  • In todays quick snipper I'm looking at the latest release of the fairly new Airfix Hawker Hunter. For so many years the only Hunter in this scale was the ancient Academy offering, but is this one really any better?

I feel this was a very fair evaluation of the kit. Airfix just needs to step up their game a bit. The canopy scuffing could have been avoided by separating the bags. As you stated, panel lines could be a little crisper but workable. I find a light rub with very fine paper takes away the pebbled finish you noted. Thanks a lot for a good review, Dane

I actually prefer belts moulded on (if done well)....with a wash, they're a lot better in my hands than a slightly "floating" etch! But good on Airfix for the choice 👍

I am perfectly happy with moulded in belts too when they're done well, which these are. And I do think that offering the choice is brilliant.

I am going to have to lend you more kits from the stash as you do most of that tedious clean up for me! 🤣
Luckily being a Fairy the aerial refitment will be no problem at all, just don't look too closely at the PRC weatherseal!!

Thank you for the snip review!
I'm glad to see that everything comes together reasonably well. 🙂
(My kit waits peacefully in the stash for the moment and I was having some worries about the fitting...
I've recently built the 1:72nd Revell Hunter and had a bit of a fight with the intakes...)

I was going to get a 1/72 scale Hunter model but this Airfix 1/48 kit has given me some reasons for a rethink.

I love these deep dive reviews Jen, very informative and enjoyable.👍🏻 Imagine a 1/48 scale diorama of pilot Alan Pollocks Tower Bridge stunt! It would be huge; plus it would have to be built in four sections just to transport the bloody thing.😂😂 I wish I had the time and skills…

I think different color pigments in the plastic may sometimes change the characteristics of the plastic.

A very good review Jen, i have one of the 1/48 airfix hawker hunter in the older soft plastics, if airfix package there kits better like there 1/24 scale kits it would be so much better, revell kits need to do the same, not to mention there boxes, its a good looking aircraft the hawker hunter, anyway thanks for another great review.🙂

Hi jen great video as always I am thinking of buying eduards mk 9 spitfire 1 48 any thoughts on that kit

    • @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft
      @JenesisDesignsandModelcraft  2 місяці тому

It's an excellent kit, and by a long way the best MkIX in 48th. In fact the only other 48th Spitfires that are as good are Eduards own Mk1 and MkV kits.

I'm understanding that current Airfix kits are superior to their older kits (I personally haven't built either), but compared to something produced by Eduard or Tamiya, I'd say it's still a tad disappointing. As for alignment of the tail cone, I'm wondering if it would benefit from attaching the tail cone halves to their respective fuselage halves prior to joining the whole lot together? Peace and love.

It would be worth checking it out as an option, for sure. I think the joint on the fuselage could get messy though

Just wondering did the Hunter not have a head up display?
    Thanks

I bought the first iteration of this kit a few years back, and was struck by the lack of detail, and finesse generally. As you say, modern price, but..... Tamiya 48th kits from 20 years ago are better all round. Its a real shame, I'd love a FRADU Hunter, I grew up in Portsmouth and they chugged around all the time, but 47 quid, noooo. Arma Sea Hurricane gets my cash.
