Today's Update For Sea of Thieves Was Weird.
Today, we're looking at the last patch for Season 8, which included a new outpost update, some fixes, some balance changes and the Pirate Emporium update, featuring the legendary Master Chief from Halo.
With Season 8 being the best update in years, Rare has continued to update it and improves it even further, smoothing out some of the matchmaking and progression problems. With New Golden Sands getting a huge upgrade too (and more on the way), is it a fantastic time to be a Sea of Thieves player?

There are doorways in each of the new buildings that are gated off. They might open and lead to guild locations at a later date but maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.
They should some sort of black market where you have a chance to get good things for cheaper but a very rare chance
Sounds good but to be new uses they would have to be worth something and as golden sands is real far west it would kinda be shit

They’re really nailing the 1700’s vibe. I can see all of new golden sands being what most port towns outside the shroud look like. At least the non respectable GMU ones. I think my favourite parts so far are the underground tunnels and OOS building, they’re keeping that pirate vibe alive on an island that’s coming uncomfortably close to being a sovereign paradise.

I wish they’d add npc’s to the outpost, even if you can’t interact with them. It seems so barren with only a handful of them. It needs people sitting in the tavern and standing next to shops
I want them to bring back a co-op boss fight in season 10 or in an adventure. This season filled my pvp stomach, but lately i've been thinking about hungering deep, pirates coming together, solving a musical puzzle, seeing the tats glow, hearing the ancients sing "summon the megalodon" and taking down the big girl... Yeah we need more of that
I think one of the next updates should be an upgrade all the outposts update. It could be done by treasure turned in, with certain milestones for each gold amount made by each outpost

Despite fighting for the reapers in the war for golden sands I’m kinda glad the Athena side won, I’m loving golden sands so far
Same here. I love the idea of the Reapers winning but having another turn in point is not a good idea. It also seemed to be more like the LotV forts, rather than an actual Reaper aesthetic.
Eh, they win golden sands, we beat Pendragon and brought our liege back. I'd say we're even in a fair way
I still wish I could have seen what would of happened if reapers won.
I wonder how they're going to upgrade the merchant dock. I am hoping for a small warehouse/market. They could have goods sitting everywhere, along with lengthy manifests and envelopes containing orders from their customers.
I just hope Sot makes a crossover with doom. It would be so cool
Worth noting is that Mavis and Sharon's stations at the dock both have moving racks filled with furnishings nearby, indicating that their stations will receive the same facelift that the rest of the NPCs have.
Quality over quantity of content, I remember when folks use to wait in lines for days in tents outside stores for game releases after waiting over a year from the first teaser trailer.
Ah simpler times where you would savor each squeezed drop of the new content, even replaying entire campaigns multiple times in a row.
The slightly increased travel distance to drop off treasure for gold hoarders and order of souls may reduce the number of non-captain ships making anchor at new golden sands, time will have to be a judge on player traffic there after a honeymoon period with the player base.
They should make a secret underground bank vault area where you can se physically how much gold you have like Gringotts
I spent an hour wandering around new golden sands and just exploring all of the hidden things. The underground tunnel for boats under the tavern is really nice.
We played yesterday on a galleon after the update. We did 5 games and then an infinite matchmaking time and impossible to sell athena flags to the mysterious stranger while being athena ourselves

Thinking about the Dark Deception adventure, I find myself reminded of the hints we got when Merrick's ghost was kidnapped by the Dark Brethren. Wasn't it mentioned (by Belle I think?) that Merrick "knows more than he realises"?
Then there's that "captive Ancient" that was hinted at during the fight over Golden Sands, who was probably the mysterious ghost that kept appearing on the island when the Reapers were winning... perhaps that little idea ended with the Reaper's defeat, but maybe not?
I think it's either pendragon himself is the traitor or blind bob. Nobody else is big enough to mention.

@@infinitypeaches3329 he freed flameheart and then randomly stabbed a painting that brought him back. I think something is off with him. Or he's just a moron. He also was sus in the last adventure with stitcher Jim. He is trapped in the same place flameheart was. Flameheart was still able to do things in the world from that location. Pendragon may still be the rat.

It seems like that the Merchants alliance is getting an upgrade in sot's next update, they are packed up on wheel barrows and seem like they're about to move, I would say the same for the shipwright but it has always seemed empty there should be exciting even with the new tower coming
It would be a real plot twist if the statue was of flameheart

Me and my buddy were discussing the addition of more npc's to New Golden Sands. Making it more alive and bustling with pirates selling their loot, getting drunk, playing music, that kind of stuff. Now the looks are great, but it feels só very dead.
Here is a question since the gold hoarders out of the picture are the representatives just getting gold for themselves or they still hoarding it for him in hopes that he comes back again
When they talked about skill-based matchmaking for the first time I was already afraid that SoT won't have enough players to keep this up for too long with quick matchmaking queues due to forcing players to choose one side, then there are the regions as well. They came up with same-faction battles(which surprised me because it goes against the lore pretty much)which made the queue times better, however if someone is a completionist it really makes the commendation progressing harder.. sometimes I get 4/4 fights against same faction so getting absolutely zero progress towards the post-curse commendations - except for streaks. I also get it that they want to ensure that bad players also enjoying this pvp mode, however I liked the old way much better. When you've set sail in adventure you never knew what will happen on a server, and that was realistic. Now with this update they made the matchmaking even tighter which is making the progressing even harder. If someone is seeking for challenge this is good, if someone like me already burnt out of this gamemode because of cheaters and the insanely low rep for the tons of fights, I would rather just finish the commendations and never look back.. I completed every commendations before season 8 apart from shrouded ghosts, but I think this season is my limit because it's just too much of a grind for a healthy human 😌
This Halo themed skin is very bad news for the future of this game once Disney realizes that it can push its other properties through SoT as well. Get ready for Encanto themed boats, Baby Yoda pet emotes, and Mandalorian skins.

I wonder if the whole gold hoarder bank and order of souls a building can lead to the teased alliance thing from the orb stream and if so I could see other outpost getting updates to be like golden sands i mean imagine galleons graves tavern being cut into the rock or it’s built around it a bit and I hope we get at least new voyages maybe that’s what the teaser is for I mean order of souls just make a skeleton lord hunt
I just want Golden Sands to be a friendly place. It's hard to make friends in SoT nowdays. People were a lot friendlier from launch till 2 years after launch. It'd be nice to just sit down, maybe roleplay a bit with strangers.
it would be cool if the other outposts got changes too but different themes like one is kept the same but with a big upgrade and another is supposed to have a reaper theme to it
Whenever I have a good day on SoT and get a lot of money I’m now referring to the amount I get as a “Metric fuck ton of gold”

I theorize that the "lighthouse" isn't actually going to be a light house, think its going to be a newer sovereigns tower, because the current one is just on a dock thats being cut off by the port stuff, and there is a rowboat spot nearby it. And finally, its clearly going to be a tower, they could have the elevator be at the door then the sovereign be up on the second floor near the harpoons
the pirate diving into gold is more likely to be a reference to disney's ducktales with scrooge mcduck
I think Sea Of Thieves should do pirates of dark Waters. It was a cartoon in the 90s and it was awesome.

They also decided to shadow patch anchor mushroom, so you cant place crates on the anchor anymore.. best part of the patch for me.
Lack luster episodes combined with adventures on hold means resources are being put into something big coming. Last this happened we got pirates life
How do you join hourglass pvp with randoms?
They didn't really said cross stamp is now available, they said that there are bigger ranges so that the matchmaking times are smaller

They fixed it where you can't put loot on the capstan to prevent being anchored. Wasn't in the patch notes.
I'm actually kinda relieved that the next adventure is delayed. It's hard to enjoy the game anymore because of the adventures. Reason being they are a one time thing, don't last very long and at first they felt very back to back. This makes players that want to play them stress over if and when they'll be able to do them. Especially if they don't have lot's of time, causing someone to miss out because they have a life outside of the game and can't be playing as much as someone else.
I'm just glad I have a chance to take a break and enjoy normal game play and do some pre existing stuff.

I was saying that is how they felt to me when they first started, not that that actually are. I like to take my time when playing a game and it felt rushed as fare as gameplay goes for me. It may not feel that way for others like you because we all have our own pace.

@@infinitypeaches3329 and some Pirates clothing chest on the last page of belts there's a belt name placeholder that's blue with a gold buckle some Pirates have some don't it's just something that made it into the game by accident or they weren't releasing yet hence why it's called placeholder

Ngl, I'm probably the only one that feels this way but having missed all previous halo events and wanting the halo ship cosmetic. It makes me a bit sad we don't get the free ship cosmetics but instead some microtransaction skins that aren't the same. They are nice though.

Honestly as big as season 8 was and them going back to tweak the pvp consistently, I knew season 9 and it's pre launch period were gonna be rather quiet and "underwhelming". The devs need a break and I look forward to season 10 getting a bit more hype to it.

i havent played this game since season 3 or 4 (the one with jack sparrow) and well- it has changed a LOT since then lol shame none of my friends want to play it with me currently

I don't think there's any indication that same-faction flags give you allegiance for Guardians. Seems to point to flags giving money and reputation, reference Athena's fortune. I think this change was made to align it with the options reapers has

I just happened to update sea of thieves after several months of not playing literally ten minutes before the update was released so I was stuck on the update screen for about half an hour.
it's also a LOT harder to put loot on your capstan now
i am genuinely fine with adventures being delayed. i speak for alot of people when i say having to log in just to do the adventures every few weeks and them being limited to 2 weeks was annoying especially if you were burnt out prior
imagine adding a bank in a pirate game and not adding a robing mechanics, this game decieves me more and more each update, I hope anniverseray will bring hot stuff
I really wouldnt want to be a newbie trying to sell at golden sands one all the turn in points are in the city itself. They are turning it into dagger tooth - except at dagger tooth you can see all the turn ins at the beach - newbies are going to have to go hunting and that may well not work out well for them.
*Edit* - having now had an explore, the outer buildings are visible from the beach, though a newbie may not understand their nature - the npcs are secured within. Even so, its still moving turn ins further away, which i am not happy about.
The new skins look piratey but also look extremely like halo
Spent all my ancient coins I have been saving on the weapons don't have the poses only a few ancient coins short so hopefully I find an ancient skelly not a fan of the costume.
I really don’t think seasons are to long. I play casual bc of work and it’s great that I’m not stressed to finish the season in time

Each to their own of course, but I LOVE the new ship set. The black and rust is a color combo I've been begging for. It's too bad it has white accents, but of well. As for the weapon pack, I never played Halo, but I assume these will appeal to the massive fan base of that game. As with all the "special" weapon sets, they are too bulky for my tastes. I actually want more historically inspired, "accurate" weapon sets.

Even though the nee buildings are cool asf, I see they're probably going to be very annoying go sell, especially for the OoS. You'll have to carry individual skulls (unless have a collectors chest) up a flight of stairs then down a flight of stairs and repeat. Gold Hoarder will also be annoying but less stairs.

I hope the castaway gets her own building too. Personally I’m not a fan of NPCs being everywhere at once so it’d be nice for her to get her own building and be possibly removed from other outposts. I have the same quarrel with Larinna and would rather have unique member of the bilge rats at each outpost. But I’m just picky! The Mysterious Stranger is a different story.. he is mysterious after all

I agree, but the convenience is clearly running your missions as a Captain, so they may be more flexible with the outpost designs. I'm in favor of that.
