Hello! What is the brand of your compressible day sack? I googled those three words and all that came up was REI Flash 18 Pack which looks a lot bigger than what you have.
Exactly the coverage I was looking for, thanks mate. If you check, did you have any issues with waterproofing? I'm assuming it's not waterproof since Osprey sell rain covers separately.
I wouldn't call it waterproof by any means but I have been out in the rain for short periods of time, I see the only point of entry for rain being the top (the sides are pretty thick). I would still get a rain cover if you were going to get drenched... Thanks for watching!
Hey Lenny, Sorry about that. Here's the link to the Sea to Summit Collapsible Day Pack. It compresses smaller than any other one I've found: amzn.to/2bBjJkT Osprey also has a pretty cool one with side pockets for a water bottle and a separate top pocket, and slightly beefier straps, but it doesn't compress as tiny as the other: amzn.to/2b8X4wv Hope this helps!
Nice review ! Thank you. Which packing cubes did you use ? I'm currently looking for packing cubes but I want to make sure that they will fit in my Osprey Porter 46. Thanks again.
Great review Pirate's Life. Looks like a great bag. Would you tell me whether one can use the backpack shoulder straps without using the hip belt? I can see that the female part of the clip is attached to the hip belt. would the rest of the hip belt remain tucked away if you didn't need to use it? Thanks!
Hey Trudy, I can fit the smaller 3 sizes of these packing cubes in the bag at once. The largest one is too big: amzn.to/2bnoz4g Here's the link to the Sea to Summit Collapsible Day Pack. Hey thanks for this video. I'm strongly considering purchasing this bag for my one year journey around the world. Yes that means my gear and clothing will be limited because I do not want to ever have to check a bag. What are your thoughts? Also do you think you can fit at least two weeks worth of clothing? I'm also considering purchasing the osprey day pack which can be attached to the front of the bag and I can use for day hikes. I look forward to your response.
Hi Samiyyah. You would be very happy with this bag, but like I said, it gets heavy and sometimes you'll wish you had wheels. You should check out the Osprey Meridian 60L pack (amzn.to/2b2L6aA) . It's basically this bag 46L, WITH wheels, PLUS the extra detachable 24L day pack. I think it's the perfect solution for you! Thanks for watching!
Thank for the response. I actually tried out the Meridian model in the store, however the "poles" for the retractable handle was a bit uncomfortable when wearing it as a backpack. In addition, having the wheels and retractable handle decrease the amount of space I will need to pack all of my necessary items. #bummer Thanks again for the response.
I'm traveling to europe for 12 days, do you think it will help me to take my clothes and personal stuff for that much days? I'm planning to take light clothes but I'm not sure if I would need a bigger one or if with this I can do it. Also this is the maximum size for carry on backpacks for flights right ?
Hey man, you won't have a problem for a 12 day trip. This is the perfect bag for that! This will always fit in the overhead of a larger plane, but smaller propeller planes you might have to check it. Thanks for watching!
This is a great review, thank you. It's great to get honest feedback. I'm soon to be travelling Asia for 6 months, and am unsure whether to get a backpack or a hyrbid duffel like this that can convert. What would you recommend? Also, do you have a blog/Facebook/Twitter?
Hey Morgan, I would definitely choose a backpack like this over a duffelbag. The carrying system is so much more geared towards walking and moving around, and the handles on this are pretty much the same as a duffelbag, maybe even better. You'll like the pockets and organizational features too. I have a blog! apirateslife.com Thanks for watching!
You can put the laptop inside in the main compartment. That's what I'm doing. It won't fit in the front compartment. What packing cubes are those? I could really use that information.
Hey Chris! Thanks for your advice. I still use the "front pocket" cause it's easier to take out for security, but I might try that some time. Also - I love these packing cubes, htey have the best build quality and nice sizes, and come with a laundry bag too: amzn.to/2br40sf
nice review of the pack i have this one as well. It realy is a comfy duffelpack, easy to carry on etc. I'm curious about that litlle daysack. Could you give me more information about it ? cheers

Hey man, really good video. Did you ever travel with a laptop using this bag? I'm deciding between this or the 40. Anything you could suggest would be great thanks!
Yes, I travel with a 15" macbook retina. I have suspicions that the placement of the laptop might have led to some dead pixels in my screen unfortunately, so I would recommend a hard-ish case. I didn't use any case, which might have been a mistake. Thanks for watching!
Hey Mike. Yes, it was a puddle jumper (Fokker 50). There's just no overhead or under seat space in those planes. I have never had an issue on a major airline, it always fits in the overhead (or under the seat if it's not fully packed). It definitely WOULD NOT fit in one of those wooden box things for the "carry on size" but if you can sneak past the agents and keep the pack behind you when checking in, you should never have a problem. Hope this helps!

If you have good layers (merino wool and other stuff that doesn't smell if you wear it a lot), and if you only have one pair of shoes it would totally work for an extended period. I'm not sure what type of stuff you usually travel with (mine gets filled up with lots of heavy camera stuff and electronics pretty quickly). Try not to over pack, if you find yourself justifying bringing something cause you "might use it" in certain situations, chances are you probably don't need it. Remember you can always buy stuff on the road as well.
A Pirate's Life Thank you very much! Just one last question, does it look super big and bulky on your back. I am 5'8" so do you think it would look to big?
It depends on how full it is. If it's fully packed it looks like a turtle shell almost (lol). It's not as massive as some other packs but it's definitely pretty big.
Hey J Bax! That makes total sense, I just haven't seen the shoulder strap attachment anywhere? I think it's silly taht it doesn't come with the bag. but whatever... Here's the link to the Sea to Summit Collapsible Day Pack. It compresses smaller than any other one I've found:: amzn.to/2bBjJkT Osprey also has a pretty cool one with side pockets for a water bottle and a separate top pocket, and slightly beefier straps, but it doesn't compress as tiny as the other: amzn.to/2b8X4wv Hope this helps!

+Aiden White Pifer found it www.amazon.com/Sea-Summit-Ultra-Sil-Pack-22-Liter/dp/B005RY3NP8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464007177&sr=8-1&keywords=ultra-sil+dry+day+pack
In my experience, if you can "sneak it past" the employees, AKA leave it behind you during check-in, and be somewhat discreet when passing those "size boxes" before boarding, you can always fit it in the overhead. It might be smart to board the plain first rather than last, so there is sure to be overhead space.
On smaller planes and smaller propeller airlines (like puddle-jumper jet in the tropics) they usually don't have space for it in the overhead or under the seat. In a standard 737 or anything bigger than that, it will always fit in the overhead, even if it's STUFFED. It will fit under the airplane seat if it's like, 80% full, but won't leave much room for your feet.

My longest period of time with this pack was about a month, but if you pack smart & have the right type of clothing, you could travel with this thing indefinitely
On a standard commuter jet (boeing 737 or airbus 380) it will fit for sure under the seat in front of you, but not when fully packed. You can pack it as little as you want, and pull the cinch straps and it actually gets pretty tiny. When they ship it to you in the mail, its VERY small. Hope this helps

Great vid, you convinced me to get this thing for my back-packing trip to Asia rather than use my old 75L hiking backpack. You forgot the link to the daypack. It looks very similar to the Osprey Ultralight Stuff Pack though. Edit: It's the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Day Pack.
What do you think about the back suspension system? I'm going to South America for a few months, and although there's a low chance that I'll actually carry my main back on treks, I still want it to be relatively comfortable.
I've used the bag once on a pretty big day hike. The suspension system isn't as nice as some real "backpacking bags" but it's totally sufficient. I would recommend using a carabiner to carry your water bottle externally. There's also a space behind the straps where you could add extra cushioning if you want. I used to keep a styrofoam pad in there

Right! The new version of the backpack is designated laptop sleeve on the back. What's great, is it works on this older version of the Porter 46 too (but there is no zipper at the top).

Jason - I thought about that as well. I'm going to post a followup "1 year" review soon and I'll be sure to show it in the mirror. It looks kinda like a turtle shell when you wear it. It looks stylish tho! Thanks for wathcing!
Be honest mate, the Porter 46 has very ordinary pack back straps and what passes as a hip belt is flimsy and terrible - it's not sturdy .. With all that shit you say you pack in it you would be lucky to walk around the block before your shoulders started to ache .. Osprey designed the pack to be a legal carry on bag (7kg weight limit); I'm not surprised you had to check the bag in Sth America
I mean, for the width of the waist straps and the ability to stuff them back inside the back, they are pretty legit. If you want to deal with massive sturdy waist belts like larger packs have, you wouldn't be able to put this thing under your seat at all. That being said, the thing is super heavy at full capacity (the way i packed it) and it does hurt your back and shoulders, hence why I mentioned that it would be nice to have some wheels... Anyways, thanks for watching!
It's impressive that no review mentioned the secret compartment ! It's useful when travel alone and keep things safe .
Hey, I don't think the other reviewers actually used the pack :) The secret compartment is crucial! Thanks for watching!
Hello! What is the brand of your compressible day sack? I googled those three words and all that came up was REI Flash 18 Pack which looks a lot bigger than what you have.

Yes, I travel with a 15" macbook retina. I have suspicions that the placement of the laptop might have led to some dead pixels in my screen unfortunately, so I would recommend a hard-ish case. I didn't use any case, which might have been a mistake.

compress as tiny as the other: amzn.to/2b8X4wv
Hope this helps!
What's the link to the compressible day pack?
Sorry I"m so late: amzn.to/2b8X4wv
A Pirate's Life almost a year late! Haha
where did you buy the packing cubes?
Hey Jason! You can get them on Amazon - these have the best build quality and
nice sizes, and come with a laundry bag too: amzn.to/2br40sf
Do you have the link the the compressable day pack?
The link should be in the description now. Sorry about that.
Where's the link to the compressable daypack?
Hey Christopher, Here's the link to the Sea to Summit Collapsible Day Pack. It compresses smaller than any other one I've found: amzn.to/2bBjJkT

What is the name of the day pack?

Nice review. You sound like Jason Schwartzman.
Hahaha thanks for watching man :)
Not sure when you bought this, but theres supposed to be a pocket in the back that is meant for a laptop.
Right! The new version of the backpack is designated laptop sleeve on the back. What's great, is it works on this older version of the Porter 46 too (but there is no zipper at the top).
What kind of cubes are those?
Hey Mike! love these packing cubes, they have the best build quality and
nice sizes, and come with a laundry bag too: amzn.to/2br40sf
thinking about getting those beautiful bright orange ones but im wondering if its better not to attract attention to the contents of your bag?
I don't see the link to that daysack

Excellent Review! Got a little nauseous at the end because of your camera moving so much. Blah. But still enjoyed your review nonetheless! =)
Hehe sorry.... I got carried away with the 60 frames per second! Thanks for watching!
why doesn't anyone put it on
Jason - I thought about that as well.
You have to buy the duffle bag strap separately.
I figured. I haven't seen one online or being used by anyone however. I suppose I haven't looked hard enough for it
common bro, its AH-spREY
AH-whatever ;)
can't stand the camera dude. thanks for the upload though
Sorry Marc! That 60 frames per second setting was a little bit much!
for 90$ i would go with the Kelty redwing i think its the better bag
I have had some Kelty bags a long time go... don't think i have seen the Redwing . Thanks for the tip! Will check it out
I wish i could watch it, but with the head mounted camera, I can't. 30 seconds in and I'm about to barf. Thumbs down :(
