  • In today's quick look review I have borrowed a Clear Prop Mig-23 Flogger G from the very generous Nick Brown to review for you.
In terms of square millimetres of plastic, I think this is probably the most expensive kit I've ever had in my hands - can it possibly be worth the money?

Hi Jen Just found your site and may I thank you for all your content (which I am slowly but surely working my way through!) I am an 'ill health retired' NHS paramedic, who last built models (aircraft) 50 years ago when I was 15! Retirement accompanied with limited mobility resulted in my rediscovering my teenage hobby but boy how things have changed, mainly the quality of kits, the variety is far greater then what was available to me in the 60's and 70's. plus I have learnt to (well, learning to!) airbrush! Anyway just wanted to say again thank you for all the tips and 'How to'' videos. You really are an inspiration to us 'Born again modelers!'

Hi Jen, great review as always 🙂 I agree, £47 IS a lot of money for a 72nd scale single-seat aircraft kit. That's over $50 for us Americans! The amount of decals in this scale for the ordnance borders on the absurd. However, make no mistake, it is an outstanding model. Just too bloody expensive for me!! Take care & happy modelling, Jim 😊

Great review Jen and I agree £47 for a 1/72 kit is steep. I watched Ugur Kenel build one of the variants and he seemed to have bad fit issues with the fuselage being quite complex. I've wanted to build a decent Mig-23 Flogger as it was one of the first kits I built with my grandad back in the late 70's early 80's, but this has actually put me off 😉👍🏻

Hi Jen. Clear Prop kits are bloody good (I’ve built their Skyshark, and I loved it), but just under 50 quid for a 1/72 MiG 23 is a lot of dosh. That being said their engineering and attention to detail is self evident, soooo.🤷🏻‍♂️ Anyway, thanks for a great review. Keep well. Simon🤘🏻😎

High priced 1/72 kit but lots and lots of detail and detailing pieces. I would have to be in the right frame of mind to tackle this one so it could end up in the stash forever. 😊

This kit is really good, other than the fact there was no MiG-23MLA-E ever existed :)
This kit represents MiG-23ML export option A (for Warsaw Pact and close allies). Syrian and Lybian MiG-23ML were export option B (a bit simplified, without some newer systems and weapons).
MiG-23MLA was a MiG-23MLD with Ametist radar (that's why A letter in index). MiG-23MLA has not been ever exported.
But MiG-23MLD had a bunch of prominent airframe and details differences from initial MiG-23ML: aerodynamic teeth on non-moving wing roots leading edges, SPS-141 Siren ECM suit built-in, different shaped reinforcement plates on air intakes outer sides, the latest R-35F-300 engine version, a pair of BVP-50-60 CHAFF/flare dispensers on the back, different wheels, larger ASP-17MLD HUD, built-in Reper-N radio-altimeter antennas, etc.
And of course, new weapons, including R-73RMD-1 short range AIMs. which initial MiG-23ML has never used.

Hi! Expensive indeed but a good kit of any MiG-23 in this scale was impossible to get before Clear Prop! decided to make this one.
As soon as I got it, I've made a test fit with Tamiya tape of the fuselage and I can report that while fiddly for sure, especially behind the cockpit, the parts fit quite nicely! It would have been nice to see you tackle it...
Edit: But there is no pressure, really! Thanks for the review.

Looks a lovely kit, but too expensive and too much p/e.

OK. So in American dollars, this kit with the tax is over 60 dollars. That's a bit too much for a 1/72 scale Flogger me thinks.

In the U.S. you aren’t paying 20% VAT, but SprueBrothers has that very kit for $62.49 so you weren’t far wrong.
It’s considerably cheaper direct from Ukraine, ModelsUA, which is where I got mine, has it for a bit over US$31.

I was thinking of getting this kit, but the Price and and ALL that small Photo-etch was what turned me away.

Nice review Jen. It does look lkke a nice kit. As for the price, unfortunately that seems to be the going rate for a new tooled, high quality kit now days. The Fine Molds Phantoms retail at £40 in the UK and those dont have any PE.
