If you haven't heard "Let's Stay Together", that should be your next song by Al. If you have, then I recommend "Tired of Being Alone". Every early '70s Al Green hit is good, so I hope you come back to him soon.
Now you're talking! I was a huge Al Green fan back in the day and still listen to this same album regularly. There is not a bad song on this album. The music on this album just makes you feel good and mellow. This is his prime. Horns are smooth and subtle. His voice oozes soul. This is REAL music. Do "Let's Get Married" "Tired of Being Alone" and "Let's Stay Together" from this album. PLEASE!
Finally. I can't believe you haven't done a deeper dive on him. Between his falsetto and the Memphis horns... Here are more to check out from him: let’s stay together, you ought to be with me, call me, sha-la-la, tired of being alone, I’m still in love with you, here I am (come and take me), look what you done for me, love is a beautiful thing, for the good times, funny how time slips away (also done by ray price and there's a lovely cover of this with al green and lyle lovett you should check out as well). And he and Annie Lennox do a nice version of Put A Little Love In Your Heart.
Omg. My mom played this man’s music all the time, and if she had her friends over, it was an Al Greene party . Wonderful memories of a 70s childhood. His song “For The Good Times”. Whew…
OMG yes! A 70s childhood..great memories! I remember the grown folks would be in the front room playing records on the record player, drinking cocktails and smoking cigarettes(I mean, it was the 70s). And the kids would be in a back room watching tv and playing games, and sometimes we’d sneak out into the hallway to listen to the music and laughter. Good times!🥰
@Bronwyn-cf3um Wow, did we all have identical childhoods? You painted the picture exactly. For me, it would be aunts, uncles, and my cousins. We would be watching TV or listening to our own music while playing boardgames. I had a collection of other stuff from prior Christmases like a pinball machine, a 3 in 1 pool table, air hockey, and ping-pong table. I look back at those times with great joy and a bit of melancholy because the adults are all gone even many of my cousins. I, myself, had come close calls due to epilepsy and kidney failure. I thank my parents, aunts, and uncles, for the wisdom they gave me. The music and Good Times* then were truly fun, and the best! *Had to give a salute to the CHIC song and to the TV show that gave the world Thelma Evans aka Bernadetts Stanis my first crush!😂
@@seanswinton6242 Yes, many of my grown folks and cousins have gone on to glory as well and I miss them, but I have the memories to warm my heart. I’m sorry about your health issues and I pray that you are blessed with healing, love and many years to come.🙏🏽💖
Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson and AL Green are the HOLY TRINITY OF MALE VOICES outside of the JAZZ genre! Then I would go with David Ruffin! Thanks for reacting to THE GOOD REVEREND! Great Video! Great Reaction!
Yes, David Ruffin's My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me) and they could play Jimmy Ruffin's What Becomes of the Broken Hearted. They could also play Eddie Kendricks Keep on Truckin' and Boogie Down.
Don't forget Al Wilson singing "Show And Tell", "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers, Bobby Womack singing "If You Think You're Lonely Now" and "Across 110th Street" and The Dramatics great tune "In The Rain." Enjoy!
In our tradition , especially in the JAZZ Genre, the voice in and of itself is an instrument. That being said, David Ruffin 's ability to convey the emotions of any song makes him top tear. That's why he's near of the top of my list. Marvin Gaye and Prince are next on my list.
Yes! One of the best! Should be on your daily playlist His song "Let's Stay Together" is great too. In fact, pick up his greatest hits as you will want each song on your playlist.
First of all, Mr. Green is in a class all on his own. He exudes smooth and cool. That voice is awesome. Secondly, that band is so tight, so talented. I wish music today were more like this.
Al Green is one of the greatest singers of the rock era: His best songs include: "Tired Of Being Alone", "I'm Still In Love With You", "Let's Stay Together", "Look What You've Done For Me", "You Ought To Be With Me", "For The Good Times".
I love this one! I remember watching my parents and other relatives tear up the floor on this one, and when I was older and understood the lyrics, I felt the song even more and tore up the floor, too. 😊 One night, I was at the club with friends and a man in his early 70s asked me to dance to this song. He was a little more than forty years older than me, but he showed out. I danced with him a lot that night as he put the guys in their 30s to shame. 😄 Next by Al... "For the Good Times". My boyfriend used to play that one a lot. Slow dancing to it on repeat made for many romantic evenings.😊
I am very proud to be a 55 yr old white grandma who CANNOT clean house without Al singing me through it. I am a happy girl when his music is filling the air. No matter where I catch him, my heart gets all kinds of happy. Love this man from toddler and through eternity.
That hard driving rhythm is courtesy of the Hi Rhythm section (as in Hi Records, the label for which it was recorded) - Mabon “Teenie” Hodges on guitar, his brothers Charles on organ and Leroy on bass, and Howard Grimes and Al Jackson, Jr. on drums. Horns by Wayne Jackson, of the Memphis Horns, on trumpet and Jack Hale on trombone. The song was written by Al Green and Teenie Hodges. Who co-wrote several of Al’s hits, including Take Me to the River. Another great Hi Records song featuring the Hi Rhythm section you don’t want to miss is Ann Peebles “I Can’t Stand the Rain” - a great Friday choice!

Awesome! ❤ Al Green, Marvin Gaye and Ron Isley were the smoothest velvety voices of the early 70's R&B 🎶 Great many hits these guys made, you don't hear music like this anymore. Thank you for the great memories 🥲 recommend "I'm so in love with you" and "Here I am baby". Thank you Peace! 🙏
Al Green started as a Gospel singer. His father was a pastor and he did not approve of Als soul music. Thank God Al didn't listen. His voice is EVERYTHING! ❤❤❤❤ LOVE y'all's videos. They make my day. Keep them coming!
Al Green sings from deep in his soul and just FEELS his music. "Tired of Being Alone" was the first song of his I heard on the radio as a teenager and it just moved me like few radio songs had up until that time.
Al sort of stopped performing while doing his Preaching, then started doing some small shows and what. I used to work with a fellow who drummed for AL when he did gigs down around NOLA up into Southern Mississippi. He had a calendar with gigs listed so if someone forgot they could check to see if Milton had to go drum for AL. Al posted a pic on Twitter some time back, someone pasted that pic of him on the album, over the W at Walgreen's making it an algreen's and it tickled him. "Who did this?🤣🤣"
Rev. Al is the GOAT. If you did a month of Al 3 times a day, you still wouldn't scratch the surface of this man's greatness. Everything he recorded from the early 1970s to the 2000s is pure fire.

Oh, and this song is covered by Toots Hibbert (the most soulful reggae singer). Toots and the Maytals do a great job with this song. Great upload.
I was between 16 and 17 when this so g came out . I'll be 65 in February. All of those songs of that period before and after sound great!!! I love AL Green ❤💕
I was lucky enough to meet reverend green and told him how I would get lost in his music and lose all track of time he put his hands together and told me how much he appreciated me telling him that and that it made him feel good inside when people told him that. The man is an absolute treasure!!
Wow! Great production laid on top of a simply, driving straight forward beat. Horns, keys, guitar, background vocals all placed so well. And the lead vocal, Al Green second to none. Great song I've heard a million times.
I first fell in love with this song when I seen him perform it on the Letterman Show. Dave was a huge Al Green fan and after hearing this song, I became one too. This and “Let’s Stay Together” are my favorites. I just love sitting in a mellow bar listening to his music. It get’s me so relaxed and in a zone. What an amazing voice and some smooth ass music.

How about “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart?”

I was lucky enough to meet reverend green and told him how I would get lost in his music and lose all track of time he put his hands together and told me how much he appreciated me telling him that and that it made him feel good inside when people told him that. The man is an absolute treasure!!
Thank you!! This is my favorite Al Green song. You can also check out his Soul Train performance of 'Here I Am'.
There's only ONE Reverend Al Green.
I sent this to my man awhile ago. so on point and sweet!
OK - brought this reaction up and really don't even need to WATCH IT!! I KNOW what ya'll are gonna THINK about THIS ONE!! HANDS DOWN!!! ENJOY!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Wow! Great production laid on top of a simply, driving straight forward beat. Horns, keys, guitar, background vocals all placed so well. And the lead vocal, Al Green second to none. Great song I've heard a million times.
This is my favorite Al Green song. It's the whole package: amazing groove, terrific vocals, plus the horns and the organ!
Reverend Al! Love him
My momma loved him. She wouldn’t let me play her albums because she thought I would scratch them
