Glenn's story is that he moonlights as a woman's shoe salesman on the weekends and his wife and two kids and chicken of a neighbor drive him up the wall ;)
And in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody Mike Myers played the record company executive that said teenagers would never bang their heads in their cars to Bohemian Rhapsody.
May said that he showed Mercury a copy of Wayne’s World near the end of his life. Mercury would die Nov. 24, 1991 months before the release of the film.
Lately Penelope Spheeris expressed her skepticism that Freddie could have seen the movie since it was being edited up until past when Freddie died... I don't know, though, the story Sir Brian May told was that Freddie had seen the scene, not the movie, so I think it's possible.
Wonder where the blues brothers car is? The Wayne's world car was sold on pawn stars, they bought it, restored it and sold it again, they even restored the twizzler dispenser in the roof
When Mike Myers played the EMI executive Ray Foster in the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), he's dubious about releasing 'Bohemian Rhapsody' as a single. He states, "What about 'I'm in Love with My Car'? I love that! That's the kind of song teenagers can crank up the volume in their cars and bang their heads to...Bohemian Rhapsody will never be that song." That (special for him written line) was the reason he took that role.
The "No Stairway To Heaven" sign was actually their way of getting around copyright. They wanted to use the song, but couldn't afford it. So they had that sign to make a joke with trying to play the song.
that... is not correct at all. It was in the original theatrical release, then afterward Zeppelin and WMG denied any music being used even a few notes - the director was then told they played too many notes in that scene, like anything more than 2 notes would be 100k - and they had to edit in something different REALLY quick - like insanely quick - to where if you caught it in its LATER theatrical run, stairway wasn't in it. All VHS/DVD versions have the non-stairway music in it - but you can find a faked edit that restores the original gag with the first 4 notes of stairway.
Emily & Wayne's World - what a way to start off my day! I'm not worthy! Re. the Next Gen vs Original Series thing... when Wayne's World was made Next Gen was still an ongoing series, and while it was very very popular, there was no telling at the time if it would have the long-lasting cultural impact that the Original Series had. I think today it is indeed generally recognised as the better series of the two, but it can still never be what the original was. Sorry, I forgot to add a "Nerd Alert!" to the beginning of that last paragraph!
Welcome to the Jungle is another riff that I would tire of in a music shop.... Smoke On The Water, Sweet Home Alabama, Back In Black, and Seven Nation Army are others... OH you all should check out Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Garth's dog had no name in the script, I would name her Ozzy Pawsborn (The Prince of Barkness)
Our local rock radio station took the "No Stairway" thing & ran with it--for more than a decade they refused to play either that song or "Free Bird". The only exception was during their annual charity fundraising weekend--you could request any song in their current rotation for a $5 donation, any (rock) song in the station's library for $20, any song from any genre for $50, a song by your own band for $100, or both Stairway & Free Bird back-to-back for $500. 😂
My preferred SNL era was late 80s to early 90s. Van down by the river, makin' copies, choppin' broccoli, church lady, etc. But yes, it's very highly dependent on the simple fact of when in your life you had time to watch SNL live. I didn't watch it at all during the 2000s so many of those bits go over my head and seem lame, but I'm sure if I was a different age it would be a different story. I really don't think Emily should feel an ounce of guilt of doing the doodily-doodily transition, because the whole point of the joke is that it's emulating old-school film effects, it's not something that Wayne's World specifically invented. (I mean, yes, they made up the idea of saying it out loud but that's just, like, every joke/reference.)
Anybody else back in the day use to watch Mad TV at 11pm (10pm central 😋 ) but then switch over to SNL at 11:30? Also 2 movies in a row now with a cameo of the T - 1000...you're gonna be expecting him to show up in every movie pretty soon.
Have you ever watched the interview with Ed O’Neill on how he got the part of Al Bundy? It’s very interesting. Ed is far more complex and intelligent than many people would give him credit for, as they just see Al Bundy.

When this came out my sister gave it to me on VHS as a gift. My friend became obsessed with it and wanted to come to my house and watch it almost every day for a whole summer.
Summer of ‘93. “Wayne’s World” was at a pop culture high. Queen was frequently being played on the radio again. I was in my early 20’s, and had just come back home from being away for a few months. Sitting in a car with a bunch of friends and “Bohemian Rhapsody” comes on the radio. Of COURSE, I started head-banging… and, everyone in the car looked at me as if I just told them that I’m attracted to traffic lights. Not that there’s anything wrong with traffic lights, but not head-banging to “Bohemian Rhapsody” is WEIRD.
The zoom reunion with the cast and crew of Wayne's World is a good watch as well. They even got the "suck cut" inventor. Alice Cooper had the Delaware title card as his green screen background during the reunion as well. I was so glad to see the kitty trying to get your attention. "I'm in this video too!"
Mike Meyers played a record executive in the recent Freddy Mercury biopic shooting down Bohemian Rhapsody saying "No-one is going to be head-banging in the car to Bohemian Rhapsody"
The head banging to Bohemian Rhapsody scene was retook so many times that the final cut their heads and necks was hurting so much they could barely move them. That's why their head banging look so rough. You can see it especially on Mike Myers face and moving. Also Dana Carvey really didn't know the lyrics to the song too. So they kept the him trying to bad lip sing to the Bohemian Rhapsody in the movie.
SNL best late 80s early 90s. Church Lady, Hans & Frans, Wayne's World, The 1988 Presidential candidate spoofs, Weekend update w Dennis Miller, Ditka Boys, Vitoria Jackson, soo many great skits.
Favorite SNL Era: 90s/Early 2000s Favorite Star Trek: Next Generation Garth's Dog's Name: I feel like he would've named it after a woman-fronted metal band of the time...maybe Vixen Viewer title for Matthew: #Stud of Celluloid
My best friend and I went to see Wayne’s World in the theatre. We were laughing so hard we felt that we missed a bunch of gags. So we went to see it the next night!
SNL in the mid nineties was my jam (and, yes, right after SNICK). Roxbury guys and celeb jeopardy were always so good. Darrell Hammond could perfectly nail every celeb impression he did with his Bill Clinton being so spot on. And who could forget Norm Macdonald's weekend update. God rest his soul.
It's definitely a product of its time and a lot of the jokes to reflect that, especially since it was based off an SNL skit that was popular during that era, but, like you Emily, I REALLY wanted to know Glenn's story because the mystery of him intrigued me more than Wayne and Garthe's overall arc
Man, my brother and I grew up as 80s metal heads/hard rock…basically anything rock n roll we were obsessed with…we watched this on vhs until we had to buy another because the tape wore out….2nd one is awesome too….we desperately need a film like this now
Saw this at the cinema... About 50 people in there ... I think I walked out half way through. I was about 12... But I now appreciate it ... It's mainly a huge American comedy. When you are a kid in England you don't get that comedy.
This movie is a staple of my adolescence. I can quote damn near the entire film to this day even though I haven’t watched it in years. Did you ever see that episode of the Twilight Zone where the guy signed a contract and they cut out his tongue but it wouldn’t die it just grew and pulsated and gave birth to baby tongues
Another great movie from a Canadian sketch comedy group Kids in the Hall produced by Lorne Michaels of SNL is Brain Candy. If you can find it, Brain Candy is also like a Monty Python movie in that the main group play multiple characters.
I remember seeing this theatrically and loved it, but the scene with Rob Lowe walking in the house after the cavity search almost killed me from laughter.😂👍
Only Americans will know SNL, as it's not shown in many other places, im a Brit and I've not seen a single episode, Wayne's world is a classic for different reasons in the rest of the world, it's humour is universal ☺️ I know that, in the UK, people were saying 'nooooot' at the end of their statements all the damn time. And next generation is better in my opinion ☺️
Mike Myers also fought hard for Tia Carrerre cuz in the begin she was just gonna be a the Is stereotypical blonde girl. But she also got the role cuz of her singing as well
Emily, before watching "Wayne's World 2," you should watch "The Graduate" if you haven't already seen it. Garth's dog: Lassie Lee Roth Best Star Trek: TNG/DS9 (tie) My SNL era: late '80s/early '90s Movie rating: 7 #TITLE: Hollywood Hubby
I have a friend who keeps an unopened jar of Grey Poupon in his car and he occasionally shows it to other drivers when they're at stop lights and such, like he's offering it to them. Most people don't get it, but now and then he gets one that laughs.
4:15 FWIW, the S2 line may lack some of the cosmetic flair of the core USA models, but they do play and sound every bit as good (source: have one of both).
"Wayne's World" is so dependent on early 90's pop culture that it doesn't hold up all that great with the passing of time. Some of the humor is still there and still very funny, but becomes more of a slight chuckle than big laugh. But.....the WW soundtrack still holds up perfectly well today.
Love love love this movie AND Emily’s laughs ; especially at my FAV Dana Carvey scene where his character Garth says after his drum solo, “I like to play”.
You mentioned Paul Reed Smith guitars. I work in logistics and at a former company we did work with them. I once arranged delivery for a guitar from Neal Schon from the plant. I was also able to tour the plant one. Very cool!
1)I think the dog’s name is actually Girl because of course that’s what Garth would name her. 2)TNG is far and away superior to TOS in every aspect possible. Yeah I said it, come at me. 3)My preferred SNL era might be controversial but bear with me. The 81-84 years only because my introduction was from watching the Best of Eddie Murphy Saturday Night Live VHS tape. Going back and actually watching the episodes in full I realize they were pretty bad but everything Eddie was in was pure gold. Buckwheat Sings, James Brown’s Celebrity Hot Tub Party, Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood, Little Richard Simmons, Velvet Jones, Gumby, and my personal favorite, his spot on impersonation of Jesse Jackson singing a very soulful rendition of a song whose title I can’t even repeat here and that could in no way be aired today.

This series is a favorite of mine. I hope y'all watch the sequel as it's just as good if not better!
YESSS!! Finally!!! One of my favorites EVER! Now you MUST do WW 2 (which is better IMO) - one of the better sequels ever done.
My adolescence condensed into a single movie :D Garth is my spirit animal.
When this came out my sister gave it to me on VHS as a gift. My friend became obsessed with it and wanted to come to my house and watch it almost every day for a whole summer.
This movie gets extra stars for acknowledging the powers of Alice Cooper!! He is the best!
@AB 😁💚
SCHWING!!
WERE NOT WORTHY
WERE NOT WORTHY
WERE NOT WORTHY!!
How about we pop in some Bohemian Rhapsody?
The zoom reunion with the cast and crew of Wayne's World is a good watch as well. They even got the "suck cut" inventor. Alice Cooper had the Delaware title card as his green screen background during the reunion as well.
I was so glad to see the kitty trying to get your attention. "I'm in this video too!"
Glen was Ed O'Neil reprising his role from the Waynes World sketch when he hosted SNL
Garth and brooks would definitely have a Chuck Norris cameo.
Both Chuck and Norris?
Wayne's World is a classic. One of the funniest movies ever made.
SNL best late 80s early 90s. Church Lady, Hans & Frans, Wayne's World, The 1988 Presidential candidate spoofs, Weekend update w Dennis Miller, Ditka Boys, Vitoria Jackson, soo many great skits.
This movie took much inspiration from the greatest of the "stupid buddies" genre... Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Put it on the list.
Favorite SNL Era: 90s/Early 2000s
Favorite Star Trek: Next Generation
Garth's Dog's Name: I feel like he would've named it after a woman-fronted metal band of the time...maybe Vixen
Viewer title for Matthew: #Stud of Celluloid
I actually got to meet Alice Cooper at a con of all places. And there were two people cosplaying as Wayne and Garth and they pulled that bit.
That's awesome
It's interesting that the two best SNL movies are centered around music.
Bob Uecker in Major League! That movie is hilarious 😀
My favourite Star trek is anything that isn't Discovery.
Definitely. That Grey Poupon joke makes absolutely no sense if you're not old enough to have seen the commercial.
It was in a jar
"NO...Smoke On The Water!" LOL Great job y'all! 😄
"Just a bit outside."
-Major League
Another great movie from a Canadian sketch comedy group Kids in the Hall produced by Lorne Michaels of SNL is Brain Candy. If you can find it, Brain Candy is also like a Monty Python movie in that the main group play multiple characters.
I had forgotten how good this movie was. Thank you for the reminder.
Emily: What Glen's story?
Me: He's married with children.
Fun fact Chris Farley messed up the pointing he was supposed to point into the camera.
#TITLE : The Silver Screener
Alice Cooper is just the coolest and his cameo here is so much fun
But she also got the role cuz of her singing as well
As for Matts questions:
1) Gartholomew
2) Deep Space Nine
3) 75-85, John Belushi/Dan Aykroyd/Bill Murray/Eddie Murphy/Jim Belushi era
Fun fact for you! Cassandra is voiced in Lilo and Stitch.
This movie informed so much of and my cousins and I's humor when we were young
Emily, before watching "Wayne's World 2," you should watch "The Graduate" if you haven't already seen it.
Garth's dog: Lassie Lee Roth
Best Star Trek: TNG/DS9 (tie)
My SNL era: late '80s/early '90s
Movie rating: 7
#TITLE: Hollywood Hubby
It's Party time Excellent 🎸
Wayne’s world🥳
Dana Carvey often plays instruments in his stand up comedy.
I have a friend who keeps an unopened jar of Grey Poupon in his car and he occasionally shows it to other drivers when they're at stop lights and such, like he's offering it to them. Most people don't get it, but now and then he gets one that laughs.
4:30 - I would have loved to see a Glenn spin off film.
9:00 - Yes. Anti-skip was bullshit.
It holds up very well with people my age who are old enough to remember all the references. Younger people would miss a lot of the gags.
Every time i watch this movie and the scenes with Ed O'Neill Im like ........ "Glen........who hurt you?" LMAO!
Very cool!
I’m from Texas and - in fact - from San Antonio. I can confirm that is what we do in front of the Alamo so I take no offense to it :)
