I swear the Dive episodes this season have been some of my favorite in a long time. Episode one with our lost compatriot Mark, Meteos joining the squad, and Phreak making an awesome cameo, bless. Absolutely loved hearing all the comments from Phreaks side of the scene. The particular comment about Maokai being giga OP for years and no one had any idea was so cool. Huge thanks to Phreak coming on the Dive. Miss your casting man. Dive squad, best content in the scene bar none. Makes every Thursday a banger
This is some of the best League content we've had in a while. Getting to hear Phreak talk a lot about the tools they have and the reasons why the balance team works the way it does makes me feel a lot better about the state of the game, even if I think they royally fuck it up sometimes.
Happy to see PHREAK doing some content. Phreak & Kobe was the classic casting duo who LCS viewers grew up with and I still miss Phreak as a caster. With Meteos there as well, I half expect them to announce today's Featured Matchup between C9 and Vulcun TechBargains! Those were the days.
Im just gonna float this emotional whatever this is, out there... It is SO bizarre to me, that this game is just barely old enough now, that kids started saying shit like "I grew up with." I was already an adult when league came out so, fuck. This isnt like growing up with Bill Nye or Mr. Rogers, these kids are talking about growing up with shit from 2009... FUCK.... Im old :(
thanks for coming on Phreak, it was really cool hearing from your perspective. you took the suggestions and feedback like a champ and I appreciate you hearing out the guys on their ideas even if you know they wont ever work in the live game.
That's so nuts hearing about how Sylas top alone can inflate the champs entire win% just from it countering one champion. Love hearing stats like this, since with how big scalewise League is there are just so many angles you can look at the data.
This is why you can't look at data at statistics individually and why many data tracking websites for League have multiple metrics like Win Rate, Pick Rate, and Location played. This is a much better way to understand champion strength in an individual role.
Phreak actually really on top of his game! Remember that we did NOT get this much explanations and discussion ever previously around balancing etc. Having someone so outspoken as Phreak, sharing his thoughts every patch, and even tanking any questions like this like a pro is really appreciated! I know there are cases where we might feel that his point is off, when he defends a balancing that people experience as something else then he sees, but that is just details and obviously we have different information on each side. I feel like he is doing a good dam job!
Nah its either the lighting or he dyed his hair more gray for this, if you check his channel his hair colors way more normal, still has gray in it but its not pure gray like here
Really enjoyed getting to hear Phreak's perspective on the game holistically and the balance team's viewpoints as well. Hearing Meteos & Phreak talk about balance and agreeing on several things really I think points to how intelligent Meteos is as a player, and it's nice to hear him get to be a bit more serious than with Sneaky & Doublelift, despite how much I enjoy listening to the Tri-Cast.
I wonder if K'Sante would benefit from a 'tired' like mechanic, where after his ult ends he loses the healing and extra damage but doesn't immediately regain his armor and magic resist
This was BY FAR my favorite episode of any NA content this year, probably of all time. Hearing the balance team perspective, seeing all of the things they look at to determine whether to actually touch a champ (e.g. the Maokai thing), it's so cool and makes me respect that side of the game so much more.
Thanks for coming on phreak! It's nice to see communication between game developers and the community. I was thinking about it, and as far as I know League is the only game where the company will send out regular player feedback surveys to the community instead of just an AMA thread. Ty riot. I often have problems with the balance, but I recognize that Riot already tries to cater to players.
Phreaks takes on champions arent always the best, but one thing you gotta give him respecc and credit for is how transparent he is and keeping the community aware of why he wants to put out specific changes. He definitely cares about the game, and thats nice to see that level of transparency on the process
Phreaks eyebags and greyness makes me wonder how hard he is working at the balance team.. hope the community takes it easy on him. Hes been there always and definitely cares about the game.
This was the perfect episode to fill out the gap in LCS. Super informative; I always like getting all of your opinions on game balance at both levels of play.
PHREAAAAK goddam i miss him dude. fire podcast. didnt see all of it but its already one of my fave episodes so far. Also Meteos adds so much value as an ex pro and personality. probably the best decision made to make him co host
There's a lot of good proposals going straight to Phreak and I like the possibility. Summoners having groups you can only pick from is really cool or Flash default and 1 other choice. Biggest problem with the game is not banning bought accounts until they are sold and tank a few dozen games and the needing over 100 hours to unlock ranked at level 30
Yay Phreak! The Dive has always been enterntaining but this season in particular has been good as Meteos being a former player has added a different dimension tbh. And having Phreak on was super insightful. Im so happy i got to attend worlds and hear Phreak cast IRL. Def miss them both but hopefully on to better things!
I actually really loved this episode. Not much of a stats person but I found Phreaks insights so interesting. Would love to see one of these after a big patch each time. PS. Petition to get a video where one tricks bring QOL updates to phreak and he gives feedback.
I absolutely love me some Phreak action, it was super interesting to see the logic behind how the game is balanced and its made me appreciate the state of the game a lot more. Thank you Phreak for still being willing to come out and talk, I know that you get a lot of undeserved hate from corners of the community and I just want to say that we appreciate you and the live pod team.
They should straight up fork the game, have the main branch and the reddit branch, have reddit vote on biweekly balance patches for their branch, and have that be the extra game mode for a while lol
Last season I was spamming graves top with heartsteel and titanic hydra, into stuff like sterak's and frozen heart. Basically just to stack heartsteel/grasp against melee tanks and avoid losing until I had 8k hp and was an unkillable tyrant. It wasn't very strong and was very easy to punish in the first 25 minutes against anyone with an idea of macro (Just push in the graves with 80 AD pre titanic). However, I'm also in Iron. For some reason, mobafire started recommending Grasp/Hearsteel as Graves top Rush in NA if you tracked Plat/lower in the filters, presumably because I had the highest WR (like 72% across 100+ games). I have to say, I've never felt pride as much as the moment when my friend told me his duo partner started copying my build in Silver and went 0-14-0 and logged off for the day.
I just want to say that when phreak said when you autopilot rec(ommended) items sometimes you get rekt. I appreciate that pun. I cringed. but I appreciated it.
On the idea of the trade off items- In Smite they had items that would mess with your stats to align your character with different classes. My favorite was to use certain mages as support, take the tank item, and now i do way less damage but i didnt get vaporized on the frontline. Annivia in League would be a fantastic character for this item.
On the DFG Activation point that Azael brought up, I remember in recent years one of the casters bringing up the point that roughly as high of a percentage of players didn't use Varus W Active, and I can't recall fully, but I want to say it was even just in pro play.
Ohh man, i loved the stats runes so much. You could go full armor runes on a malphite or a chogath and just outrade a Riven bit hitting minions ignoring her. Was very fun.
Really sad to see Reksai in the unplayable state she is in right now. hope her Q orbwalking is hotfixed as she cannot q while shes moving or with any active items.
At this point I kinda want Azael to just say that they will be taking community questions "next episode" as a running joke at the end of each episode lol
Using active items in a team fight is already a bit funky whether using mouse buttons or keyboard options. I don’t like the idea that an optimal build might require use of all 4 abilities, proper spacing and 5 item abilities. That sounds bad to me. 1 or 2 as is, is plenty complicated enough.
So the question I have for the K'sante discussion is is this just going to be the evolution of tanks going forward? K'sante has like what 3-4 identities and thats the problem hes a tank/dps that can carry why does he also get an unstoppable. Its fine for Udyr because he doesnt have 5 dashes to get in the Ram invuln rounds out his mobility k'sante it just seems like its an extra cherry on top of an overloaded kit.
The big difference to me for Ksante when Phreak is mentioning all the abilities like his unstoppable that are in the game like dashes can be buffered, fiora parry, ornn e/w all of these things have to be directed and timed correctly at the start or you get punished hard. Ksante gets the luxury of getting his no button to use which he has to time correctly and THEN he gets to decide where to go afterwards on top of it. It just feels rough to have champs like him who have ALL of the cards in any fight and its more on him to make a mistake rather than you to outplay him, there are a lot of champs that mostly rely on them making a mistake but the skew is on most leaves you with like 30% u can still outplay him if they play perfect, 70% they need to mess up for you to have a hope. Ksante is like 5/95, you need a near perfect situation to outplay a good ksante it feels like.
The thing with K'sante W currently though is that because he can't instant cast you also get time to create space from him. Also, the second he starts moving he can be cc'd again. I think some people don't realize this (or my game has been very bugged). But a lot of people do not punish K'sante early at all so he kind of needs to do a lot to have a good mid game. It's one of those scenarios where playing him will show you what sucks about playing him and some champs are randomly stupid hard to play against for no reason. Also, his damage is especially bad early and the second he ults your team gets to shred him. I think too often people panic when really when you play against him you just need to force him to ult or peel him like you would any diver.
If it doesn't get covered in this episode, i would like to know thoughts on "unconventional" supports (like camille) beginning to shine (personally a big fan of more variety for us support mains) and if riot is okay with this and not going to gut them to be unplayable.
May I interest you in Annivia support? You have a stun, a wall to block off adcs with no mobility, an AOE slow, and a guardian angel at level 1 so you can trade heavy in lane.
For item Actives they need to make it more more clear that items have an active when it is in your inventory. Most players are just buying items they see in a guide and don't know everything the items they buy are doing. I just found out a few months ago that Randuin's has an active. I always just bought it for crit protection.

This episode was SO GOOD. I love hearing Phreak's thoughts and approaches to the game, especially when the data can be easily misunderstood.
That's so nuts hearing about how Sylas top alone can inflate the champs entire win% just from it countering one champion. Love hearing stats like this, since with how big scalewise League is there are just so many angles you can look at the data.
I also looked up the stat he said about senna being seraphines support in 25% of the games and its really true. I was shocked
This is why you can't look at data at statistics individually and why many data tracking websites for League have multiple metrics like Win Rate, Pick Rate, and Location played. This is a much better way to understand champion strength in an individual role.
Phreak talks like he's on 1.25x speed when he speaks after meteos
I think he is lol. Look at the movements here 28:35
yes i've checked like three times to make sure im not actually sped up lol on my video
I checked as well! Phreak talk is supernatural!!
I thought I was the only one to notice that
It’s a pretty good idea to have Phreak in here for this week while LCS is on break and they have nothing new to talk about for that.
Literally the ONLY good thing about LCS break lol
I read "Kobe and Meteos peg Phreak for buffs" and I was like "what the actual hell"
That episode’s behind a paywall
Nah that one's Patreon only
Gotta do what you gotta do
I would pay so much money to see that.

Phreak does a really good job of answering personal grievances disguised as tough questions.
Example?
Lack of mana turned Phreak's hair gray
He just needs to acquire a few World Runes.
Nah its either the lighting or he dyed his hair more gray for this, if you check his channel his hair colors way more normal, still has gray in it but its not pure gray like here

Meteos' cook for lvl 1 invade is great.
All suggestions seemed pretty good though aswell!
This might be the best Dive Episode yet and I loved all of them. More of this pls. This neerdy insight into numbers and metas is what I need more of.
such a treat listening to Phreak

@@mikevos4460 i'm subscribed to him but i feel like he's so much more eloquent when with others, especially his classic casting partner kobe

Best episode of the Dive ever. Loved seeing game dev Phreak come back to talk about everything League.
The entire video is the dive members pitching Phreak on their balance changes LMAO
I never liked league podcasts before. But the dive and talking with pro's is some great content
I love watching these shows. Great job everyone
I want Riot to spend a year letting reddit dictate balance changes so people can get a taste for how hard and thankless the job is.
