Yes, most consumers. Buy SUV because they hate the sloping C pillar of modern sedans affecting rear headroom space.
This is due to stupid car designers designing sloping rear to achieve lower drag coefficient to get better fuel mileage whereby consumers hate buying this kind of sloping rear design sedan . Eg .Mercedes CLA, CLS, , Volvo S60 2000 till 2019 ( cannot sell), Audi A5, Peugeot 508, Opel Insignia,
Ford Mondeo , VW PASSAT CC,
Another one sedan forecast with low sales volume will be new Honda Civic .( Sloping rear roof design )

@@konsen6149 Fair, but I wouldn't place the blame on rear slope issues as this would also increase sales of wagons and hatchbacks due to its lack of one. What's actually causing SUVs to skyrocket is a combination of very basic things such as prices being equivalent to what the Accord and Civic are asking, more practicality in comparison to the hatchbacks and wagons we have on sale, a higher-grade of comfort, the bonus of it being guaranteed to handle many weather conditions, and the benefit of safety because the SUV will never lose in a crash (even though it sucks at avoiding them)
EDIT: and if we take a look at a country like Japan, who has placed very strong taxes on larger vehicles, SUVs are pretty much non-existent and are favored for lesser priced vehicles. It may also help that these cars are forced to get smaller in order to comply with the tight Japanese roads (which is why the Suzuki Jimny exists)
In Europe, the same thing can be said. SUVs are too big for the roads in Europe and some places it's impossible to drive with them without worrying about hitting something. While SUV sales have been on an incline in Europe as of recently, these have been regulated to the smaller class SUVs (compact and subcompact SUVs)

@@heart4011 yes heed your reply .
Honestly and realistically speaking the new version of sloping rear design Honda accord does not sell well over this side .
Buyer over this side do not like or buy sloping rear design sedan .
European cars with sloping rear design sedan faces poor sales to the extend of extinction despite many sales promotions and offerings.
The Japanese and Korean are smarter , especially Toyota , Mitsubishi, Nissan , Hyundai , their less sloping rear sedan sell very well compare to other European makers with sloping rear sedan so call sporty sedan ( non functional ) .
This is the fact over here .

Though my new vehicle isn't as fast or fun to drive at top speeds, I prefer the comfort and smooth ride in my new car. A few thoughts. As compared to my 2014 Accord, the new ones are turbo charged, and that leads to questions about long-term reliability vs the old naturally aspirated engines with proven long-term reliability. My 14 has a real hand/emergency brake. They took away the coupe and lost maybe 8 percent of their sales right there. You touched on the cvt, but I would guess that for the average consumer, it's more about the style of the shifter.
With apologies to the almost impossible to find Honda Clarity, how many consumers in this market are holding out for an affordable electric or PHEV that meats their needs to show up?
And of course there is the part market pull, part manufacturers push to turn everything into a jelly bean shaped all wheel drive station wagon with aspirations of being a truck thing. The allure of buying such a beast to go to Wal-Mart hasn't quite afflicted all of the consumers, but it's close.

Honda had initial problems when they first introduced the turbo engine but it's widely accepted that they've mastered it now. CVT will always be a big issue because from a consumer POV, you get an extra few MPG but on the flip side, you get a transmission that wears out faster and can't be remanufactured, costing owners thousands of dollars for a new CVT, if they want to keep it long term. Most people who buy accords or Camry's, want to keep them long term.

The main problem with the new Accord is the hopeless turbo engines both the 1.5 and 2.0. Alot of people know that turbo engines are unreliable and they don't want to deal with it. Honda should have a naturally aspirated engine option too. Like bring back the 3.5 J35 V6

I agree with this. They have compromised the engines with cheap turbos. I think the design also plays a role. The turbo is not a problem, it's fuel efficiency and power is superb for its size and is near silent while cruising. The only real problem is the oil dilution which takes place, this requires a more frequent oil change regime and must be rectified going forward if it has not been already, but it is by no means an unreliable engine. Besides, in the next 10 years every offering from honda and Toyota and other contemporaries will be either fully electric or a hybrid of some sort.

@D.L. Gray Did you miss the word «cheaper» in your own comment ? As I can see, it is obvious you are not aware of the car specifications. The CR-V is based on a Civic frame, not the Accord. Both cars have the same engines and the Accord is more economical in MPG. The cabin is cheaper in the CR-V. Just look at the infotainment system. The one in the Civic is dated and the next CR-V will get the same as the one in the existing Accord. Sitting higher is not an advantage in terms of handling. The Accord is a lot better than the CR-V in that domain. Just a have a look at the critics ! Of course if you are a boomer I can understand why you prefer to sit higher. You may not like the look of the Accord but it has nothing to do with the car quality. Year after year, the Accord is considered one of the best «family car» by MotorTrend (best in 2022). I was looking to replace my '16 TLX Advance with a slightly used '19 TLX but couldn't find one to suit me after months of searching. I considered the Accord 2.0T but kept resisting because of the 4 cylinder. Finally, I decided to test drive one and during the test drive realized that I wasn't giving the Accord enough credit. Last I saw, it is expected to have a redesign/new generation in the ‘23 model, as the Civic just had.
I bought my first Accord LX new in 2001 for around $17k. It served me well. I put roughly 200k on it. I bought my Civic LX new in ‘12 for roughly $18,500. It was totaled in July of last year when I T-boned someone who made an illegal left turn in front of me, also - he obviously didn’t yield, either.. I had about 120k miles on it.
I absolutely loved both of my Hondas up to that point. I joked that I planned to Will my ‘12 Civic to family, as I’d assumed I’d drive it until the wheels fell off. Now, I’m obviously a Honda gal and I also purchase new with cash. Unfortunately, July of 2021 was one of the worst times to be looking for new inventory, as there was a shortage and add-on fees/non-negotiable dealer accessory fees were being tacked on. I was also suffering from a pretty nasty concussion, so it was an awful time to be attempting to make such a large purchase. I just assumed that Hondas had served me well in the past, so whatever I’d be purchasing would be as sufficient. Well, the ‘22 Civic had just had a redesign - normally I would never buy first year of a new generation, I’d prefer they work out their kinks for a year or two first. So I was torn between the existing ‘21s or a ‘22. As the pricing was nearly identical, I opted for the ‘22 Civic Sport. To me, it was the only trim that had wheels I liked.
Well, I’ll tell you, I am not a huge fan of it. It’s very aesthetically pleasing, however, the performance and bugs that have crept up, along with the what I consider to be poor MPGs, I’ve been regretting the purchase since day one. When I went to buy it, no one in the area had any on the lot to even test drive. I had to put a deposit on it and pay the day it arrived. I’ve had multiple false errors pop up and the MPGs don’t match the rating. I’m lucky to get around 23 mpgs. It’s rated at 29/33 I believe. Amongst the forums I’m a member of, others with the sport & LX trims, specifically with the same manufacture date and facility, Canada, that I have. Honda service had it for a week and claimed to have driven it for four miles (the area by that dealership is very congested, always stop and go - they said they had gotten 32 mpgs out of it. Oddly, when I picked it up, the odometer had been tripped and was resting on 4.2 miles. The dash though was resting on 22 mpgs. So I’m curious how it dropped 10 mpgs with a trip from the parking space to the pickup area. So my chief complaint is the mpgs, especially nowadays. As I said, I was rushed making my purchase due to the circumstances of having lost me car in an accident. If I’d had the time to research, I’d obviously had picked the EX trim with the 1.5L engine over the 2.0 I’d gotten with the sport. My ‘12 Civic consistently grabbed around 40 mpgs and I had a super heavy foot. I have dialed my driving way back to a granny level and am still barely snagging 25 mpgs on the absolute best day and on the highway. Also, obviously - without having to go into detail, switching over from my two previous VTECHs to a CVT (something I didn’t research, but a few friends cautioned me about) that’s also another thing I take issue with, but I digress.
The reason I clicked on this video is, since Week No. 2 of owning my new Civic, I was determined to sell it privately or two a place such as Carvana or Carmax because I’ve seen several people in my ‘22 Civic groups doing just that and getting out of theirs. The above businesses are paying thousands over purchase pricing for them bc they’re desperate for used inventory. When the ‘23 Civics or possibly Accords come out, if I can sell mine for my purchase pricing ($27,400 OTC cash) or higher, I’ll likely dump it and either get the new Civic, with bugs hopefully worked out and with a 1.5L, or possibly switch over to an Accord or HRV if the redesign is visually pleasing.
I never thought Honda would let me down. I’d been driving them for almost 25 years, but the quality of the mechanics has slipped, IMO - though they’re still really nice to look at… especially lunar silver, which is all I’ve ever owned. I’m still not considering purchasing any other brand, but I’m exceptionally weary of what Honda is offering now.
The reason I clicked on this video,

Thanks for another great review. We've owned five Accords over the years. Our most recent daily driver is a 2016 Accord EX-L V6 that we purchased new in Feb. 2016... we are more than pleased [except for the sound quality of the audio system] with this car. Honda & the dealership has sent us many offers in the hope that we would trade up to a new Accord or another Honda product. Our '16 has been reliable and well maintained. The offers from Honda are enticing and therefore we have considered trading up, however if we purchased a new Accord, we would be giving up the V6 and saying goodbye to a vehicle that has served us well and is in 'like new' condition. In order to get the most desirable options, we would have to purchase an Acura = as you mentioned: AWD, a V6 turbo, 10 speed transmission, suspension, superb audio ~ just to mention a few. Additional drawbacks for purchasing new is the lack of color options for both exterior & interior. It seems that manufacturers have reduced color choices to a basic 4 and in some vehicles the only interior available is black. When considering buying new, should we settle for a Honda Accord that does not have the "full package" @ $40K or a Acura TLX with the options we want yet perhaps pushing the boundaries of our price range @ $60K? Does Honda want to sell more cars or are they only interested in a fat bottom line?

Overall the car was very good -- it was a good daily driver that did everything pretty well. The car has gotten to be too big -- it's similar to what happened with the 2008-2012 generation. However for me the main reason I won't really consider it is because it's a sedan. Honestly I just like the ride height & how easy it is to get in and out of a crossover than a sedan. Then in the 70’s SUVs started to become popular & if you look at sales charts you will see that beginning in the late 70’s SUV sales began to rise as sedan sales stayed steady. In the late 80’s sedan sales began to taper off & in the early 90’s what is now called a crossover began to be made & crossover/SUV sales continued to rise while sedan sales continued to fall so much so that by the first couple of years of the 2000’s crossover/SUV sales topped sedans and haven’t looked back.

First thanks for all your hard work...nice to see a reviewer that is just on the other side of the Cascades from Salem, Oregon. 😇 Anyway, I've personally owned 9 Toyota and 9 Honda/Acura products of the 33 vehicles I've been blessed to have over the many years. Now I'm showing my young age of 53! ha ha 😉But I must say for me...my Honda products have just been rock solid for interior integrity with no squeaks or rattles (which drives me NUTS otherwise). Where my last couple of Toyota's drove me crazy with very Non-Toyota type problems besides squeaks and rattles with our 2013 Taco TRD Sport Long Bed and 2013 Avalon Limited Hybrid w/Tech Package (they really drove me nuts, sorry to have to say). The longest car I've ever owned was my 2015 Accord Hybrid Touring...just loved it. It fit my wide butt perfectly; and pretty much got 38.3 to 42.4 MPG with better but less efficient Michelin's...and 0-60 between 6.9 to 7.2 seconds depending on which review I'd watch. Mmmmm sigh...I did sell it because we were looking to be cash liquid for bidding on a foreclose that did not work out. But I did not know that my wife was actually not a big fan of it for the passenger comfort. 😳But I've always liked the way a Honda product is a lil' more "connected" or sporty to the road (but that is just me).
Well anyway...my guess to why there are less Accord sales would be because of three (3) primary reasons besides the obvious of people going to SUV / CR-V type vehicles....and that is...A) The 2016 or newer Civic. The Civic is just a very good car for much less (its pretty darn good). My daughter had purchased a 2016 Civic EX-L w/Honda Sensing and it was obviously bigger than our old 1988 or '92 Accord EX (we had decades ago). Yet, the Civic was pretty close to my 2015 (but I still liked my bigger Accord since they really increased in size back in 2013 up). Next, B) Honda does not sell to "Fleet" or Car Rental Agencies...so that would account for a huge difference in sales between the Camry & Accords. Then lastly, C) I really REALLY wish Honda would NOT hold back the cars that are in Japan and other markets...why they just keep trickling in lil' technology (like half (1/2) a digital dash instead of a whole; or glass panoramic moonroof). Seems to me if they brought those or added just few lil' things they would wipe the floor with all the other competition. 🤓🤪So there you go...just my 2-1/2 cents of personal thoughts and past experience...hope it might help others out there! 😎

By the way, I saw these same dropping numbers during the 2020 Pandemic and if you compare to Tesla's growing numbers I think there is a huge switch to Tesla that has taken away market share from BMW as well. I'm in the SF Bay Area and most tech workers are likely to move towards Tesla where the same people were buying luxury sedans or SUV's 20-25 years ago. I am now right where you were a month ago........Accord or Camry????? My 5 day work week consists of driving 120 miles a day on the highway. So I am considering 2 models currently: Accord Touring Hybrid or Camry XSE Hybrid. From all of the research I have done, there is one distinct difference between the engine setups. The Accord when comparing mpg does better slightly than the Camry around town with stop and go traffic due to its Regen Braking System. But the Camry does roughly 5mpg better on the hwy. So you would think the obvious choice for me would be the Camry. Heck seems 1 out of every 15 vehicles I see on the road where I am are all Camrys, so it's not like the popularity isn't obvious. The Accord does bring a price tag of $4,500 more than the Camry. And Toyota gives you (already in the price of the car) a 2yr or 24k miles Maintenance Plan.
It would seem like I am talking myself into the Camry as I am sure this is probably what anyone that bought the Camry probably considered before buying because these cars are very similar in the market. But the thing that is stuck in the back of my mind is the Accord does look better. Giving you wireless Apple Carplay or Android Auto, A/C ventilated front seats, tinted rear glass, and the Sonic Gray Pearl beats the 3 color options for the Camry.
What is also sticking out to me since I had been looking at turbo cars like the Golf GTI or R, Audi A4, and so forth.......the Honda turbo engines allow for regular gas which is not normal in a turbo market. Premium here is $5.20gal and only slated to rise in price.
So it will actually come down to driving both cars.........who knows......if the local Honda dealer throws in the same maintenance plan I will probably sign so we will see.

@@Remnant1976 for me the final issue is simply the perception of these cars regarding vandalism and theft. I see more of that on Accords. I won’t be buying Audi or VW again because of reliability issues. Camry seems more sturdy when carrying more people in the car and I actually don’t mind the understated basic look however the nightshade edition looks good on a Camry and Venza too.

Sales dipped in 2018 when they released the new body style. I think the previous accord was much more attractive on the outside. The latest model interior is better.
I drive an Acura TL and the car is exceptionally reliable and sporty. My TL has a non aspirated V6 instead of forcing a 4 cylinder with a turbo to be overworked. The J Series engines were the best on the market but everyone wants to put in these small turbocharged engines that require premium gas. I will pass.

Sales did not really drop. Its the SUV craze thats going on that hurt the Accord sales. Also the new Accord is probably best looking Accord yet. Very sharp.

Lol as the others have said Honda tuned the 1.5 turbo for regular gas. Technically no Honda car *requires* premium. My old '16 Touring v6 even then didn't, it's preferred perhaps but Honda themselves say regular unleaded is just fine.

@Tony Camaj I have the V6 J32 in my 2006 TL and it does say it 'prefers' premium. I have put 87 in it for 13 years and so has my friend who owns the same car. No problems with either car.

I went from a 2018 GMC Seirra Denali truck to a 2022 Honda Accord Sport and I absolutely love it! Much less pain at the gas pump as well!😉

I had a 2018 Honda Accord and had nothing but issues. Traded in for my 20 sonata and have loved every bit of it.

That awful rear end would drive away many potential buyers. People wary of small turbo engines propelling large cars. CVT transmissions are inherently boring.
