Holy schnitzels this worked. I waited almost 6 years to get the pics of my sons birth off my dead LG G4. Took less time to to do this fix than it did to transfer all my pics off. My wife is unbelievably happy. You see, my phone died (boot loop) just after we took pics of her giving birth. It died in the delivery room. We thought they were lost forever. Thanks!!!
This is best video I've seen on youtube for DIY LG G4 bootloop repair, and also excellent honest advice - that this is only temporary repair and all important data should be transferred out of the phone immedietly. I would suggest if you can't get a hot air rework station, at least "calibrate" the hot air gun by putting a piece of lead free solder on a penny and see how long it takes hot air gun to melt it.
Thanks for the instructions. I just funneled hot air for 5 minutes on the processor using a common hairdryer. It worked immediately! I use an Lg g Flex 2 which kept working properly for 3 years. Then started the bootloop, which made it very hard for the device to start. And when it managed to start, it would only work for a few minutes until it would start rebooting continuously and so becoming useless. Unfortunately I kept insisting to try to turn it on and even managed to do the factory reset, until the device became quite dead. One day it stopped turning on and did not charge even. So then I replaced the battery because, like it is mentioned on this video, I heard that it could solve the problem of the bootloop, but nothing happened. It remained dead and would not charge either. I don't know what would have happened if I had replaced the battery immediately when the bootloop started. So just using the hairdryer for 5 minutes made it work! It immediately started charging and turned on and works properly for the moment. I don't know how long will it last, but if it dies again I know that I can repair it by replacing the motherboard. Tip : I used aluminum foil on the end of my hairdryer to create a tube with a smaller diameter to make it more effective.
@@dominicksoto6390 Yes, it worked for me! Unfortunately it was temporary, even if I installed a new battery. It lasted for 4 days (stopped working yesterday). But during these 4 days it was working properly and it was able to charge. On the 4th day it stopped working. It would not switch on and if I tried to turn it on, it would only display the LG start logo and then would power off again. So today I repeated the procedure. Awesome!! Thanks iSmart for this helpful video This method can also be helpful to other series of LG phones with the same boot loop problems. Solution - Put it inside a deep freezer for about 3 mins, then once your phone starts, close opened apps specially CPU demanding apps and WiFi. You can "under volt the CPU" for a permanent solution :)

I was worried how long to heat it, and how close, so I literally played your video while I copied your movements. I didn't have any thermal paste, so I skipped that step for now. @@ΠαναγιώτηςΓκόλφης probably not. The principal is sound. I am not saying you did this wrong. On the contrary, it's excellent. If I may offer a couple of points for your interest...? Seeing as how there already isn't much room in the phone for stuff, a more permanent fix, would be to ditch the cardboard, business card, or whatever, as it is more of an insulator, than the tin foil. Doing a 2, 3 or 4 layer of only the tin foil to fill in the tiny gap, won't have a tendency to push the back side of the processor against the back of the screen, with too much force (and at this scale of tolerance, it is considered BRUTE force!). The biz card is what makes it a less than idea solution, on several levels. Ditch it. You also might use thermal paste, instead of what you did use, even though nothing is intended to be applied anywhere, inside these phones. Thermal paste has the best chance at filling this role, as it does not interact with motherboard/SMD materials, and will contribute to the heat transfer. Thank you for this tutorial, and I hope you will accept my comments in the spirit of fostering the continuing the conversation, between those of us in the tech-space.
Another suggestion would be to use hot air rework station, not general purpose heat gun. It's easy to fry motherboard using powerful general purpose heatgun without any temperature control.

Yes but hair dryer doesn't get hot enough. Best to get a digital cooking thermometer for few bucks and test how hot your hair dryer gets. It needs to be at least 240 deg C to melt lead free solder. 1. Using heat gun without temperature control is horrible idea 2. PCB should be placed horizontally to avoid elements falling off the board 3. Use proper thermal paste (even silicone one), not flux! 4. All this heating (as it is said in this movie) is usually temporary solution, because in most cases you just warm contacts inside of chip which have failed. If you don't believe me just watch this : ua-cam.com/video/1AcEt073Uds/v-deo.html
Hello! Thank you for the tip! Unfortunately it worked for 5 min, then it got back to the boot loop. What else may be done? Should I apply heat for more time? I used a hairdryer. If this is a temporary fix, what would a permanent fix be?
Don't use hair dryer - temperature is too low to reflow lead free solder. Get cheap hot air rework station like no-brand 858D (on ebay for around $35). If you use general utility heat gun (like in video), it may work but you can easily fry the motherboard as temperature is not controlled.
@@cristianene164 To be honest, even with best hot air reflow station, you can get only temporray fix on LG G4. Why? Because of the unusually crappy lead free solder used by LG for it's ram chip on LG G4. Note, that for LG G3, just reflowing ram/cpu chip stack can produce good results. LG G3 had better quality solder and hence far fewer bootloop failures can be seen. But for LG G4, only permanent solution is to desolder the ram chip and resolder it using good leaded solder. That unfortunately takes good skill with micro soldering.
Hi iSmart, My wife got a bit of rain water in the usb-c charging port on her LG V20 and shortly after went to charge it. After it ruined the cable by getting hot, I noticed a the charging port also looked slight melted inside the phone. It worked for a few more days but was picky on what charger it worked with. Eventually, this phone started to boot loop and now we cant get it back on at all to recover the data on the phone. It just boot loops. Any suggestions? BTW.. I'm comfortable taking the phone apart, have all the tools, have replaced screens several times and work in IT.
What temperature is your gun? What temperature for how long? Plus, if the issue was not loose contact but only heat transfer during boot, could we put the phone in freezer for some time and then turn it on?

1-Leave it in charge for 1 hour, 2- put the without battery in zipper plastic bag. 3- put the phone in the freezer for 30 minutes 4- make sure there's a memory card in the phone. 5- turn the phone on while it is still cold and back it up (copy your important data to the memory card) * repeat the process if the stops working. Good luck
Hi, ismart I have been watching your videos for a long time now, I have what is practically a brand new LG G4 it is the best version of the LG G4 phone you can get, it is the one from India, I can't remember now, I think it's the 820 or something, it takes two SIM cards but in your video, you mentioned the possibility of getting a new battery sorting out the Boot loop, I wonder if you can help me decide, if perhaps my phone is suitable for the new battery because it will not charge and when I get a small change into it for like half a minute maybe it will go into a bootloop but someone else,I also said to me that at the fact that mine will not charge is more symptomatic with needing a new battery what do you think. I always liked the phone and it was a pretty good phone the camera was second to none actually at the time they were around 2 I think they were supposed to be the best camera in the world at the time all of the phones lunch but I have a lot of information and pictures in the phone that I would like to get out plus I would also like to get the phone going again what do you think
Don't bother with this if you can prove your "NEW" purchase of the LG V10. LG is still repairing the V10 under recall warranty... That's right, the phone is basically still under a recall warranty. Just got mine fixed for free May 22, 2019.
Did this a few times, still stuck in Boot loop also replaced the battery. Wish LG would have just replaced any phone that has this issue. I lost 200 bucks, phone was only 90 days out but turned to be out of the 1 year warranty.
hello, my lg is working thanks to your tuto but the phone is getting soooo warm when im using it (i fix it 1h ago). Should i stop using it in this condition ?
I tried to do so, it didnt work. My LG V10 is now ruined. My wife called me "Demolition man". But I can spend a lot of parts. The screws are all right. LoL I like the V10 because the battery can be changed.
probably short on motherboard. Need to take it to professional electronics shop to get it diagnosed. If you heated the board using heatgun and it starts doing that, then what happened is that the solder balls melted and because solder expands when molten, solder balls joined adjoining solder pads (which it is not supposed to bridge) and formed a short. In that case cpu/ram stack is probably totaly gone, although rest of the motherboard can be used for spare parts.
does that solution is permanent? or just for few mins cause thats what happens when i heat up mine , then again turns of , it only gives me ,3 mins to save and transfer my files and data to pc,,, you know what , No never mind ,it did indeed work,so far has been on for over 6,7 hours hopefully it stay steady and finally permanente . thank you for your tutorial ,👌👌👌
No not permanent. Rejoining cracked solder connections using just heat is only temporary. Flux is needed for successful reflow, but due to epoxy underill, it's not possilbe to apply flux to cracked solder joints.

@@KJ4ZQX that operator played u they just fixed mine for free last month and i had gotten it in 2016 im typing on it right now call lg from lg website and say hello i heard that the LG G4 has a well known bootloop issue across thousands of lg g4s i have heard that lg has extended the warranty 2 extra years because of this. Can you guys please help me get a replacement of my bootlooped phone. Say that let me know what they say
If that g4 has warranty better get your money...I replaced and got a new g4 and bootloop started again after 2 months
Maybe in the USA, but not in Canada.
It worked for a couple hours! Enough time to get my files back! Thanks!
Thank you a lot, for me it is working. I recommend everyone to try!
happy to see that i'm not the only one still using this phone in 2020
@@elvirekh7765 LG G4 is excellent phone except for bootloop epidemic. Still plenty good for almost everything in 2020, and removable battery to boot
1. Using heat gun without temperature control is horrible idea
2. PCB should be placed horizontally to avoid elements falling off the board
3. Use proper thermal paste (even silicone one), not flux!
4. All this heating (as it is said in this movie) is usually temporary solution, because in most cases you just warm contacts inside of chip which have failed. If you don't believe me just watch this : ua-cam.com/video/1AcEt073Uds/v-deo.html
louis is talking about gpu tha fails internally and not the balls to the motherboard, watch again
@@springer-qb4dv thank you for your reply. I will try it and revert with an update.
That unfortunately takes good skill with micro soldering.
can I also put it in oven? instead of using heat gun or hair dryer?
Hi iSmart, My wife got a bit of rain water in the usb-c charging port on her LG V20 and shortly after went to charge it. After it ruined the cable by getting hot, I noticed a the charging port also looked slight melted inside the phone. It worked for a few more days but was picky on what charger it worked with. Eventually, this phone started to boot loop and now we cant get it back on at all to recover the data on the phone. It just boot loops. Any suggestions? BTW.. I'm comfortable taking the phone apart, have all the tools, have replaced screens several times and work in IT.
Also, we had an extra V20 so we just need to recover the phone data.
What temperature is your gun? What temperature for how long?
Plus, if the issue was not loose contact but only heat transfer during boot, could we put the phone in freezer for some time and then turn it on?
I tried that , it worked temporarily
@@iSmart1 LG must be really proud of itself! :)

Hours or weeks or maybe more
Thanks for the video. I got my phone working in no time and got all my data from it backed up.
So many thanks for LG G4 reboot loop fix.
LG Aristor keeps rebooting. From LG logo to T mobile to home screen, then back to LG logo. Do you have an idea how to fix it?
Try to hard reset it
iSmart Will this cause personal data loss? Phone is not important but personal data are.
Yes, hard reset will erase all your data
iSmart Is there a way to recover the personal data before hard reset?
@@angel-xe9fn , unfortunately no, there's a way but it's way complicated. Some paid softwares or tools can help but most of them are scams, they will disappoint you at the end.

Will this technique work for an LG Rebel 4? Thank you so much!!
No tools or easy fix. You took the fucking phone apart!!
Great job I had a LG v10 and it had the booting loop like that, probably was a battery are a bad mother bored. Thank you
How did the chip get hot enough without burning your fingers?
LG makes experienced technician out of its owners. I own a G8, no problems so far I can't wait to initiate my career.
So, How are you? Became a technician?
hair dryer will not do anything, and special tools (heat gun) are needed for this repair.
Hello dear, I watched your video but I used hair dryer but it didn’t on. It’s showing the same issue. What should I do

What was the exact reason you heat up your motherboard ?
solder ball between ram and cpu stack is cracked. Heating the solder above 220 deg C will bridge the cracked solder balls temporarily
can u please tell is there any other way? I dont have the screw driver to open the screws please help😭
Use knife that point I big or small enough to fit

Hi the battery has almost gone for my lg g4 model ..could you sugguest from where to get 1 original one...please help

If it is a soldering problem, will reballing the processor be a more permanent solution?
Hello. I have an LG Stylo 3, semi bad condition but it has all my information. My phone was working until Wednesday now it willnstart (lg) screen but will not turn on. Repair place mentioned it was the motherboard, could it be the same issue? I just need it to turn on long enough to do a backup.
1-Leave it in charge for 1 hour,
2- put the without battery in zipper plastic bag.
3- put the phone in the freezer for 30 minutes
4- make sure there's a memory card in the phone.
5- turn the phone on while it is still cold and back it up (copy your important data to the memory card)
* repeat the process if the stops working.
Good luck
Thank you very much my friend.
Your movie helped me a lot, I thank you
I have a lg g4 with the the same problem but i dont have a heat gun or hair dryer what can i use to get it hot enough to fix it
Hi, ismart I have been watching your videos for a long time now, I have what is practically a brand new LG G4 it is the best version of the LG G4 phone you can get, it is the one from India, I can't remember now, I think it's the 820 or something, it takes two SIM cards but in your video, you mentioned the possibility of getting a new battery sorting out the Boot loop, I wonder if you can help me decide, if perhaps my phone is suitable for the new battery because it will not charge and when I get a small change into it for like half a minute maybe it will go into a bootloop but someone else,I also said to me that at the fact that mine will not charge is more symptomatic with needing a new battery what do you think.
I really like the " no special skill/tools". At 2:04, I began to cry.😭
Can work at LG K350 Sirr!?
Thanks for the instructions brother
all u need to do is change the battery...thanks for mentioning it
Hahah.
This is so funny I remember having this problem but I still like lg anyways lg fan, now I'm with the lg g8s
Don't bother with this if you can prove your "NEW" purchase of the LG V10. LG is still repairing the V10 under recall warranty... That's right, the phone is basically still under a recall warranty. Just got mine fixed for free May 22, 2019.
what was the procedure?
This is a great video! Unfortunately, it works but only for a few minutes then it goes in the bootloop again. Any tips regarding this? Thanks!
It happened to me too I was only able to retrieve one picture
Did this a few times, still stuck in Boot loop also replaced the battery. Wish LG would have just replaced any phone that has this issue. I lost 200 bucks, phone was only 90 days out but turned to be out of the 1 year warranty.
Can i put thermal paste istead of aluminium foil ?

Can this work on LG MAGNA??

hello, my lg is working thanks to your tuto but the phone is getting soooo warm when im using it (i fix it 1h ago). Should i stop using it in this condition ?
Why you don't use thermal pad 🤔...
I tried to do so, it didnt work. My LG V10 is now ruined. My wife called me "Demolition man". But I can spend a lot of parts. The screws are all right. LoL I like the V10 because the battery can be changed.
My lg g4 is heating when you put the battery and fails to power on wat should i do
probably short on motherboard.
Terima kasih...ditunggu video selanjutnya...sangat bermanfaat...ilike this tutorial
does that solution is permanent? or just for few mins cause thats what happens when i heat up mine , then again turns of , it only gives me ,3 mins to save and transfer my files and data to pc,,, you know what , No never mind ,it did indeed work,so far
has been on for over 6,7 hours hopefully it stay steady and finally permanente . thank you for your tutorial ,👌👌👌
No not permanent. Rejoining cracked solder connections using just heat is only temporary. Flux is needed for successful reflow, but due to epoxy underill, it's not possilbe to apply flux to cracked solder joints.
hello i have a phone , lg glex2 but a few years ago he dead :)😅 i mean , my phone was off one second and never work again . i went to fix that and the sayed this is for board and i don't have this part ,,

Hi I have an lg g8x thinq stuck in boot loop. I know this is not unusual to these phones. Intuitively I knew the processor was confused and could not load. I fixed 3 different times by patiently hard starting/rebooting...until got back info. When it shuts off on its own I have to start this whole process again. It has been several days of working on it this last time and it gets all the way to home screen on occasion w out loading apps just like b4 which was a sign i was getting close to it loading on further attempts. But now instead of loading apps eventually it goes from what i described to a white screen...and once from white to pale slightly yellow screen b4 reboot. I have tried putting the phone in freezer w protective baggy and it works better for a while in getting to homescreen pic b4 it gets overly hot but can get past this last hurdle. I.portant info on device that can't loose. Don't care bout phone. Any help us greatly appreciated. Afraid of the heat gun option.
how about LG k350 is corrupt ang not working properly?
heat gun is a special tool to me. but hey first i seen of how to get to mother board. i have a LG 52 but it is same back with same switch and camera. i just like to get my contacts transfered. went to phone shop and they give you a shrug and dont even offer to assist. just sell new phone
have you tried using LG Mobile Switch?
My LG G4 do the same. I will try to fix it. I need phone for my work so I bought LG G6 and I hope it will not be the same problem. Can I use thermal past for PC processors?
yes thermal past wl be the best
So you still bought another LG phone?
