The planks/crunches challenge seems a bit easy compared to the pullups and run in the PFT. 21 pullups and 18 min 3-mile are both things you need to train to be able to get, but a lot of people can max the plank/crunches without much or even any training. That beast Madrigal did it in half the time. I haven't tried the CFT events, so I don't know if there are any unbalanced events there too. Kubinsky is a beast. You gotta train them planks & crunches and get a rematch, Bison.
Crunches are definitely the "easiest" of it all, especially for certain body types. If you look at the Marine who did over 100 in a min he's barely moving. The CFT isn't bad overall, but I think my shin splints came back just watching the 800 in boots.
Dude the CFT is a slayfest. Doing the CFT right after a PFT is just brutal lol. Your legs are so tired after an all out effort 3 mile, pull ups and crunches work the rest of your body. Everything aches. You guys are mad men and Nicks fitness is insane. 99.999% of people can't perform at this level.
@jumbo The whole purpose of a general fitness test is exactly to test in a standardized situation how well you fare compared to others. If you cheat, you're essentially skewing the standard. Not the same thing as "cheating" on practical fitness (which would be less 'cheating' and more about being functional as you sad). If you do 50 sloppy as fuck pull ups, your score should not be better than someone who did 30 good form ones
@jumbo Everyone isn't. Besides, if you don't follow the standard, it obviously skews the results - just like if you saying something with 0.998 kg has exactly 1 kilo. It's not standard. Simply put.
Their numbers were better but the bisons form was better for pretty much everything. Many of their chins didn’t clear the bar for chin ups. Lots of their butts were in the air for planks Kubinskis box didn’t lower below his chin and he also leaned back

9:48 if its an endurance race like road bicycle racing or this one, always save your energy at the early pace. the moment you're near distance by the finish line, go all out.
We do planks in the navy as well. Planks are a great test for.... how many times you practiced doing planks in the 3 weeks beforehand. I just started throwing them in at the end of my normal ab workouts so that I didnt feel like I was wasting my time practicing them
nick, your 17:50 3mile was faster than any race time i had ever gotten in my 3 year varsity cross country career in highschool. in fact, your time is better than 90% of what i saw, and we were d 2, so its really not anything to take lightly. 17:50 is blistering fast in my opinion for a 3mile fastest i ever saw was like 14:50 ish
I don’t know what state you run in, but in California most average varsity athletes run in the 16:30s, most of it honestly has to do with base training mileage. If you don’t have the base you won’t be running under 17mins
That’s a blazing fast time for the Marine Corps Kyle, since we don’t specialize in just running, but as I’ve seen most marines don’t see any virtue in cardio in general. For runners that compete, our 18minute 3mile is like a jog. I’m saying that as a guy who ran Community College level and our tempos were at 5:00min pace for 3miles that it isn’t that fast for strictly just competitive runners.
Epic video as always!! nice timing to cuz i just get a letter in the mail from the marine corps today, been thinking about joining for a little while now but need to wait about few months so we'll see!
You should and get a good career that would transfer well to civilian life. I would have liked to join them too but I was cursed with asthma so it affects my cardio and they will not let me in. So I now am stuck in finding a trade or going to a police academy.
@@trizz9496 yeah I know, I could lie but even if I do makebit through boot camp and they find out I have asthma and I lied I would be discharged and have to pay a big fee for them wasting resources on me.
That's still impressive for a guy almost twice the age of these Marines to keep relatively close to them. Marines are some of the few people I call actual badasses. They earn what they get.
Wow Nick! You would've gotten the 300 if you had done the crunches. Objectively so much easier than the plank. But got to say, so dang impressed with your 3 mile time. Just shows how life long cardio helps you still kick butt.
Starting at 11:44. Kubinsky is doing the ammo can push-press incorrectly. Hips drive out and not up, not locking the ammo can out above the head and pushing his head through his arms at the end. The ammo can push-press/CrossFit push-press main muscle groups are the shoulders, triceps, glutes, quadriceps, and core. His motion with the ammo can is going away from his body and more of the ammo can "chest press". Which will allow him to gain faster reps and not burn out as quickly, because he is using more of his chest than shoulders. This would be considered a no rep because I can imagine the average of people can bench press more than they can push-press. Similar to how you could probably back squat more than you could Overhead squat. Unless you specifically try to train those areas of strength. I would think people with experience in CrossFit would call this a no rep. That's where my attention is drawn, because of the time I had in CrossFit. As those more familiar with running techniques would be better far off than me to critique and teach proper form because I hate running. lol. Years of basketball, it's done enough for my body.
You should try hyrox and then make a big video about the race and the training and your nutrition it's the perfect race for you runing and crossfit/fitness
Kubinsky was in good shape, but I'd hardly say that the rest "are some of the fittest marines the Core has ever produced." Most of those guys are pretty average by Marcie Core standards, yet one may say by American standards they are in great shape.
They're definitely buff as hell, but yeah, as far as Marines are concerned, fitness wise I don't think they are the creme de la creme. Maybe Kubinsky is up there in top 10000 or so.
Didn't have planks when I was in. Only had crunches. We trained for it all the time though, it was the easiest event to get 100 in. I could always get 300, but the pull ups were always close and hard to get, best 3 miler was 16.10
@@elliejoy89 5-10 mile runs, 3 days a week. That's was our usual PT in the Marines. Being used to running even longer made the 3 mile run seem easy. I also played basketball for fun, would do that for hours. I'm 6'4", so have long legs. The key was learning to keep big strides the whole run. Before the Marines, I only did basketball and track in school (400m, 800m). I was NOT used to long runs. Early on, I found myself chopping my stride, taking smell steps while running due to fatigue. The constant longer runs helped improve that. Once you're used to 5 miles, 3 miles doesn't seem too bad. 🙂
Nick you gotta try the Air Force PAST test… thats a max pull ups 1 minute, 2 minute max sit up, 2 minute max push up, 1.5 mile run, 25m underwater swim, 500m (breaststroke, sidestroke, and freestyle)
This is a tough time on or off the track and I don’t care what anyone says. I was never that close off the track (fastest off track was a 5k split for my 10k race in 2019 at a 19:59 and 19:57 so I negative splitted that race) but on the track, for fun, I had a friend be pacesetter and time trialer for me at the track. He had me running a 18:38 in the windy Fall.
Ah that was such a fun day! You killed it though! It would be fun to see a mix of events along with some powerlifting and long endurance like a ruck hike.
I'm preparing for the Armed Police of my country and this video makes me feel good about myself - My personal record for plank pose (so far) is 1:07 minutes but that was relatively long ago in an EXTENDED plank pose Edit: I'm from India and I wish we had people like you and the US Marines here - I really do. Peace, thanks.
Hell yea bro. Glad to see you taking on these challenges the military has some elite top tier athletes. Kubinski is ridiculous both tests back to back. Shew.
It may have been the camera and the speed, but some of the Marines didn't go all the way up the pull up bar for pull ups. Also, I saw two Marines doing chin ups, not a real pull up.
Not to be disrespectful but the ammo lifts Brodie didn't do them correct like Nick and in the beginning a lot of the guys barely had their chin on the bar as Nick surpassed it. Respect.
not to hate and massive respect to everyone here, just about a joke: "this man cant be stopped" and the way it looked almost had me on the ground lmao. ps not gonna lie i could never do as much or be as fit as any of them in my life, mad respect, gg.
Was it just me that thought many of the pull ups and push ups and crunches done by some of the marines were less than perfect, whereas Nick was really conscientious and did them properly, but at the expense of a lower score? Eg the pushups by kubinski at 13.00. His arms are no where near full lock when lifting. And as for that guy doing the crunches at 3.30, he is barely moving his body. Same with many of the pullups, their chins frequently did not clear the bar. I think Nick was a lot closer than the scores suggest.
@@ernestjohnson1275 It is possible you are trolling me, but in case you are serious, did you look again at the examples I cited? I've seen this type of thing many times and always wondered why the supervisors allow it.

That's crazy nick, I know we have perfect knife hands, palms flat to the deck back straight eyes to the front when we do our planks.
That was fantastic on everybody’s part great job!
yess! agreed
The only cake walk in the CFT is the ammo can. You can use your legs to assist you so much and make it purely a chest/legs workout
Hey that’s me!😁
🥇💪
Great video. I find a lot of these come down to who cheats the most with their technique. You can’t cheat the running though.
yes everyone had another technique
Lots of their butts were in the air for planks
Kubinskis box didn’t lower below his chin and he also leaned back
That was an impressive result doing those two tests back to back.
SERGEANT FRIEZE, THATS MY HOMIE SINCE 3RD GRADE!!!
ACTUALLY MIGHTVE BEEN HIS BEST VDEO!!!!
You see the problem was you were maintaining perfect form with the ammo can lifts.
that's the problem with every test except running really, perfect form makes you able to do less reps or hold the plank for less long on most tests
Wow you did good to do all that at your age. Thanks for letting everyone know what these new Marines go through
he did amazing!

how long can you hold a plank?

@@patrickcarter6658 ah okey :)
nick, your 17:50 3mile was faster than any race time i had ever gotten in my 3 year varsity cross country career in highschool. in fact, your time is better than 90% of what i saw, and we were d 2, so its really not anything to take lightly.
17:50 is blistering fast in my opinion for a 3mile
fastest i ever saw was like 14:50 ish
ya bro hes an olympic runner lmfao
I don’t know what state you run in, but in California most average varsity athletes run in the 16:30s, most of it honestly has to do with base training mileage. If you don’t have the base you won’t be running under 17mins
My best time i ever ran in the Marine Corps was 18:10. anything sub 18 is blazing fast.
@@armandosolis9539 I had to work my ass to get around 18 mins. Some people are natural good runners I was not.

That's still impressive for a guy almost twice the age of these Marines to keep relatively close to them. Marines are some of the few people I call actual badasses. They earn what they get.
That ammo can lift was so cheap he wasn't even clearing his head half the time
this is surprisingly similar to the test my martial arts teacher made us do for the conditioning part of our black belt test
Wow Nick! You would've gotten the 300 if you had done the crunches. Objectively so much easier than the plank. But got to say, so dang impressed with your 3 mile time. Just shows how life long cardio helps you still kick butt.
If I was still in I’d likely go for the plank, I think they added that a year or two after I got out.
how is it objectively better though

Great showcase of practical fairness and just how tough our service men and women are.
Kibinski is an absolute UNIT
the range of motion for these crunches is interesting. Where I am from we have to connect our elbows to our knees to make a rep count
Didn't have planks when I was in. Only had crunches. We trained for it all the time though, it was the easiest event to get 100 in.
I could always get 300, but the pull ups were always close and hard to get, best 3 miler was 16.10
What did you do to train to be so fast for the 3 mile?

Respect.
