    Just wish this was available down here in Australia. This episode reminds me of the "Race car in a Day" build of a Caterham yonks ago...and how good would a EV Caterham be!!! As classic as a mini and could be argued as even better looking. You gotta do a head to head with another high performance mini, al-la the MCM Honda B16 converted mini down here, surely there'd be one in the UK.

    This looks a fantastically well developed kit for the Mini. I know that they do not like any modifications to the shell, but couldn't the 12v battery box be deleted to allow the rear traction battery modules to be fitted under the boot floor? The original (12v battery box) panel is easily sourced from suppliers, as they often rot out, so retro fitting one if needed in the future would be easy enough. And a smaller/lighter lithium or sodium iron 12v could be placed elsewhere in the Mini boot? I'm just asking as you seem to have thought of everything and you have probably looked into the pros and cons of this?

    • @Hazell_Nutz

      Can not make any modifications at all not even a hole

    • @MrAdopado
      @MrAdopado 15 днів тому

      There are many options that might be considered as better but it's all to do with regulations and registration. If they change anything that's part of the original shell the registration routine changes and becomes complex and expensive.

    These really are genius systems. Would they fit in a mini clubman, or a Riley elf (seeing as it’s a mini with a boot). Also can you have a lower performance motor to get better range from the same batteries?

    • @Hazell_Nutz
      @Hazell_Nutz  16 днів тому +1

      Yep should fit no problem. The motor is very efficient so does not need lower performance just a new map to make it slower

    • @MrAdopado
      @MrAdopado 15 днів тому +1

      Combustion engines will usually do fewer mpg if they are larger capacity and optimised for performance if driven at the same speeds as a small efficient combustion engine. Electric motors are different. A powerful motor can also be a very efficient motor i.e. it generally uses the same energy if used at the same speeds and loads. (Of course a powerful EV motor driven at speeds and loads beyond those of a smaller less powerful will use more energy.)

      @@nickhazell327 Excuse me being a pedant, but I watched again. 1:47 to about 2:10 shows the battery box being assembled in its correct orientation. The bottom two modules are attached upside down on the underside of the structural coolant plate. Perhaps it's OK to install them upside down in this application because the battery box is not being liquid cooled? Also, the modules you are using differ from LG Chem ex Jag iPace...

    • @Hazell_Nutz

      You are correct, they are a pouch cell so can be upside down or on there longs side just not on there short end. But other vda 355 modules we have used on the past have been prismatic cells so can not be upside down or on there short end.

      It’s not always about the over all planet, it’s about the stuff our kids, friends and family are breathing in within the local area. With electric cars the localised air quality is so much better it will help people you care about live longer heather lives. Also remember electric cars are new in the grand scheme of things so as technology gets better the manufacturing process will improve and get even better for the environment.
