Your class overviews for GW2 are exactly what I was looking for. It's so difficult to find class overviews for MMOs that are not build guides or leveling guides.
I play ranger for 11 years, still love it. 4 weeks and we will get a nice pet upgrade too. Also, there is way to heal your pet while it is down and it will return as normal if you can heal to full health. But you need a trait for it.
In my opinion, since the dps traits were added to Druid, staff should be like hammer where you get to choose skills. So staff skills switch to dmg options as such 1 pulses with burning 2 more damage and pulses more burning 3 does damage and counts as blast 4 another blast does more damage and bleeding, but no longer immobilizes but cripples instead 5 works as is, but causes enemy's who pass through to get bleeding/cripple. That's my only gripe about ranger. I wanna be a Druid damage dealer shooting thorns and burning stars.
This is a very detailed guide -- very nice. IMO, Soulbeast is the best Ranger Elite Spec and Untamed is an embarrassing attempt to recreate the "Bunny Thumper" -- the Unleashed mechanic is so cumbersome it's not even worth it.
@@CaffeinatedDad The main skill is Rampage as One to attack 33% fast to build-up adrenaline and to chain knockdowns (hammer bash). You and your pet applies condition to knocked down foes (crushing blow + beastial mauling). Daze is anti-caster and Deep wound is anti-healer, so as you would guess, healers are the bunnies. The main problem with Untamed is they went with a clunky Untamed mechanic instead of giving Rangers adrenaline bar.
I've been playing for over 11 years, and still don't have a main. But if I were to ever have one, I think ranger would be a top contender simply because, as you point out, of its versatility. Right now, by default, I typically just log onto my mechanist to unthinkingly bang off my dailies. Just because it's brain dead simple. But just because it's my default currently, I'm not sure I'd call mechanist my main. Depending on how the pet changes work out in the upcoming patch at the end of this month, maybe I'll finally settle on a main after 11 years. Will see.
have been a theif main for a little more than a year then I found Power Hammer/Longbow Soulbeast and now I am a Ranger main it is so survivable vand easy to play compared to the thief
I'd love to play Untamed... but the whole 'stink cloud' visual for Unleashing either the pet or PC just... turns me off of it massively? So I end up defaulting to Soul Beast just because I can absorb and release my pet repeatedly to keep it alive more easily while using the skills it gives me. It's not my favorite, but it works.
Mood. It would be fine if there was an effect of some sort maybe on the ground below you or a faint green glow, but taking over your entire avatar is too much. You look like a toxic sludge or something.
I played the game non stop at release and my main was a Ranger (level 80 and full exotic gear). I want to start playing again but honestly have no clue what builds are considered good, any tips would be appreciated
Hey caffeinated dad, I’ve been grinding to get a griffon for some time now, and I keep getting stuck at the corrupted facet legendary bounty. Either nobody shows up for my listing in LFG, or I miss it when someone initiated the bounty. Is there anything I can do, or anything you can do to help me? I have nowhere else to turn to so here I am ranting in your comment section :,(
I really like playing longbow and ranged. Is core ranger a viable thing or do I have to go one of the elite spez? Im 80 now but for now still focusing on story.
Hmmm... so a ranger can use the same weapons as a warrior and it can use a staff? Do alot of classes.overlap like this? And if so why be a warrior for example if you could just use ranger??
Was looking through the classes and I thought this one was gonna be for me cause I love archers but from the gameplay videos this class seems anything other than one? It almost always looks like a full melee class 😭
I like the bias against the healing line while leveling while the other specializations get a short couple sentences, the healing one cuts off mid first sentence.🤣
Are you sure dual axes build works? Right hand is ranged and left hand is melee. (Asking just caused I noticed it in your video) Personally I find Axe/Warhorn for Ranged and Sword/Axe for Melee way more useful. And with the build of Nature Magic / Beastmaster / Untamed the Ranger becomes a damage-dealing tank. And both sets get the axe's ferocity bonus that way.
Elite specs would definitely change your playstyle a bit. You could actually probably incorporate the untamed elite spec and not have it change your playstyle all that much.. and the added damage from the ambushed skills would be a good addition to your rotation, without changing your existing playstyle all that much.
armor with berserker stats and rune of deadeye. longbow/ sword and axe with sigil of force and accuracy. Build template: [&DQQIOh41IDZ5AHkAlgGWAbgAuACsAawB7QDtADkzDCsAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA==]
The problem with the ranger is that the elite specs don't really mesh well with the playstyle of core ranger. A lot of people like ranger because it's a chill class that has a useful pet tank, but the only elite spec that actually uses the pet is relatively complex and the most accessible spec totally removes your pet. Mechanist is straight up a better pet class than ranger.
Ranger and the elite specs are very forgiving overall, though. Even if you don't play to min/max, they are still effective in open world. Even if you have the wrong pet, and the wrong traits for that longbow you're using, it still works. And after the upcoming patch at the end of this month, it'll work even better with regard to pets. I agree that mechanist is a strong pet class too, though that was nerfed quite a bit with the changes to cooldowns being tied to whether or not you're close to your mech. So that perhaps isn't quite as true a statement as it used to be.
The reason Untamed sees much less play is because it's unintuitive and inconvenient. Both of those are things that do not suit either of the specializations (core, druid and slb) that came before it. It plays like an elementalist. I don't want to play an elementalist on my ranger. Also, druid makes good use of the pet system due to lighter reliance on its auto attacks, making it more versatile than mechanist, who has to sacrifice utility slots. Also, Soulbeast doesn't remove pet. Unmerging is still a very useful function in competitive modes - sometimes even in PvE (i.e. pre-buffing, CC, aggro shift). Ranger is a chill class for new players, but for more experienced players it's an extremely versatile class that can be selfish or very utility-oriented, while excelling at efficiency.
Did I learn anything new? No! Did I get reminded why I choose Ranger as my first class and is my oldest character? Yes!
Ha! Happy to entertain!
6:48 The timing of him falling flat on his face when you say "power" is so perfect.
Ranger was my second main after thief during the early days. Never regretted it so powerful and fun
Ranger was still my first level 80. Great to play still!
You forgot to mention how broken it is to be able to revive your pet instantly as a soulbeast. Great video :D
As a new ranger, this was really helpful. Thanks
Hey happy to help!
Your class overviews for GW2 are exactly what I was looking for. It's so difficult to find class overviews for MMOs that are not build guides or leveling guides.
That was a nice overview of my main class.
Hey thanks! I do want to spend more time with the elite specializations though. Mainly soulbeast and untamed

Untamed is clunky and unintuitive. Neither of which feels like ranger (or medium armor class, for that matter).
Hey thanks! Unfortunately I remember very little of the bunny thumper from gw1. My main pain, was the Ranger necromancer. Touch rangers....

Thanks for the guide! My first character is a ranger and I have 15 hours in the game. Don't have any expansions yet
Ranger is always a solid pick! It was one of my first characters as well!

its crazy i just made one like 4 days ago and you make this video
I knew.
I played the game non stop at release and my main was a Ranger (level 80 and full exotic gear). I want to start playing again but honestly have no clue what builds are considered good, any tips would be appreciated
perfect timing i just started playing ranger lmao
I knew you would..... lol jokes
I ran to a level 40 zone as a fresh level 2 just to tame the hyena. the 3 hyenas vs 1 normal pet just make it so good for leveling.
Coming back to the game after cancer and torn between ranger and necro for an easy to play high survivability class.
Hope you're all well now, and welcome back.
@@mirquas22 much better thanks just can't decide which is the best class for those with dexterity issues :)
What specialisation for a long bow damage oritented build ?
LB is Power-oriented, you will want to use Berserker stats
I would say soulbeast or core maybe your best bet. Perhaps untamed could be good

Is there a way to dismiss pets?
Should have a skill that says stow pet above your action bar!

Working on some other projects! It's coming!
It's sad there's no build with Juvenile Eagle.
What for optimized damage?
@@CaffeinatedDad yup
Don’t know why I watched this, I’ve mained Ranger since launch lol.

Been playing ranger a lot lately, haven't really tried elite specs for it very much as I got a core build that is very solid

Thanks was looking for a specialisation that didn't change ranger gameplay much ie long bow and damage orientated
Can I ask what build you use as I'm wanting to return to the game? (Ranger main)

Agreed!
So Ranger is a melee fighter most the time... hmh
