The role of the announcer in this scene is uncredited, but it is Tom Gibney, from Yorkton, Saskatchewan, who for decades was the anchorman at CFTO-TV in Toronto - which oddly enough is also where this scene was shot. Gibney died in 2021, unfortunately; he was 84.
I recently noticed that they keep the old news set and the reporter that subbed for Beale in the movie at the end. It’s as if they knew or at least had an idea that all this wouldn’t last.
Sadly, I think that this might not be too terribly far from the truth; there might actually have been stuff like this that happened. That of course none of us will ever know about. Many people in power, especially in the corporate world, are narcissists and some even fit the profile of psychopaths or sociopaths. Very little if any empathy.
I was just thinking, if they do a final ever season of Family Guy, the ending of the last ever episode would take this movie's ending and likely have the narrator saying "This was the story of the final episode of Family Guy, the first known instance of an animated sitcom that was cancelled, because it had lousy jokes." And then, like how ATHF ended in 2015, it would cut to the Griffins and the entire cast sitting around the living room watching the last episode on the TV before criticising it and ending with Stewie saying "At least we still got a few seconds left. Could just do one last joke. Or a cutaway or a short song or s--" and then cut to the logos.

Fascinating, thank you
This ending aways scared me
it should
I find it interesting that the audience does not flip out after Beale gets shot.
@veronicaa.1416Yes-note the cameramen not coming to Beale’s help and instead *zooming in* to get a better shot!

Ok
Being killed for lousy ratings is a bit rugged. "Network" was a sardonic, satirical ball-terror of a film. It's hard not to love it.
Is that Dwight Shrute walking up the steps??
IDENTITY THEFT IS NOT A JOKE BRINGBACKTHEPAST
Funnily enough, it’s a pretty common myth that Tim Robbins played that guy, but it’s not true
