The guy made the video to explain a concept. All the people complaining about the simplicity of the problem are a bit dim. Why would he go through the trouble of illustrating a more complex problem, when he can illustrate a simple problem and you can use the same procedure to solve a complex problem? It is not his job to make go through unnecessarily complex problems. He explains the concept and, if you have a brain, you can apply it elsewhere.

yk this video is for the people that are new to algebra right? sure there might be people that are new to algebra but don't find these equations complicated but most will probably
To those who don't understand, which I think there's no one didn't understand this equation, because it's really simple. Anyway, in the equation in the video. 3x 5=17 in this kind of equations, you subtract the lowest number from both sides. Since, 17 doesn't have any letter next to it and also 5 we are going to subtract 5 from both sides which means 3x=12 afterwards. We gonna divide both sides by 3 to get rid of the 3x (3/3 12/3) Finally, we need 3 numbers to give us the value of 12 which is 4
This is a great website. But I think there should be a store where you can spend energy points. Vote up and post this on every video you watch if you agree
You should have represented the "quantitity of somethings" on both sides of the equation using the same shape and color. It'd have made more sense that way I believe.
Just saying..... for the first question: 3x + 5 = 17 You can put 5 on the other side and make it 3x = 12 Then put 3x in the other side so it’s 12/3 and that’s 4...
I’m in algebra 1 rn and while I know the 3x=12 problem from the start was 4 I need to get the order done. I have to show my work but it’s tempting to not just write down the answer like it was last year in 7th
If they are so easy why are you watching an educational video on them? Everybody has a different level of skills. Archimedes would probably think your knowledge of math was equatable to a worm.
Frank B well, first of all I was looking for ''more complicated equations'', so clearly I wanted to watch an educational video, and I dont disagree that everyone has different skills, but the title is misleading, so please go away
Aya Hamad It is a more complicated equation in relation to the equations displayed in previous videos. Do you think Khan Academy magically knows and titles their videos according to your math level?
Frank B well, i dont think khan academy is for 7th grade students because that time i visited his website to seek help for physics, it was all complicated stuff. plus the title should be as I stated before '' BASIC LINEAR EQUATIONS'', this what they are, so stop arguing

HELP-I'm doing this thing in school and I need to find the value of X without guess n check..if you could help me that would be great.. 4,196,352 = (4^x-1)+(2^x-1)
So... let's say you start rearranging the equation. You take 3x + 5 = 17 and start moving things around... 3x + 5 - 5 = 17 - 5 3x + 5 - 5 / 3 = 17 - 5 /3 x = 17 - 5 / 3 If you follow order of operations, you get a different answer. So are you supposed to rearrange the equation in a specific way first? Do you HAVE to subtract 5 before you start the division? How do you know when to use addition or subtraction before division or multiplication? How do you know which order to move things around to get the right answer? You can have 17 - 5 = 12 / 3 = 4. Or you can have 17 - 5 / 3 = 17 - 1.6666 = 15.33333 Damn math. There has to be a simple explanation for this stuff... I just can't find the answer or rule that will apply to these things.
I think it's part logic. I have trouble comprehending it, but my brain is hinting. So 3x+5=17 means There are 3 sets of a number that when combined with 5 they are equal to 17, Both sides are EQUAL in amount. We just don't know what it is, but the symbol does have a value. So when you think about that you have to think about how subtracting something affects how it's split into different parts, and if you divide something it doesnt. So i believe that theres a good reason for it to be more logical to simply subtract first and then divide it. If you figure it out can you please tell me? Because i don't comprehend why yet sadly, it makes me feel not smart.
