One of the cool things about training the back, especially upper and mid, is how it's such a concert of muscle groups working together, almost impossible to isolate, incredibly strong together or separate and an interesting puzzles I've been trying to figure out how to grow. These videos have been a great help. Thank you!
i’m a recent exercise science undergrad and this is the best i’ve ever heard an exercise as well as the anatomy and function of said exercise explained. thank you so much for your help!!
Been doing these with a small EZ bar and tried them today using the ropes for the first time. Wow what a difference. Using the rope is far superior. Thanks for the vid!
Will the serratus still be working if you retract the shoulder blades, or do you have to keep the shoulder blades protracted during the entire motion in order to work the serratus as well?
Love this exercise. I get the biggest lay pump off of these, even at a lighter weight. My back days have been very lat focused the last couple of months and the pumps just keep getting bigger. My question is is it ok to cheat a bit to pump out the last few reps through breaking at the elbow? I still feel it hitting my last, but in sure also hitting a small bit of triceps. I’ve just watched the new Christmas tree video and then was sucked into this 3 parter.
Hey Joe, know this is a old video but would you recommend scapula elevation and protraction on something like a standard Lat pull-down or a single arm Sagital pull-down?
Hey Joe, when I do this, I’m trying to pull the cable down towards the floor (making the arc as big as possible). Is that correct? Or should I focus more on the shoulder / scapula depression first? Thank you 🙏
Hello mate, Bang for your buck what’s a better exercise for your lats, single arm pull down or rope straight arm pull down? I’m also guessing that the rope straight arm pull down will also work your scapular too? Cheers..
With a pull down you are in a more supported position and load it heavier. Anecdotally I see this used as a primer for mind muscle connection before the rest of the back or a finisher
Watching from the UK 🇬🇧 I like the way you explain the exercises

My lats are on 🔥 I just did what Joe advised and Damm my lats are burning crazy crazy pump, key is to do it slow and really focus and wow amazing
To increase stability and 'lock in stone' I take it you would/could add an incline bench facing the machine! Great content as always! 💪
Yes I do this with cuffs around my wrists or elbows too
Dude the beard. Incredible. I’d do video on growing a beard
Shouldnt i open my hands, so my biceps faces the ceiling? Wouldnt my lats work more in this position?
Best content on UA-cam!
