling tho
Best game made❤️ scared me as a kid but so fun🤘🏽☺️
2:24 Gibberish
Ly's voice used to creep me out
I don't know why but the things at 8:22 used to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid.
Rayman 2 was released 20 years ago holy shit
